Switching to a Safety Razor is one of the best things i've ever done. In todays video I show you how to actually use a safety razor and hopefully will show you that it isn't as scary as it seems! (Mine may have sat in my draw for 2 months before I got the courage to actually use it - so I feel ya! 🙈😂)
A little bit about safety razors -
✧ You can get either a single or double edged blade, I recommend getting a double edged blade, it's so much better value for money and once one side gets clogged up you can just switch to the other side
✧ You can get either long or short handled safert razors, I reccomened the longer ones if you're wanting to shave far away places like your legs and intimate areas, it makes like a little easier
✧ Make sure you clean and dry your razor & blade after each use to avoid rust and to keep the blade sharp
✧ Make sure you recycle your razor blades once you're finished with them. In the video I say you can compost them but please keep in mind that they can take a long time to decompose.
If you have any questions at all then please leave them below, i'm more than happy to help! 😊

I really understand the whole point of not shaving because of what other people think. To be honest the only reason I shave my legs if for the feeling of freshly shaved legs on clean bed sheets 😂

Glad I’m not the only one. I couldn’t care less about my leg hair and often go out in shorts with my hairy legs if I didn’t have time to shave, but I do usually shave because everything just feels better on smooth skin. My sheets, my pants everything feels like silk on freshly shaven legs 😂

* I mention composting the blades in the video but no longer recommend this, please collect them in a small pot and take them to your local recycling centre instead as this is much safer * Today we’re getting personal and I’m sharing parts of my body I never thought I would share up close on the internet… 🙈😂! I wanted to show you that using a safety razor isn’t scary at all and to be honest it’s not much different to using a normal old razor. I hope this helps and that it inspires you to make the switch if you haven't already. Hope you're all having an awesome day! 🌞 Kay x

So thank you so so much for doing a demonstration you’ve made me feel a lot better about moving to a a safety razor! My pleasure lovely! They are pretty much exactly the same as using a normal razor, the only difference is you don't need much pressure and you have to change the blade yourself, i'm glad my video helped you to see they aren't as scary as they seem. 😊 Also, it's so awesome that the blades can be recycled isn't it! Hi Kay, I've been transitioning to a low impact lifestyle for the past several years. Thank you for such an empowering video. I purchased my last package of disposable razors about 3 years ago. As a woman who rarely shaves, I've been growing more and more frustrated with what to replace disposables with as my supply dwindles. Now I feel confident that I can make the switch to a safety razor.

Another great video, Kay! This has been a bit of a nostalgia trip for me because when I started shaving (my face!) back in the mid-Seventies it was a toss-up between a safety razor and an electric shaver - none of the modern plastic cartridge razors of today were around. So I used an old safety razor that had belonged to my dad. In case there are any men watching who are thinking of switching over to DE safety razors, can I add a couple of bits of advice? First, get your shaving water as hot as you can bear it, and soften your beard by pressing a flannel soaked in the hot water against your face for thirty seconds or so before you lather up. And second, use soap, or a proper shaving cream. I use either a readily available Wilkinson's Sword shaving soap, or L'Occitane cream, or a solid L'Occitane olive oil soap, and I lather up with a brush. (If you're vegan, there are some perfectly good synthetic shaving brushes available nowadays; you don't have to go down the badger route). But don't use foams or gels: they're far too thick and gloopy and they clog the razor head and keep the edge of the blade away from your skin. Other than that I think Kay's covered all the angles, as usual. All the best me dear!

I like that you actually showed how you shave your underarms because that's the area I'm most nervous about shaving with my new safety razor. I get why people don't want to shave due to social pressure but people shave for all sorts of reasons. I'm extremely sensitive to any sort of physical pressure on my body and I shave my underarms because the hair (regardless of length) makes me itchy or in summer causes chafing. I also shave in summer because it's so much cooler lol. I find the whole process very meditative and calming, which is a really good thing. I've never shaved due to social pressure, in fact in high school I was bullied because I didn't shave my legs (we had winter uniform skirts). To assume that someone is shaving due to social pressure is very judgmental and unimaginative.

I was sold on my first shave. I'd go years without shaving just because I hated the performance and cost of the multi-blade disposables, but that changed with the safety razor. Now I can enjoy the smooth feeling of a good shave and odor control without the wasteful trash. Seriously though it baffles me that these things are not the norm.

Hi Kay, An excellent step by step explanined video well done and thank you. I find that by using a safety razor I only have to shave my legs and armpits etc once a week whereas with the disposables it was every other day. I have bony knees so they are the worst part for a possible razor cut for me but I have found that by just bending the knee the bones dissapear and the razor glides over! I use soap and wet my legs with warm water and like you always moisurise well after shaving. Keep up the good work. You must be getting so excited now as May 12th is getting nearer, we will miss you in the UK though and I hope you will find time to keep in touch with us all! XXX

Store your used blades in a beer or soda can which made of metal! When it's full (you can easily fit 100), tape the opening, write "Razor blades, caution" on the box and take it to the recycling bin. It's the safest and most environmentally friendly option.

