This was awesome. Way more detailed and systematic than other unity tutorials I have seen. I think the summary is a decent idea if its kept short. You should do one on switch, airs and grabs, fakie, spinning. I broke my collarbone 25, January so this is all good to watch so while I'm rehabbing and especially while I'm relearning its good to have more reasons to focus on technique.

Hey Brandon, Thanks for another good tutorial. Could do a tutorial on how to approach learning topside grinds, maybe for a top acid? I've found it quite difficult getting used to locking the topside foot, especially getting it flat enough to lock/slide on ledge. I've heard of people using x-grinds and beginning by stepping onto their topside foot as part of their progression to learn topsides. Do you have a similar teaching approach? Thanks.

Topsides are a very hard one to teach without being there with you, like the royal. but I can do my best! Ill try make one for next week! I wouldn't recommend learning x grind first. I find that much harder! Unless you're really good at switch makios. The biggest tip I can give for topsides is make sure you're grinding on your frame. Pushing down on the frame, not sideways on the soul. Otherwise I'll go more in depth in a video :)

Don’t know if it will help you but one trick that works for me is to do a regular grind/stall and then right after do it topside. I have no idea why but last year I was missing topside so much one day. I try regular stall and then lock in topside immediately.

@@BrandonDrummond Looking forward to a video. I've found it difficult to get into and hold the 'pushing on frame' position, especially on ledge. My previous topside attempts have been more of a 'darkside' position rather than 'pushing on the frame'. It would be great to hear your thoughts regarding a progression to learning topsides and tips for getting on the frame on ledge. Thanks!
@kevindavenport258
@kevindavenport258 5 жыл бұрын
@@rideblades007 You mean doing a frontside stall, correct? I've heard the tip from others that a helpful first step is to simply jump over (rail) or onto (ledge) what you are grinding. I think this gets you to commit rather than jumping on tentatively or one foot at a time. Seems to me that the frontside stall may be helpful for the same reason.

I really dont get the names of the unity because if i look at your unity your left foot is behind when i do it. My left foot is infront of the other ?

I think the type of frames you have make a big difference too. GC featherlights are perfect for them. Cheers for the feedback man! I found the summary was to repetitive I don't think I'll keep it in. That's a ton of ideas! Cheers. I hope you can get back on your skates ASAP! Thanks again.

Hey man whats the difference between the unity and savannha Or is it the same? And dude I cannot do the unity on a rail it's super scary for me lol I'll try it tho
@BrandonDrummond
@BrandonDrummond 5 жыл бұрын
This one is very controversial hahaha. In my opinion, A savanah is and alley oop Unity or a true spin unity. So a savanah is a type of unity. Similar to how a kindgrind is a type of sweat stance. Does that make sense?? I could definitely do a Nugen tutorial too! Cheers man. Hope your knees feeling better!

That part with getting your legs uncrossed can be quiet important i tell you. I ripped my inner miniscus apart by landing feets still crossed and turning my upper body. Not fun at all cuz this will affect your every day live and can not be repaired. I know more than one guy who blew his ACL in a similar way. So folks be aware of that. Nice video anyways Brandon.

How's the tear? I partially tore my MCL as well. I landed weird on an acid grind (my most recent aggressive video has the POP on video in the first clip). It's actually a clip of me RE popping it. First time was off camera, landing a 360 into a heel-pivot thing... Saw fuckin' stars man. Did as much therapy at home as I could, then shaved my inner leg and started using muscle tape. Really helps you mentally keep that part strong whilst skating. Also, I cannot stress enough how important it is to massage, and roll out that injury spot. Bought a cheap ass foam roller from Walmart. With any tear comes rebuild from the repair. Makes scar tissue form in a nasty looking way if you don't smooth it out - literally! Causing more pain in the long run. Hope you're doing better now
@KennyJ540
@KennyJ540 5 жыл бұрын
Ok. Maybe I'm weird and my brain doesnt like it....but my dominant soul is my left foot, so with the pornstar method, it's really weird for a frontside because my backside unity is also approached from my left side. Would my backside unity be switch from the left? Because I'd basically die if I approached a bs unity from my rightside unless I 270 to it..then that makes it a Savanah. 🤷‍♂️

I'll try explain. So originally a savannah was a 270 backside unity. But these days a front savanah is an alley oop front unity and a back savannah is a true spin back unity. So a savannah is a type of unity. Kind of like how a kindgrind is a type of sweat stance. Does that make sense?
