This is by far my favorite live action film so far, with Little Mermaid coming in a close second. I wish Little Mermaid had used the same screenplay writer from Cinderella. Also, Julie Andrews would have perfect as the Fairy Godmother and now I'm sad we didn't get that 😂

Julie Andrews as the Fairy Godmother would have been a full circle moment as well given that she played Cinderella in the R&H TV musical back in the 50s.

@@TheStOne1 Again, it's a good thing the film isn't a musical, and they put the songs in the credits. They would have been a complete waste of screen time. It's like instead of the chores being done in a montage, the movie decides to stall by showing us useless details about any of them.

Oh my goodness, casting Julie Andrews as Fairy Godmother would be PERFECT, you are so right! And I agree about keeping her old dress color and an up-do hair. I didn't care to watch this movie, I think because of those reasons, something just felt TOO different (I was also 11). Cinderella is arguably Disney's most iconic movie/character, there are A LOT of Cinderella adaptations, they definitely needed to keep this on more true to the original so we know that this is DISNEY'S live action Cinderella. And we all love Julie Andrews, she's SO Fairy Godmother

I agree on EVERYTHING you said, and I'd add that I wanted The magic song, Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo in the film so bad... It's the most famous song from the movie, and the Fairy Godmother still uses the words to do her magic in this live action. It's a very short song and they could've shortened it even more if needed, and it would have worked perfectly in the scene. Helena's version in the end credits proves it would've sound very well too.

I’m really fine with Cinderella not fighting to save herself. There’s something to be said for the hero who understands when the story is over. It’s not a story about what she DOES, but rather about who she IS. There is a little homage to “Sing Sweet Nightingale” in the scene where she gathers eggs, but I think you’re right that it would’ve been better if they at least referenced more of the songs in there. I would have loved for her mother to have sung “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes” with a reprise of the tune when she dances with the prince. It also could have been nice to hear a version of her working song that the mice sing in the original (but not sung by the mice). I would have raised a number of the necklines and made Cinderella’s eyebrows blonde-those things are too distracting. The other changes, I would like.

I did like you ideas. But I think there should be a better idea.- that Cinderella's father (who isn't Lord Treamine in 2015 version, but is apperently in the 1950 version)- marries Lady Treamine when Cinderella is a young girl, and then he dies and a pre-teen Cinderella is "humliated, abused and forced to become a servant in her own home" and that Cinderella could turn into Lilly James in "present" time. Because to me a Major problem I have is she breaks down too easily in the movie-both with the name change (Ella->Cinderella) and also when LT rips her dress.
@americandefender1861

@0deadx21
@0deadx21 7 ай бұрын
Once Upon a Time can do what it wants. How Lady Tremaine is portrayed in live-action depends on what they're going for, not how she looks in animation, which was not made with concerns about how it looks like in live-action. What possible reason could there be to have Lady Tremaine with gray hair and burgundy clothing outside of a cartoon character also has it. You're not making the animated movie that used cartoon logic and visuals, you're making a live-action film, so use live-action logic and visuals instead.

TOTALLY READ MY MIND!!!! I absolutely agree with all of this. Another change I'd make to the ending is how she sings. What if instead of quietly singing to herself, she loudly and deliberately sings to the Prince to get his attention? With Lady Tremaine ordering her to stop singing, and in response Cinderella defiantly keeps on singing and looks Lady Tremaine straight in the eyes? Cinderella singing as an act of rebellion, instead of just passing the time, would also help emphasize the movie's "Have Courage and Be Kind" motto.

While I do agree with some of the changes, I feel like others (ie costuming) would make the adaptation too literal and take away from the remake having some originality. Plus I believe Cinderella wanted to stay at the mansion because it was the last place she recalled being loved, and when she married, she didn't need the now toxic environment anymore.
@AnnaliseRobinson
@AnnaliseRobinson 4 ай бұрын
yessss. also she was not being 'passive' I don't think- she was being so good and kind she was willing to not rebel. she was actually respecting the authority of her stepmother which is NOT being passive, it's being obedient. also the whole moral of the story is being kind and good pays off and brings you happiness, and that you should love your enemies. so I think he got that wrong but pretty much everything else was spot on (I cant lie though I still love the blue dress :)

