Ideal sure trace has beat them to it ….I’m been using it for years . My favorite troubleshooting tool of all time .

Nice, im sure it's saved you a few times. The ideal is good, but if I was going to buy one now the Klien has added more accessories, and like the MODbox, they got to do it better, being 2nd to market. Actually, Klein had an older tracer not as good as this one. I wouldn't buy anything if I already had a u it that did what I needed already. Thanks for sharing.

Do you know how that wire got damaged? How deep was the conduit?

@maximusvonderbrewskis They are natorious for using direct buriel NM but no one seems to actually do it to code. It's actually easier to just drop pipe but they don't. I'm sure his was owner builder from 20 years ago. This is a new client. was only 10 inches deep as well.

@@The360Electrician thank you for your reply, code here in socal is 1 foot. As an installer I've never been a fan of any kind of direct bury cable, conduit is always better but even conduit can fail.

The Tempo PE2003 Fault Locator is what we have used for decades now. I have personally found faults in underground cables that were 28,000 feet long. It was a direction cable on a pivot system. The PE2003 will find faults within 3 inches of the grounded location. We will look at the Klein and see how it works also.

Nice what does that unit cost? 28,000 feet what the heck are you working on. This is positioned perfect for the average electrical Co tractor. I personally wouldn't be able to afford it as an individual electrician but as a contractor it's a must in each van. It will pay for itself on the first job @$239. See links below.

@@The360ElectricianThey cost right at $925 if my memory serves me right. I have found several hundred faulted ungerground wires through the decades. They work flawlessly when we have used them.
