How to UPGRADE your laptop screen!!

I got the Lenovo V14 G2 late last year and it had... a disappointing screen. So, I took charge of things and decided to upgrade it to a beautiful screen.
These steps should work for most laptops, but not all. Cetain laptops won't have any details in the database, so you'll have to dismantle the laptop and look for it yourself.

You are lucky mate that your Video screen Flex cable it's EDP 1 and EDP 2, some laptops are only using EDP 1 and in that case you are not able to use a 1080p screen for upgrade :( cause 1080p screens needs 2 lanes (EDP 2). A good way to know if your laptop video screen flex cable is EDP 2 if it is your laptop model has more versions like let's say Hp bla bla 500 and you look for your model and put 1080p in google and there are one or two versions of your laptop with better specs and maybe more expensive than yours your video flex could be EDP 2 :) cause the version of the model you have it was cheaper and only with a 1366x768 screen. There are many cases that you can buy an IPS 1080p screen and won't turn on in the laptop :( Just a tip just in case. If I check your screen model AUO B140XTN07.7 it's EDP 1.2 and the other one N140HCG-GQ2 it's EDP 2! Thanks for the video! It was very useful!

Ah that's a good thing to highlight. I do know that this laptop works with 1080p because it does come with a 1080p version. Maybe that's a sign that the laptop comes with EDP 2?

What about eDP1.2 to eDP1.3 upgrade? Will it work? Also the new one consumes more power.

@@r_majka I got my screen from Amazon for the return policy incase there were any issues. Most laptops just require you to peel off the bezel around the screen. Some heat helps to loosen up the glue and remove it. There are a lot of videos on removing different screens to get down how to replace the panel.

Excellent video. Thank you. I just purchased an MSI Katana 15, and the major complaint I saw that people had with it was the screen. It's nice to see there's a way for me to pretty easily upgrade it should I decide to do so.

Can't. The laptop needs to have the connector for touch screen to be able to use it

you have no idea how long i've been searching for this kind of video. i bought the same laptop last year and was really disappointed with the screen and have been searching on panelook for an upgrade and found the BOE NV140FHM-N66. havent done anything yet since i have zero confidence with it and dont want to end up with it being incompatible

You should look on Google what to look for when upgrading your screen. Like edp connection, how many ports etc. Research as much as possible until you're 100% confident to replace your screen with full compatibility in theory. Practicality is anltber story ofc

I have the exact same laptop and I can confirm the screen is pretty bad. But the good thing about low resolution screens is, you can actually play games on it since the GPU doesn't have to push as many pixels on it. I managed to play Ace Combat 7 on it at low settings and it's playable at that low resolution. Now I'm split between having a better screen and being able to do light gaming on the laptop..:)

Ok. How did you get old controller (on motherboard) to match new screen timings? If i set wrong timings on my display controller, this Samsung 40-inch screen shows nothing but diagonal lines.😂 Most display controller OEMs do not connect write-enable pin. They flash firmware to chips before soldering them in place. With a little poking, i got the logo branding off an Acer screen. Trick was getting a clean firmware dump. Note: They didn't make it easy.😁 Oh, lightly wetsand glue frost off, and hit it with a black marker. You won't see it as much. Otherwise, great job.👍

I know I'm commenting late but I need a bit of a suggestion , I have an asus tuf a15 2020 model , it's model name is FA506II, I want to upgrade it's display to either 4k 120hz or 2k 240hz. i have a s145 the laptop is POWERFUL to run anything i want with no struggles, however for whatever reason the screen IS HORRIBLE jeez (AND ITS TECHNICALLY THE UPGRADED MODEL) i have a 1080p, there are even worse versions going at 720p.... i intentionally bought the better model, yet the screen still sucks hard... hopefully i can upgrade to a 4k with srgb and hdr...

Questions. If I were to swap the screen MNG007DA1-1 (2560x1600 165hz edp1.4 40pin) To NE160QAM-NX1(3840x2400 120hz edp1.4b 40pin) both screens are in same size. Should I be concerned about the edp version difference?
