I learned this little trick a few years ago and decided to share it.
The wire saw that comes in many survival kits tends to break very easily. This shows how to use it in a more efficient way and reduces the likelihood of breaking it.

Finally someone demonstrating that with hand tools technique is everything, videos of clumsy oafs breaking their tools abound. I can use these saws being a well coordinated person. yeah well done video mister. the bow is the way to go, also the wood must not be able to move as it is being cut.
@Occupuyourspine

also, allowing the wood to move while cutting is by far the most overlooked flaw by those that saw.

Good video. I've also found that pouring a little water on it to keep it cool, really extends the life of these saws. I have also coated the blade in wax to help lube it while cutting, kind of like a chain saw blade needs oil to help cool and lube it. Keep up the great work.

Two other tips: 1. Don't saw anything you can break. 2. Don't saw anything with a wire saw that you can saw with your Swiss Army Knife or Multi-tool. Save the wire saw for the bigger tasks none of the other tools will handle. EDC a SAK or multi-tool, you are more likely to have it on you than any survival kit. The old military ones can cut a nail, so keep that in mind if you have one and need to cut through a wire fence. I just bought 2 and a total of 8 replacement blades for them from the original company that made them for USAF survival kits.

Brother I'm sure you've heard this before but use the whole stroke. LOL. I have found a wire saw that will actually cut 12 L 14 Steel they were cheap and yes it did want to warp from the heat but it worked on a 1 inch thick piece of Steel

I always pack the chain from a chainsaw. Just take 2 rivets out of a link and put 2 pieces of 9ga. wire through the holes. It'll cut some good size logs in almost no time.

Awesome .. regardless of the black screen ... Cordage could be used to reinforce it so it doesn't slide as much. This is real way these are meant to be used. Other way is just a waste of T.C.E as nutnfancy would put it. Work smart not harder.

How to use a Wire Saw without it breaking? Don't use it. The size Twigs that you can use this kind of Saw on can be broken with your hand, or between two trees, NO? Anyway aren't these actually made for Bone? But ALL joking aside it was a good tip! But lets see you get through a 8'' Log with it. Lol.

I did a VR to Bryan from survival on purpose demonstrating jus that i did cut through 2 pieces of 2 inch branch. 8 inch is feasable but it will take time. in survival i would not go more then 2 inch anyway.
