Once again John you’ve concisely explained to us how to take care of our machines! It’s obvious this is a labor of love on your part and we thank you!

Well I guess it's about time I get this done even though it probably won't have any effect on my style of coffee. I purchased that additional warranty so this kit is free for me. I'm long over that experimenting phase and have settled on a blend that I've enjoyed for a couple of years. I always us the lever profile and make a huge cuppa that lasts me a few hours. Most of my coffee is consumed cold. Actually, I thought this was supposed to be a lot more problematic with alignment but it looks pretty straightforward and I like the change to torx screws in that lovely kit.

Hello John, why go to such lengths only to still include the top group head piece as brass and not something like stainless steel?
@johnmcgill1288

John, can you provide the details for the exact size torque screws included? I would like to replace just the screws alone and seeing if I may be able to find them at the local hardware store.

Is it possible to make these parts in white so it shows all dirt and grime present on it? With black, it seems like it's hard to tell if it needs cleaning or not

Not likely, as we are trying to move away materials that act like a heat sink and subsequently leading to temp. lag.

One year of using DE1XL, I started to have white powder (smears off like a chalk) after each forward flush mode. Upon replacing the group head parts, I noticed there were a lot of build up on the brass. I wonder if these are zinc, and if these would go away with the group head parts replacement? Thanks Decent team!
@decentespresso
@decentespresso Жыл бұрын
Hifgly likely this is just oxidation of the brass, which is normal and is not harmful.

I wonder if by adding that new group head o-ring how long that will last and if that will be a yearly replacement part and how we know is not leaking thru the side, Asking as possible new customer buying the machine.

It doesn't get any motion and very little pressure, so we don't think it'll wear quickly at all. At any rate, it's easily replaced if it ever did wear out.

@@decentespresso well I made the purchase and I can't wait to interact with the machine, the most that caught my attention is the company mentality of supporting previous models. I hope that continues like that and if big changes are made at least having the option to purchase the upgrades that we continue enjoying the machine thanks Decent for making this awesome machine

Any tricks for removing the group hard parts and replacing with a countersunk, plumbed in machine that is right side up and not upside down? I like to do this each week, but it is more time consuming to disconnect the plumbing, remove the machine from the countersink tray and flip it. I can clean the current group head parts with the machine still upright, but it is definitely harder to get things aligned and back in place.
@decentespresso
@decentespresso Жыл бұрын
If you have enough room you can lift out your DE1 from the countersink to get a better angle when swapping out the parts. Leaving the tubes in place if you have enough length on them. removing them will be easier though as the legbase can get in the way. Worth it to give your intake filter and tank a clean while you are at it too. 😉

@@decentespresso Yes, that's why I don't remove the machine much at all. I even travel with it in the countersink when it is in my cargo trailer. Since I use this commercially at farmers markets, everything must be fast, because every minute adds up to increased prep and clean-up time. I really need to mount my e65s to the Bror top as well, because just setting that up and tearing it down costs too much time for a 4 hour market. My background in workflow analysis and usability/user interface design helps here.

I just did this replacement upside down on my machine cause I didn’t feel like flipping it. No problem for the most part. Just make sure everything is properly seated like John mentions

I love using the Philips head. Why did the switch to Torx happen?
@MrHubadub

Is the expectation that the o-ring will perish over time? Should the o-ring also be cleaned with a solution like Cafiza?
@decentespresso
@decentespresso Жыл бұрын
I think all o-rings will eventually perish, but we don't know, at the moment, how long it'll take for this one. It's not under much stress.

You should only use cafiza on the metal parts only, like the portafilter head. Just warm water and a sponge should do it for the new group head parts.
