This is just good damn knowledge to learn no matter who we are. I spent two hours today tracking down a bad resistor from a small solar panel controller board. Honestly I was so impressed with how much technology PCB's made the world from even 50 years ago.

Great video. Question, I'm replacing my ebike motor pcb board. The replacement has 7 holes/copper rings for wiring. Bu my original has 6 - 5V, GND, SP, H1, H2, and H3. The replacement has an additional ring for wiring labeled "K". What does K stand for in this case? Keyswitch, ohms, resistance? Can't find any information or diagrams online. And if I solder/connect the "regular" wires, will I have a problem if I leave "K" unsoldered? No info online + could use the help. /bklyn 👑

So, I’m a mechanical engineer. When I was in school we did plenty of circuitboard stuff. The thing that still really confuses me, is the boards inside buttons. I have four wires going into a multi function button. It’s got six functionalities. I’ve got a ground and a signal for the back lighting on the buttons, and then only two wires for all six functions.

Not ohms, the meter is set to diode check. You're actually seeing the voltage drop across an item. It still pretty much works the same to trace signals. If you forward bias a diode, it'll show approx. .5 volts.
@Joeelectronicschematicsforauto
@Joeelectronicschematicsforauto 8 ай бұрын
The diode function of the meter will measure followed by us and reverse bias so info advised you should have around points 6.7 hold and reverse by should be open or o l but keep in mind if there are other components across that diodewhile you are measuring it you will get in a inaccurate measurement
@Joeelectronicschematicsforauto
@Joeelectronicschematicsforauto 8 ай бұрын
Try to take the diodeout of the circuit to measure it more accurately and I assume we're talkin about a silicone diode not a germanium or LED that's why when you measure the diodes in the alternator it's not always accurate

Don't worry too much. If it got destroyed by overvoltage, repairing it will at least be a major challenge. Not everything will be right out destroyed. Could also be a chain reaction and one bad part destroys several others. Even worse if it's a part running some kind of program, as they can't be recovered or bought like that.

they will not pay a man to sit at a bench and repair these because asians make them for pennies and there has always been a steady supply. it is a lost art. many will actually deem a pcm, module, or circuitboard as being faulty partly because they assume and fire a parts cannon at a problem, another being a lack of a department equipped to send it to and have it tested. i am an electrician and trained in all this stuff but did not specialize in it or do it everyday. in the navy we had a guy specifically for this sortof thing and he was very valuable and so amazing. he could find an open resistor somewhere in a huge maze of a mess of a circuitboard and repair it in a heartbeat. maybe we dont need so many gosh darn electronics in vehicles. maybe older vehicles restomoded (obviously a hei distributor is better than points, and do we really need a pcm? my 69 ford used to get the same gas mileage as trucks today) are the way to go and encourage people to ride bicycles, motorcycles, and scooters more often to save on gas instead of having all this circuitry to regulate emissions and try to squeeze mpg etc, or all these stupid body control modules and can bus systems. fordtechmakulko just did a repair for a taillight for $4500 and uncletonysgarage also made a video about how silly its becoming. is it so hard to turn a dial to choose the temperature of the heater or a/c? they used to just have a cable, then they went to vacuum, now its ran by a Fing computer

But I don't want to go too deep into it because the average person watching is not going to go and buy instruments and troubleshoot a put the circuit board that's complex like this

I totally think replacing capacitors is worth it. They are easy to visually see if they have gone bad.

Sometimes yes sometimes no I've have capacitors that look fine but when you do a leakage test on them without working voltage they failed yet they looked fine

oh that highly touted JIT manufacturing from a decade or two ago....JIT chickens coming home to roost.

@@Joeelectronicschematicsforauto JIT...the Just In Time manufacturing craze a few years ago, and still in use today, where hardly any inventory stocks were kept on hand, and disparate parts or material required to manufacture a product would arrive ...just as needed...of course if the supply chain breaks down, as we see today, chaos and productions stalls ensue. Understand now ?

@@pvanb2 it depends on the order is that they have in a manufacturing company if they make o protocol it designed the first one then the then you have to order parts based on how many numbers the customer ordered and also the parts needed of course if the customer cancelled it then you're stuck with all the parts and all the employees are you just hired to get the order out so there's pros and cons why they have to do it that way

@@Joeelectronicschematicsforauto it really depends on the nature of the business...if you are manufacturing smaller job lots to a customer's spec, that you bid on, JIT would be disastrous if you imitated a supply chain to fill that order. Any disruption, like weather, strikes, supplier not fulfilling your needs, and many other variables, would leave you with an idle workforce, and perhaps penalties for late order fulfillment. if the customer reneges, after you have signed Purchase Orders, court action will fulfill the money owed, (and then some ) from the recalcitrant customer. (Been there) Much better to lock down your supplies and materials needed with a discount for volume and early payment. Thus no disruption in fulfilling the requirement. if you are savvy, and have a good relationship with your suppliers, perhaps they will only batch lot ship rather then all the order at once....but care again is needed to not be short. Now with a manufactured item being continually marketed, with a large volume, then some JIT supply chain is warranted, but still carry enough inventory to meet any disruption in supply....which today seems to be the norm. But previously the JIT theory and practice was carried to extremes.

@@pvanb2 I agree with you it's ready it's better to have all the parts ready but sometimes that's hard as you try parts don't come on time or not available that leaves the customer mad manufacturing is not an easy industry it relies on orders and if you don't get the orders what do you do with all your employees and all the parts that's why Chevrolet use a gold got rid of the Caprice it was just too good of a car people will not buy a new cars they needn't manufacturing new car so they can make their for the quarter
