Excuse me, but what do people exactly expect from an artist of THIS scale? To conform? To be normal? To be regular? To fit in? Also, what exactly are abnormalities? As far as I’m concerned, no artistic person is ever mentally perfectly stable. I’ve never seen a worthy art being born from “happiness”. Sensitivity, mood swings, depression, psychosis, quirks, addictions is an integral part of any creative mind, only altered states can alter the reality and serve it from another perspective. Everyone in the comment section is so shocked to find out that he had mental health issues, but hello, with mental issues always come the greatest gifts. I don’t understand the narrator’s point at all when he offers to choose between “crazy” and genius at all. I’ve seen almost all his works from the very first sketches to the theater installations and jewelry pieces - he was EXTREMELY productive, he created the most enormous pieces that ever existed on Earth, you don’t create thing like that being “normal”, he opened doors to the inner, deepest parts of our collective subconscious and brought it all out. I never cried more standing in front of a painting like I cried in front of one of his unfinished works. With a great talent always comes a great sacrifice but in Dali’s case he didn’t really agree to be a victim, and that’s why he’s persona considered so controversial.

the person who understood surrealism so good he became surrealism, lived surrealism and if you really think about it he portrayed it really well... that is why he said I am surrealism... he defines the term as himself, his enigma, his bizzare behavior all shines the term.. clever enough to fool the world and even himself.

The best artist ever .His work inspired mine ...breathtaking work...I feel like I understand the passion, pain , emotions and anger hidden within ...what do we really know about life and what is possible or not. What for some is clearly a mental illness could be in fact ability to connect with some forces we are not able to comprehend yet ...be alive is an opportunity and this man definitely lived his life as best he could ...his work says it all ...love him and his work ...

He was not at all isolated. He was very social. And you are learning everything about him through a language he never really spoke. English. Listen to interview in French or Spanish or Catalan. He wasn't mad. And you don't know his actions or thoughts. Because you only heard him try to explain it in a language he struggled with. He was perhaps the first performance artist. He told people what was going on in his head. Be honest you have all at one point believed you where the incarnation of someone .....then your flow of thought moved on ...only you didnt tell anyone. He LET PEOPLE IN to his stream of consciousness. No he was not mad. He was living art.

All the behaviors of Dali are play acting, imaginative poses, creative expressions, and his need to be outrageous. Sure, he had phobias, but we all have phobias to one degree or another. Did he ever harm anyone though? I know he was manipulative and became a money/fame chaser in his life. So have a gazillion others. I'm much more fascinated by his art and enjoying the mad excesses of his surrealist persona than seeking to pick it apart for a diagnosis of his mental state. Dali is infinitely larger than all the clinical conclusions anyone can make about him. His art and his glorious lunacy will last long after we're all gone. Dali was not crazy. He was most likely an ENFP personality. This personality types first cognitive function is extroverted intuition. Extroverted intuition is a creative cognitive function. It's all about divergent thinking. It makes connections between ideas and things that don't seem to go together. Extroverted intuition can give you a wild imagination. It also allows you to fully embrace concepts and ideas that can be considered "wild" and "out there". Extroverted intuition loves creative insanity.

Wow, this was excellent. I visited the Dali Museum in Tampa twice, he was truly an enigmatic profoundly gifted man. The names of his paintings alone had me in awe, I suppose there's no other way to respond to atmospheric skulls and anthropomorphic echos. I must've looked at The Profanation of the Host for more than 30 minutes, I loved how Catholicism influenced his works.

Makes a lot of sense when you watch Silence Of The Lambs. Buffalo Bill had the same problems as Dali or for the most part obsessed with his art or lively hood.
