Excellent video for beginners. I think the only thing he didn't mention is the saw should be at full speed before beginning the cut. He showed it, just didn't state it.

No you start with a little throttle then when you touch the wood (if its a big piece) rev it full throttle, then when you get towards the end back off on the throttle.

Bill B Yup, reving up the saw before you start to cut would be wise or else it will be hard to cut.

When I did my chainsaw course, my instructor told me there is nothing of interest on the righthand side of the bar, in other words keep yourself to the left of the bar, just in case of kickback. Another safety feature is the anti vibration features on the saw. And when starting the saw, I was taught to check everything is working, the lubrication of the bar and test the chainbrake, run the saw upto full power and apply the brake and that it stops the chain from running. Always use the righthand on the throttle and when starting the saw, give a quick press on the throttle to drop the revs to prevent unnecessary strain on the chainbrake band.

Well, the greatest danger with a chain saw is idiocy. Feller lives on the farm next to mine was a' usin' his Stihl to cut 2x4's for a storage bin he was a' buildin'. He was a' usin' the damn thang like ye'd use a Skil Saw. Not to mention he must of had at least 6-7 Busch's in the 2 hours I was there a' watchin' and a' talkin' to him. He says to me, he says, "I hate a' havin' ta hold that trigger ever time I make a X$%# cut. Why don't the son of a %$*% have a lock on like my other saws?". Then I see him stomp off to his garage and come back with electrical tape. He tapes the trigger down in the on position and keeps a' cuttin'. Well, I guess I don't have to tell you he had a closed casket at his funeral.

Make sure to TEST your chain brakes(by dropping the saw on a block of wood from 1foot).....they are a pretty common Failure point on most saws...nothing worse than having a False send of security and fails when you Need it. Would you jump in a car and go Right to 120mph, THEN decide to see if your brakes work?

I was running this saw for about 2 hours at about a 30-50% duty cycle kzfaq.infoUgkxfQm1wmg0ItKDLavxj1nXtQY9HP7EF504 and it did a great job. I used the lever for the built in sharpener to clear chip buildup out more than to actually sharpen the chain. It managed to cut some hardwood stumps much larger than it's size without bothering the neighbors with hours of 2 stroke noise.

I'm at my Grandpas house in Texas rn and work in a slaughterhouse and I took a chainsaw home. I showed it to my family and they got mad and sent me to my basement. Later a beautiful girl and some lame dude and their friends are invading my grandpas house I had no choice but to defend the property and I struck the lame dude with a mallet he was unconscious. Later the girl ran out the houses and to keep her off the property I attempted turning on the chainsaw and chasing her off the property it moved so crazy when I fell the chainsaw nicked me in the leg. Instructions not clear how to turn off chainsaw? A cool biker friend of mine fell on it and my uncle was mad I tried to move it but it was so heavy I pulled to fast and then Woosh

If you've never used a chainsaw before get somebody in to do it because if you're using a chainsaw for the first time you need to buy some chainsaw trousers helmet ear muffs visor chainsaw trousers alone cost $600 Plus more depending on where you go then you got the helmet then you've got the chainsaw you may as well get somebody in to do it I have been a tree surgeon for 15 years I've spent at least 100000 dollars on chainsaw equipment just get the professionals in then you won't get hurt

A Person if you've never had training with a chainsaw then it's a very high risk of hurting yourself I've been doing tree surgery for the past 30 years believe me I know what I'm talking about chainsaw chaps don't always protect you I've got two scars on my leg from chainsaw injuries whilst up in trees while felling trees and the injuries we're not from the beginning when I started one happened 5 years ago one happened 7 years ago I've had training like I said I've been doing this for 30 years I still have accidents people I know have accidents somebody who I know who has been doing tree felling since the first chainsaw was invented as accidents it happens get training to learn how to use them properly don't just buy one from the shop and go straight and use it because you will definitely hurt yourself
@aperson4933
@aperson4933 6 жыл бұрын
I haven't exactly had 'professional, certified training' although I was taught by my father who had like 30 years of chainsaw experience. When I use a chainsaw, I am typically cutting firewood or branches just for fun with my Stihl MS170. Sometimes I'll break out my MS 271 Farm Boss if I'm cutting big wood and I'm intimidated by that saw. I don't fall trees very often and I'm not an arborist...yet. I wear chaps and steel toe boots and even though chaps won't promise no injuries, it will make the difference in getting a little cut that'll heal in 2 weeks or bleeding to death. Even the pros have fuck-ups and that's the way it is. See, with the amount of land I have, I NEED to know how to use a chainsaw. I call arborists to take down dangerous trees and sometimes if a tree looks like an easy fall, I'll do it myself.
