How to use a Tape Measure properly

In this video I show you how to use a tape measure properly and how to use the flappy bit at the end of your tape measure to obtain a correct measurement. A measuring tape is designed to take inside AND outside measurements however 90% of people I see using a tape measure are using it incorrectly and are therefore getting inaccurate measurements. Hopefully this vid will help explain how to get accurate measurements out of your tape measure! Enjoy!

How about showing us how to make a complete inside measurement. I.e. if measuring a door opening. Seen joiners do it in one measurement just by bending the tape measure, but what do you recommend??

One of the best things I ever did was buy an all metric double sided tape measure. Now I get annoyed when using all my other tools that have both metric and imperial

Metric is not better than imperial. They are both measuring system that work.

@@bighands69 I didn't say it was better. I was brought up on Metric, so having a tape measure with both is a hinderance rather than a benefit. If I was brought up on imperial, I would equally want an imperial only tape measure.

I'm still baffled that, as an American, they sell measuring tapes (aka "Tape Measure") that uses both Imperial and Metric scale in the UK! I would have though that they would only use Metric scales!!!

Unfortunately we're still very much a mix of metric and imperial over here! Some trades (e.g. roofers) almost exclusively use imperial.

Pro Tip: Should you drop your tape, inspect the end hook for deflection. Else, you could cut half the fancy plywood for a project before finding it’s all the wrong length! 😡
