Tommy! I am 75 years old and have probably been using drills longer than you've been alive; however, you taught me something today! The proper way to secure a drill in the new drill motors was probably in the owners manual - but. I'm so smart, I didn't read it! I had no idea that actuallt torqueing it in was better than the "quick grab and trigger" method. Much obliged, young fellow. Excellent presentation. 🤠

For many years I drilled holes into concrete using a regular drill. Never needed a lot of holes in concrete, but always didn't look forward to that task. I knew about hammer drills but come on, how much faster could they really be? Well I had a fair amount of concrete to drill and it was kicking my butt so I broke down and bought a hammer drill. Holy crap, couple minutes vs 30-60 minutes.

DeWalt's decision to put torque, drill and hammer all on a single collar is the reason I buy Makita. I regularly go from drilling to screwdriving. I do not want to be twisting that collar between every operation. Makita's approach of a torque collar and a separate drill/drive/hammer lever is a far superior solution.

I started out with an entry level 18v drill + driver 2 piece kit, and later on added a brushless 18v hammer drill (same brand, better model). Having 3 items means less changing of bits when doing drilling, countersinking, and driving. Really saves time and faffing about. And if you stay in one ecosystem, the batteries are interchangeable too.

Pre-drilling means to drill a hole before you put the screw. You dont always do that, often you just screw it in and let it make its own hole. Drilling is when you need a hole for other things than a screw. Pre-drilling is a useful word, if i were to instruct someone i just say "remember pre-drilling here" instead of "remember to drill holes first before you put screws here". Its called pre-drilling because it is followed by screwing, a very useful word that simplifies our language. In mechanical production we use pre-drilling too, and a lot, thats were the word came from, we always drill a smaller hole before using a large diameter drillbit, or else the large drillbit will wobble so much that the hole get the wrong diameter and often the drillbit will break from sideways forces. Pre-drilling is also used when working on the inner dia in a lathe. Youre just clueless and got no real life experience, its as simple as that.

One "trick" I've discovered recently is when tightening the chuck is to do it as you normally would, but then you need to twist the chuck backwards gently and it'll click to lock your chuck. All these years I've been just wrenching it as hard as I could without locking it! Doesn't seem to be a very well know thing........
