Very refreshing to see a woman giving good advises on how to use power tools! I'm just a happy amateur and may not have the same ability for precise motion as a professional, but I would actually position the base plate in the opposite direction to what you demonstrated. - When using the Roundover bit and the Side Groove bit, having more area of the base plate on the work piece will reduce the chance of tilting the vertical axis of the router (which causes uneven cuts). - When using the vertical Groove Cut bit, the distance (of the groove) from the edge guide will not be influenced by any rotation of the router around the vertical axis if the circular part of the base plate is held against the edge guide.
@ryanetotherescue

Excellent input! Thank you so much! I was also thinking the base plate should have been the other way for the round over bit. But I positioned it like the instruction manual (which I thought was weird). I'm glad to hear that my instincts were correct. Thanks for watching!! :)

I've done my share of routing in the past. Got pretty good at sliding dovetail joinery, not anywhere near master level, but got done what I needed . along with decorative edging. etc. Being a huge Ryobi fan, have had my eye on this model, tired of the corded tools. The best nearly dustless way of routing I've found is using a router table....ah..but the set ups involved....lol. I must say, this video was extremely well done & professional, very informative, no stone left unturned here that I could see..... I think I'm in love now......... with the tool, of course.😘

Not sure if anyone is run into this, but my depth kept changing. It was annoying and I found out the screw that secures the black latch needed to be a bit tighter. Since it wasn't tight enough, the bit depth would drop during use. There's a small allen key to tighten it. Tighten it until you can't move the depth guide, then loosen it just enough until it comes free.

@@ryanetotherescue no rounded end off the edge. Square side inboard on face of the workpiece. It’s the widest part of the plate. Being careful I press down with my left thumb to get good registration for this tippy tool. The only thing you can screw up with round-overs is the bit too proud. It just occurred to me to mount an offset handle there to remove my thumb from the proximity of the bit. Still using my 30+ year old pistol grip Makita with a knob on the front.

I'm currently in the market for a cordless palm router, and since I'm already in the Ryobu platform the PCL424 is one that I'm considering. Watched your video to get some info on it, and was surprised at a couple of your "tips." First, since I don't own the router yet I can't be sure, but it certainly appears that the dust collection port should go on the open side, not in place of the flat peice already installed. You will get far better dust collectiong on ANY tool the more enclosed the cutting area is. Second, routers are not ALWAYS used left to right. If you were to use the router on the side farthest from you and move left to right that would be a climb cut and is extremely dangerous as it can cause a kickback event. You should always move a router counter-clockwise around the outside of a work piece. Therefore if you were to route the side farthest from you, you would need to move it from right to left. Also, if you were routing the interior of a work piece one some like the inside of a donut shaped piece for example you would move the clockwise. I would hope you could make an edit or addendum to this video to clear that up. I'd be worried that someone who has never used a router and only watches your video might do something like move in a counter-clockwise motion on the interior of a work piece, or from left to right on side farthest from them, and cause a dangerous kickback and hurt themselves. Otherwise the video was helpful in making my purchase decision.

Thank you for this video, very helpful! Ryobi instruction manuals are usually decent, but I found this router's instructions rather unclear at times. Btw I'm curious, have you found the measuring ruler on the side useful? I don't see how it could be used consistently / accurately, because every time you install a different bit, the recommended gap that we are supposed to leave between the bit and the collet will vary slightly - not to mention the varying lengths of bits themselves. Maybe I'm thinking about this the wrong way?
@ryanetotherescue
