Love watching you diagnose problems, not just jumping to the solution. Might not be for everyone but it’s more enjoyable imo. Thanks as always for the great vids!

But he didnt explain why the fuse was blown. Fuses dont just fail... either condenser is really dirty, fan motor is going bad, someone charged unit and there are non condensables causin refrigerant to fractionalize

Etc, the compressor going bad is not necessarily accurate,

I love it when tech think about next guy. I always make sure when i change capacitor i always leave out the 45/5 sticker so the next tech can see it more easily.

Dude! You really need to warn folks that removing the hv cover without knowing where it's okay to put your hands can lead to DEATH. Also btw, though modern DVMs are pretty rugged, measuring continuity with 245 vac running around is asking to blow up your meter. You could have safely determined which fuse was bad with the voltmeter.

Modern DVMs are super rugged, they will contain the explosion when they pop.

Although I agree with you, and always shut off the power before measuring resistance in a circuit, I have seen a guy unknowingly measure continuity across a live 480vac fuse without damaging the meter…( which he then pulled without knowing it was live, luckily with a insulated fuse puller)
@RobertSzasz
@RobertSzasz 10 ай бұрын
@@matthewbean5521 so long as the voltage difference is small the meter won't care. It's a potential problem if the fuse is blown. The voltage measuring part of meter can probably handle it, but the current source might explode.

Some electrical contractor scammed them bigtime if they said they needed a panel swap to fix a blowing breaker for a condensing unit
@MrStatic101
@MrStatic101 10 ай бұрын
Facts. Unless they had a burn out and this fuse went in the process of that. When I do a panel I like to label everything and see it work if the person is somebody that you can work with.

that filter probably plugged up that can cause a fuse to go

Do not measure continuity of a fuse with power supplied! You will blow up your meter. If you have voltage on the line side, measure on the load side, one phase at a time. you can isolate the bad fuse fast and you don't even need to touch you meter.
@Tonyplat98
@Tonyplat98 10 ай бұрын
They should always pay to have it cleaned up. It's super important or that fuse will likely blow again at some point.

Good stuff. Make a video on the voltimeter. I always need a good tutorial since i dont use it often.

I usually take those jackets off the compressor they always make the older machines go off on overload

My only comment is to turnoff the breaker before changing anything, including putting the the pullout. But it’s your choice.

I don't like fused disconnects for this exact reason. There really is no reason to have fused disconnect unless you have oversized feed to the disconnect and AC calls for smaller circuit protection. This is very rare since builders or installers will not spend extra money to install larger wire than necessary.

This is proof that our phones are listening to us. Reason being, I started work for an HVAC company recently, I’m in a class and I’m learning I’m just observing and learning right now, I haven’t looked up anything about HVAC yet, nor do I have anything on my phone about it. And then this video shows up… But I’m thankful for it

why did the fuse pop?
@123412144

Probably just old and was time. Start amps were good, nothing was grounding either. If anything just needs a good cleaning and clearing the shrubs around it.

If done correctly the circuit breaker will trip before the fuse .

Because that is what it costs for a trip charge, diagnosis and repair. You are paying for knowledge, time and service of a qualified technician, plus he probably warranties his repairs for a period of time. I would probably be closer to $400 for that repair, but I would also check a few more things that were not in the video.

It baffles me that they put in a new breaker box and still had another technician cone out and all for a fuse...what waste of money. Learn to so the basics on your own people.

omg , so many things wrong. This video is so bad/dangerous for anyone trying to learn ; it seems to be deliberate . Hoping most of it is addressed in the comments . there is one thing i prefer to do - I like to put fuses in so you can read the label . Sometimes it actually matters .