Three more plastic razors to go and then I can get on the bandwagon! It's insane how long its taken me to even begin to see any minimal and ethical changes because of trying to use up everything else! Still I think back on everything I ever owned and everything I am still to use up ashamed that I blindly lived a life along with so many others believing it to be the 'only way'. So many items I have/had were labelled as one thing when, in reality, it could have had 10s maybe even 100s of uses! Does anyone know of any all purpose soaps - from laundry to shampoo - which are available? I am considering soap nuts but I would like to try a solid bar for easier use when travelling. My main concern is keeping my hair and skin hydrated while also not staining my clothes in the wash with natural oils in the soap.... Maybe it can't be done but please let me know if anyone has found an all purpose soap or if soap nuts are easy enough to use while traveling! 💙🐘

Hehehe, awesome to hear Zoe! I know right, it's craaaaazy how much I used to stock pile products because they were on sale and 'cheaper' One thing to remember is to be kind to yourself and realise that life is a journey, we all make mistakes and do things we wish we didn't, but the important thing is that you're changing and becoming more aware each day and also acting upon it which is most powerful of all! Baby steps and together we will get there 😀 Sorry I can't give much advice about the soap but if I ever get more knowledge about it i'll definitely let you know 🙂❤️

Helen B I know exactly what you mean! My mum sends me care packages from time to time and when I'm home I sneak them back into their place! 😂 So for example she'll send me toothbrushes with such good intentions so when I am home again I put them back where she keeps them to save on the amount that she'll buy! She sees me use my bamboo toothbrush and other things and does seem interested so maybe we can make beautiful little zero wast starter kits for our mothers in the future! 😊💙

what soap do you use,i purchased a vegan bristle shaving brush from amazon and it makes such a difference .Once you put the soap on your legs if you wet the brush and rub it up and down your leg it makes the soap so frothy you really can use much less soap.Or you can also rub the brush directly on the bar of soap then rub it on your legs it makes the shave so much smoother. hope this helps, love your videos.thank you

Another great video Kay - I love my safety razor and my husband James loves his too - we also use soap lather but James has special shaving soap bars which lather up with a brush and produce a lot of lather - but I just use natural unscented normal soap like you - I think if people wanted more lather then the shaving soap dish and brush might be a good fit for them xx

One thing to add: If one DE blade brand isn't working for you, there are tons of others out there. Pretty much all the blade brands made in St Petersburg, Russia for Gillette are good to great in terms of performance. My current go-to is the Gillette Minora Platinum.

Mine are super thin and light too, I shouldn't worry too much. Have you had a look at the reviews from other people who have bought from them? 😊 If it's the same brand they could have just changed the packaging, just pop them in your razor and give it a go 😊 Just make sure to use light pressure and use it as you would a regular razor xx

I feel it gives a nice close shave but hair grows back within a few days as it's not pulling the root out. The only way to get it to not grow back as fast is to wax it 😊

Well I just used one of these for the first time (found it at Woolies for any Aussies out there), I was nervous but it was so unnecessary, I did all the scary places like the ankles, back of the knee, underarms etc and I had no problem at all, I didn't need to go very slow either, I even pushed down a bit to see if I would nick myself but nope! So easy, safe and great result. Bye bye shitty plastic razors!

Still freaks me out a bit, im pretty sure I'd end up cutting myself! Great video though! I'm not brave enough to try one yet, but tbh I shave less than once a month! Omg what about intimate areas though??? How did you find doing them? More risky then normal razors?
@Livingthelifeyoulove
@Livingthelifeyoulove 5 жыл бұрын
It's literally the same as using a normal razor 🙂 I've had no issues with it at all even shaving intimate areas. Give it a go - you won't regret it! They look scarier than they actually are haha plus there's only one blade - most conventional razors have 2+!

😱 did you do it in the shower or bath with soap? It helps if you’ve been under hot water to soften your pores. Was it a new blade? That shouldn’t ever happen! I’d say definitely too much pressure or wrong angle x

Ma'am I'm an older man and I believe everyone has the right. To tend and groom their bodies as they see fit. With this said I refuse to be in a relationship with a woman. Who doesn't shave her legs or underarms I don't expect her to shave her pubic hair because it helps her keep things out that can cause her. A bunch of grief and ailments It creeps me out to see a woman that has hair on her legs and underarms longer and thicker than mine. God bless you and your family

I don’t really understand why people are intimidated by this? It is basically just a stainless steel bodied razor rather than plastic. Not meant to be disrespectful but anyone want to explain the hesitation? I only just learned about them but I am thinking of switching once my current razor is used up.
