My great-grandma, my granny, and my mama all cooked using cast iron. Unfortunately, I don't have any of their pieces, but I started my own collection 45 years ago. I love cooking on my cast iron and will pass my collection to my granddaughters. This "cook it all" cast iron looks great for those that camp and want to pack minimal but want great results while cooking outdoors on a campfire. Great job Lodge for another fine product made in the USA!!

Nothing spurns on creativity like real competition. Field, StarGazer, ButterPat, Field.... Lodge hit a HomeRun on this piece imo. Note to Lodge: please introduce a "new, old style" 10" or 12" skillet to the round-up; smooth, maybe even machined finish, with a nice mid range weight. Way to go on the "Cook-All"! Respect.

Would Lodge make a companion Cook-It-All in a 8-inch size? Sometime people are not in large families or in groups. It would be nice if all the pieces could interchange between the Cook-It-All, Skillet, and Dutch Oven. On second thought, a 10-inch size would work better than the 8-inch size.

I think this is a really attractive innovation, but... I have a decent collection of Lodge cookware already. Whatever this thing can do, I can already do. Just one person's opinion: The best of the best are, 1) The Lodge 14" cast iron wok and 2) the Lodge 14" pizza pan. With those two items, you can do anything that can be done. Be it in the kitchen or on the campfire.

Too bad those horrible tariffs will likely force them to lay off workers and automate more so that those jobs will never come back.
@lordgarion514
@lordgarion514 6 жыл бұрын
@@robertm4050 Probably not. There isn't all that much human labor in making a pan, and they don't sell that much. Just wouldn't really be worth it. It takes a very large volume to make the expenses worth it. (Coke otoh, spent millions to switch to corn syrup because it saved them just a half cent.... Per can. But they sell a LOT of cans) Note: they made the pouring of the molds automatic back in the beginning of the 1950's.
@robertm4050
@robertm4050 6 жыл бұрын
I am talking about the tax on metals. It has been a boon for a few metal foundries, but for many businesses that use those metals it has been a heavy burden. Since the pans are made of metal, it will mean their costs go up considerably and this would cause them to find ways to reduce costs and lay off workers. I think cast iron is having a renaissance and it probably makes sense to update factories now while they are selling more than they have in years.
@lordgarion514
@lordgarion514 6 жыл бұрын
@@robertm4050 The tariffs on metals isn't on all, or even many metals. And iron isn't one of the metals that have had tariffs added by the idiot.. Steel and aluminum have nee tariffs But even then, a 25% increase in something as cheap as what common metals are isn't much extra cost when you're talking about things that only have a few pounds at most. Not to mention that most things made in America already have more profit built in than they should. So they're overpriced already. If the increase in tariffs makes them raise prices and it hurts sales they can just make due with less profit TBH.

I'm lucky; I married a sweetie who came with her grandmother's cast iron skillets. Then, 40 years ago, we supplemented the basic cookware with a couple additional pieces - our large, rectangular "fish Fryer" has become a must-have in the kitchen. If I had to buy any cast iron nowadays, I'd be spending the hours combing through yard sales and such in search of Griswold, milled surface cookware. Bought some Lodge for my daughter when she flew the coup 10 years ago - luckily we found a place that had VERY old NOS stuff underneath the pile of new junk. "Sir, are you sure you do not want that skillet in a new, clean box?" Nah!

very nice! im sure I'll have to add this to my collection someday. Hats off to Lodge as I didnt think there could be another cast iron product left to discover! Only issue I have is that the quality control is horrendous. You can see it in the pictures on the website for the 14cia. The grind marks and slag on the premier launch makes me wonder why even make a big deal about a new "release". My last purchase of a Lodge product had the same type of issue... all 6 pieces had horrible DEEP grinding marks, (I should say gouges). after complaining to the vender I was referred to the HMF'er in-charge, only to get a song and a dance. The excuse was these are one of a kind pieces and the marks give it a special appeal. Now I usually clean up my new purchases and grind/sand edges smooth along the outer diameter...makes them look a little more "top shelf". The gouges were too deep to try and remove. sorry but Wamlmart junk cast iron looks better JMHO

I’m not sure why this item is significantly preferable to the 12 inch Lodge Dutch oven I already own, which is excellent. The Dutch oven is shallow enough to reach into for sautéing, but deeper than the item in this video, so it holds more, I think. The lid can be used as a griddle as well. Thoughts?

I have a 12" camp oven also and I was wondering the same thing too. The camp oven's downside is that it probably weighs more, but I really can't see how the do-it-all could be that much more versatile unless you just want grill marks on your steaks, and possibly a little less weight.

Robby Ritter I agree. Yes this new pot can do a couple of things that the Dutch oven can’t do, but the new pot is so shallow - there are things that the Dutch oven can do, like roast a chicken or anything else large. It would be interesting to know the total volume of the new pot.

Datil Man its pretty easy. Sautee sausage, peppers and onion, pour in chicken broth and crushed tomatoes with uncooked rice. Let simmer for about 20 mins then add shrimp. Or if you do chicken and sausage sautee your chicken with the pepper onion and sausage. I also add garlic powder and file powder used generally in gumbo. Jambalaya is a very easy 1 pot recipe.

I wish Lodge would put more effort into milling their cooking surfaces. They are so rough as delivered as to be unusable. I buy older used pieces from other brands like Griswold and Wagner because they were better made and made with care.

Agree. The surface needs to be worked over pretty hard and season it all over again. Wish I knew that when I started using cast iron 10 years ago.

i've used brand-new lodge logic pans before and never had any issues with sticking or uneven cooking. the smooth-surface thing is a myth.

I have a lot of new (self-seasoned) Lodge cookware that I have never touched the cooking surface and they are now smooth as silk w/mirrored sheen. To me, I think the rougher surface allows a better bond for the seasoning to adhere to...

The texture is there for the seasoning to stick too. If you don't like it, buy a sander

How easy is it to clean? Especially flipping the grill over after using it to then use the griddle side.
