My dear friend!!! I have almost no expertice on maintenance but let me tell you, you are a very lucky guy!!! fortunatelly for you the float pin was not enought "tip crushed" so could "slip" out WITHOUT breaking the bases! The arrow close to the left base (looking the air/fuel mixture screw upwards) indicates the direction to take OUT the pin!! Otherwise the grafics of your videos are really great and are very very educational!! good job and carry on mio amico!!! Saludos desde Mexico, Paco.

I'm going through the same kind of CV carb woes and your video was very helpful. Nice hack to put a little oil on the diaphragm to get it in place easier. As well as checking the correct float height. Very well done, thank you sir. 👍

Don't try replacing the slide diaphragm on newer models as shown here. The new version slides are glued under the plastic retainer by the factory to keep people from tampering with them. Plus you risk leaks and poor sealing or having to replace it again in the near future. A replacement vacuum slide for your Harley is far more reliable. CV Performance specializes in parts specifically for Harley CV carburetors if you have any questions.
@cvperformance1
@cvperformance1 9 жыл бұрын
Also many of the replacement diaphragms available online (ebay, amazon, etc) were originally made for other models and don't fit correctly, so beware. The factory unfortunately never made replacement diaphragms for the Harley slides.

CV Performance Hi Custom Cez, great video. Yes that is the correct vacuum slide for these carburetors you linked to. You were lucky enough to have a slide where the diaphragm pulled out but others might have a glued in diaphragm or pinched too tight to replace. Working with these carbs for over 25 years I've found it is much easier to replace the whole slide than to struggle with the rubber piece and risk failure later. In your country (all Europe) Motorcycle Storehouse distributes slides through local shops or you can order direct from CVP in the US. Motorcycle Storehouse part 901507 www.motorcyclestorehouse.nl/product/901507 or direct from CVP: www.cv-performance.com/harley-vacuum-slide/

Hey Custom Cez, I've got a Nissan a14 powered pickup which I did a bike carb conversion on(4x 34mm keihin cvk v598 from a kawasaki zxr250r) and Ive jetted them with 35 idle jets and 114 main jets, I've set the float levels to 13mm,topside membranes and springs were OK as well as guillotine barrels just cleaned everything well, basically I serviced them and jetted accordingly to suit the 1400cc engine which has ported and polished head and 284 degree camshaft. My problem is that when I played around with the jetting (only on mains, idle jets are standard items) I found that when going lower in size from 114 mains, the engine would not rev past 4500 rpm and going bigger it was very rich and I had to replace fouled spark plugs every few days, I feel that the jetting is more or less right for the engine size however it still runs rich and when it idles too long, it seems to flood the engine because it would then start to misfire and have visible fuel sitting in the cavities when viewing from front of the carbs from there it just gets worse. I think I got the jetting correct referencing from weber dcoe jetting on same engine. it has been running abit better however I'm still going through plugs and still need to replace them not so often as before. It's been a struggle but I do not want to give up until I get it to run efficiently and reliably. Please help Best Regards. Jason Alexander (South Africa)

I understand that this is an old video but keep in mind that if you could pull the diaphragm from the plastic rings, then it was not sealed. Thus simply pulling it out and replacing it makes no difference to purchasing a slider/diaphragm set. Some carburetor models have the diaphragm tightly built in the plastic rings making it impossible to pull them off, but even those can possibly be fixed with some glue and a cutter. There are even glue and diaphragm sets on ebay that go for far less than the slider set. Check on youtube for tutorials.

What about 2 cv carbs together on a vt1100. Do you work on 2 carbs attached before?Whats the T plugs that connects them both on the top ? Is it over flow? There's gas pouring out and it runs like shit. Would shims on slide needles cause this?

My comment is very late....sorry. I've just done my carb rebuild. The accelerator pump diaphragm was indeed replaced upside down in the video. I hope it worked! Also, the O ring on the accelerator pump jet can't have been there in the first place as it doesn't need one. Having said all that, I love your presentation and am a happy subscriber!

The way to properly test the actuation of the CV diaphragm is to hold the carburetor up with the inlet throat facing you and with a blowgun, connected to an air hose, blow air into the carb throat and diaphragm inlet port as you wave the blowgun back and forth past the face of the carburetor. You will see the slide gradually rise and fall as the increase in pressure rises and falls. DO NOT blow directly into the diaphragm inlet port as you burst the diaphragm with excessive pressure! By the way... I am a Harley Davidson Technician by trade and do it for a living so I know exactly what I'm talking about.

Hahaha You wasted a lot of time cutting a piece of wood and using a caliper to measure the float height! Hold the carb up at an angle, the degree doesn't matter as long as the float is resting on the float needle, without compressing the needle spring, and set the float level with the bowl flange. Simple. People ALWAYS over complicate things unnecessarily.
