Part 3 of the BMW e30 m50 turbo build. In this part we will show how to make turbo manifold from scratch without using expensive special tools. The flanges we used for turbo and cylinder head are 10 mm thick laser cut steel.

Awesome that you guys did this yourself. Personally I plan to just buy a manifold that has been proven to fit m50 swapped e30s. they sell for about $650 online. That's what I plan to do at least :) Still awesome to say you did it all yourself.

+Jackson Allen Thanks! I would assume that you will get quite nice manifold for that price. The cheap Chinese stainless steel ones are are completely shit for this purpose. The craftsmanship is ok in those, but the thin 304 stainless is completely wrong material for turbo manifold and those will crack because of that.

Hi Pazi. Very good videos. Can I ask what pipe size you choose? 42mm is outside or inside diameter? And how thick pipe 2mm or 3mm? And you use short radius elbows or long, or both?

+Vladimír Motýľ It's outside diameter and I'm don't remember the thickness exactly. It's 2,5 mm or 3 mm. And those are short radius.

Plasma cutter is less accurate. It's more suitable for rough cuts for more thicker steel.

+Sleeper It think you should get quite good idea what you will need when you watch this series. In part 5 and 6 we will bolt on the last parts needed for turbocharging.

Sleeper Not sure about exhaust yet. Will probably be straight pipe with one cheap ass Chinese silencer. And no stock ECU. We will use PnP megasquirt from K-data called KDFI: www.k-data.org/kdfi-pnp-bmw-m50.html It's cheap, it works, it's plug and play and has integrated wideband controller. But it's not the greatest quality and the documentation is shitty.

For the m52b28 it has single Vanos. Do you know a way I can hook up an oil supply line without interfereing with the vanos

Those are 42mm tubing from professional plumbing supply warehouse. Not normally even sold to inviduals, because those are weldable industrial stuff.

How do you weld the pipe in the super hard to get to spots?

David Page You have to weld everything in right order to get those done. For example many runs are welded together before even tagging them to the rest of the manifold. This of course requires some planning ahead.

i would choose a supercharger just to avoid this. looks difficult.

With supercharger you will have all kinds of problems for example belt slipping. So it's not so easy after all. But of course you can buy ready made turbo manifold.

You can get those from lot of sellers. There is lot of options at eBay only. But of course you get what you pay. You can get Chinese made shiny rst manifolds with 200 USD. But you may need to pay 500 to 1000 USD if you want proper one.