The animated movie is pretty much irrelevant when it comes to this live-action Cinderella film. Every single visual choice for this film is fantastic. A visual marvel with beautiful locations and stunning outfits. So fucking what that the animated Lady Tremaine had gray hair and wore burgundy; how is that in anyway important or relevant for what the live-action movie had in mind for the stepmother's portrayal? The director and filmmakers were rightfully prioritizing the live-action medium and what works best for each character, which is completely different for what works for a cartoon made in the 1940s. Stuff like putting live-action Cinderella in a bun or have her wear jewelry and gloves for the ball, completely misses the point of her character, and also makes her look tacky. How exactly is a bun more beautiful or elegant than a wavy, loose hairstyle, sections of which wore woven to look like a tiara? They intentionally avoided portraying the stepmother as ugly, aging, or overweight, to avoid depicting dumb stuff like an undesirable-looking woman being jealous of a younger, desirable one. In the animated movie, everyone is more of a tool, architype and stereotype rather than a person. What we know about them is surface level and any personality trait seems to be made up on the spot just to get the character say or do something specific. The animated Cinderella was on the very verge of crying just from the beads been yanked from her neck. How is that consistent with how she acted before? You'd think anger or shock will the first emotion she shows. Almost every single animated and live-action Cinderella is just some random, generic, nice girl who just happens to be nicknamed Cinderella, but Lily James's portrayal of the fairy tale character herself, her very essence, what she stands for and what she's about, was perfectly executed. It's like the fairy tale character came to life.

As far as Cinderella 2015 goes, I need to rewatch it. I remember thinking it was okay but not liking it that much but that's actually been better than my opinion of other live action Disney remakes. To me, Jungle Book has been the best, Lion King 2019 was a C- to me and Aladdin 2019 was the biggest letdown (although I thought Will Smith did fine as Genie, Robin Williams is one of the toughest acts to follow).

I agree with most these changes. Cinderella has always been my favorite Disney Princess and I hate all the attacks she gets. I would have loved the original silvery dress, Julie Andrews would have been an amazing fairy godmother . I don't excactly agree with Lady Tremaines hair being Grey, but they could have showed or hinted at the fact that she dyed it. Like others have pointed out I think it would have made more sense for Cinderellas father to remarry when she was little and to show her slowly being broken. I definetly agree with you about the songs, but at least they did put 'a dream is a wish' and 'Bibbidi bobbidi boo' in the soundtrack. I believe they played in the credits. I'm glad they didn't make the mice talk. As much as I liked them in the original, I think it would have taken away from the live action. Overall I'm very happy with this version of the movie, as a live action remake of the 1950 version, while still being original.

In fairness, certain of your critiques about the visuals are warranted, but when it comes to the story, it’s baffling (but unsurprising) that your primary critique about a movie which works BECAUSE of its more classical and traditional approach to storytelling, the value of self sacrifice and forgiveness, gender roles, etc., is that it should be more progressive.

Who complains that Cinderella is passive and points out that she could leave her abusive home obviously doesn't know anything about history and the social circumstances of the time and place the story is set in. A girl from that period cannot take up a job or study, nor can she run away; and having neither money nor learned a trade, even after running away all that she could do would be prostituting herself. She could take up some menial work of course, but not being under the protection of a family would make her fair game in the eyes of most men. Losing her father is not only a personal loss for Cinderella, it deprives her of any kind of safety. Her stepmother know that, which is why she has full command over her and delights in teasing and tormenting her.

Although I agree I have to say that her attempting to run away but then going back after she met the prince felt kind off... weird? Like either go for it completely or don´t make her attempt to run away in the first place. Also experiencing abuse for years and since you´re a kid is kind off different and worse (and more justifiyable for not running away) than experiencing for "only" like a year and when you´re an adult. I love that they showed us HOW Cinderella got slowly more and more abused, but they should´ve started it when she still was a child

This is my least favorite live action because I’m disheartened by the lack of reverence the cast and filmmaker had for the original 😞 they spoke poorly of the 1950 princess in all the press and you can tell they misunderstood the assignment. The animated character has so much spirit and resilience and strength and so many human qualities like frustration and sometimes even grumpiness that never make it into Lily’s comparatively bland performance. Lady Tremaine is so cold and calculating and intriguing in the animated film and of such a dualistic nature that’s intrinsic that you never know what you’re going to get. Cate, in comparison, is much more broad- laughing wildly like a hyena in her cheetah print robe in the kitchen. Making kissy faces with in the invitation seem to be comedic. Aggressively smashing the glass slipper instead of doing it in an indirect way, and ripping Cinderellas pink gown herself instead of instigating something between the sisters. They really missed the mark here imo and I think if they just displayed some love and kindness for the original it would’ve done them a world of good.

I agree, I think the same fate will go for the Snow White live action judging by the way they talked about it. I also found this problem in The Little Mermaid when they had Ariel steer the ship into Ursula instead of Eric, that moment was supposed to show Triton that humans are good, but they temporarily killed him off and turned it into a lil girl power moment for Ariel, and it just wasn't written well, misunderstanding why the original did what they did.
