I find it odd though, we're always taught non-pressurized hot water should be stored at 55-60 and pressurized should be 60-65 so does that mean you can't use this on pressurized as it doesn't consistently keep the tank hot enough?

Very interesting product. I'm currently considering switching over to Octopus Electric agile tariff, where price per kWh varies every 30 minutes. A facility to integrate a smart immersion into such a scheme would be amazing. Set rules such as heat to 55c when cost < 10p, heat to 65C or above when cost is < 5p etc. Was already wondering how to implement such a scheme...

Have had nothing but issues with this product. Have fitted 5, had issues with all 5. Four tripped the thermostatic overheat cut out. Needing to be reset constantly. The fifth just wouldn’t send power to the heating element. May just get me being unlucky as anything. May be condition of install? Have asked Tesla for advice and haven’t got much feedback. They sent out one replacement stat but that tripped the thermostatic cut out. Currently in the hole for two smart thermostats. Swapped out the others for wifi fuse spurs. It’s disappointing as it looks like a great product. The app seems great. Being able to see the water temp is amazing. Just can’t keep getting called back to jobs. Hopfully it is just me.

That looks AWESOME. Great video James. I have a lot of Smart home products, including Tado on my heating (but not hot water at present). Gutted that I don’t think this TSmart will work out for me. I have solar panels and my immersion is switched through a Solar iBoost so that any surplus solar electricity I’m not using is channeled into the immersion. It’s great, and gives me loads of free hot water. But when it’s dark, or I’m using all my available solar energy on other appliances, the electric current to my immersion is dead. Then there might be 100 or 200w going to it when there’s a little bit of spare, and then the full 3kw or whatever the max is when it’s blazing sunshine. Can’t see that being good for TSmart. Otherwise I’d be buying right now. Unless there’s some sort of solar panel setting you didn’t tell us about James?? EDIT: Was thinking the current feed goes out of the fused spur into the iboost, then out of that into immersion. Was thinking double up and take a second line out of the fused spur straight into the TSmart. But probably answered my own question- the iboost and TSmart won’t talk to each other. Damn. Software fix Tesla?
@Richdev1981
@Richdev1981 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, T-Smart isn't a perfect solution connected to iboost as you will need contmstant power to the unit and if the tank is calling for heat T-Smart will take over and mean PV is not used. What you can do though is use T-Smart as a boost immersion in the top of the tank if you have a second immersion fitted. That way you can use the timer function and set the T-Smart to boost out of daylight hours as needed. You will also get the protection of anti legionella so if the iboost only gets the tank to say 50 degC it will run the anti legionella feature. Hope this helps, if you need any more info please email in on info@teslauk.com and I can call you if you like. Thanks Richard

Thanks for the replies. Was already wondering if there was a way to run secondary power to it and to use it as a temperature monitor. Only got one immersion. I have the thermostat connected to the boiler set at about 58 degrees (but it’s trial and error using a probe under the tap) and the timer for it to come on from 7pm to 9pm. The immersion/iboost on about 75. That way if it’s sunny, the water will be hotter than the boiler thermostat by the time the timer kicks in IE boiler never kicks in for water after a sunny day. The iboost has a ‘boost’ button to call for heat when needed. So works great. But if I could get secondary power to the TSmart, it would be useful for monitoring temp and setting more accurately, and for legionella in the winter. Does it sound do-able?

@@Richdev1981 Not sure that you would get the legionella protection from the top of the tank (only) heating to 60deg in this configuration, as the water in the lower part of the tank would be well below that. After all, the thermostat detector can only read the water temp local to the element in this design. Your thoughts?

Hi Mario, You are right here, on vertical mounted anyway and we promote this on the box and instructions to hopefully stop any problematic installations. We are presented with two issues which we are developing a solution to overcome. T-Smart is the most accurate thermostat on the market with +/- 2 DegC which is amazing for energy efficiency however in vertical mount this presents a secondary issue where you get a chimney effect and this accuracy becomes our enemy. We will overcome this so please keep an eye on our social media platforms as we will make an a announcement when this happens. Thanks for the feedback Richard.

Hi Fionnan I believe you are referring to what we call out Twin Heat which has two elements in one? If this is the case you can change over to a T-Smart and use a single supply in 3 core, the T-Smart can then be programmed in timer mode to operate as normal but has the boost function for when needed. The only thing to consider is that currently T-Smart is a horizontal mount only, we have prototypes under way for the Vertical mount which we hope to have available very soon. If it is a Vertical mounted you need please feel free to send your contact details to info@teslauk.com and we will let you know when this is released. Hope this helps Richard

Nice idea and not too expensive save for one issue it has. The majority of UK Immersions are fitted in at the top of a HWT and as such hang down vertically (or at a slight angle). This T-Smart is only any use with Horizontally [side fitment into the tank] mounted immersions so TBH of little use to the vast majority of us here in the UK! Short of splashing out a fat wedge of wonga on a whole new tank/install etc ... seems a bit of a lame duck to me! ☹️ 👎

Hi Legion OfMany We have just received the first production samples of the Horizontal Mount T-Smarts, its biggest downfall has been its biggest strength. The T-Smart is too accurate in the current form for Vertical Mount (due to the chimney effect caused in the immersion boss) however we have worked to overcome this and our field trials will begin in the next few days. The good news is we will know very quickly if this works or not as nuisance trip outs occur very soon after install. Please feel free to send your contact details to sales@teslauk.com and once we have finished testing we will advise the product is available for Vertical Mount. Thanks for your feedback and positive thoughts towards the product. Richard

Hi Derek Great opportunity for T-Smart here. As you say replace the main heater with the T-Smart unit and control this via the app. We are waiting for the latest app release which includes a boost function so this can be done from the app too. @@derekwallace5685 if you use the top to boost on a regular basis then yes this would be a perfect solution, you can connect both units to one app and name them top and bottom, main or boost etc and then use as you please. Hi James . Well done on your presentation video. May I put a couple of queries your way. Tank with 2 electric elements.... top element is the really long type. The short element goes in approx same position as your demo. What temperature settings for the thermostats ??? As the lower stat set at 60 would mean the top of tank would be a LOT hotter than that. I have seen tesla are making "WILLIS" heaters. Could a Willis heater go under the kitchen sink and be fed from the mains ? Would you fancy doing a video about "WILLIE'S " The price was about £40 for one ,I believe. Love to hear your thoughts. Regards Don.
@Richdev1981
@Richdev1981 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Don I can answer one of these questions for you. You're right as heat rises the top element will be in hotter water than the bottom unit. This is a common nuisance in top mounted immersions due to the chimney effect and one we are developing a solution for with T-Smart. T-Smart can be fitted vertically so for your install the lower immersion and the control temperature between 15 and 70 degC, you can manually adjust this via the app if you are getting trip outs on the top mounted immersion, however T-Smart would become the main control so the top immersion may very well become rededundant and the high limit not an issue? If you want to talk more please email in your contact details to info@teslauk.com and I can call you and discuss this further. Thanks Richard
