Ive used many screws, initially mostly PZ, but ultimately i found that Torx were the easiest. Mostly because they don't cam out at higher torque. True you need the right bit, but then PZ comes in 0,1,2 and 3 sizes at least. Using the wrong size invites caming out and if the screwdriver bit is a bit worn it damages the screw heads as well. So i don't agree with the conclusion here. The video clip of wobbling around with a Torx was silly, they don;t do that, that was contrived and made the rest of the video suspicious. Use the right size and they almost 'stick on' to the screw, just like a brand new, correct sized PZ. In the real world, with worn bits, it's far more likely that the PZ gives trouble. Torx, or Robertson are by far better, though PZ comes along after them. I agree that Phillips is bad. Contact area is determined in part by flex of the head, and driver in principle, under pressure, this was too simplistic.

I'm in the USA and measure everything I can in metric. The half imperial/metric is akward for the reasons you mentioned. I've look all over the internet for a tape measure like yours, all metric two sided, sold in the USA, but no luck.

The customer part was interesting, that’s why I do everything with Torx so people don’t even try to unscrew my stuff 😂😂😂 jokes aside, for home usage I just recommend buying like a box of 200pc T20 screws and another box of compatible anchors and being happy forever.

It seems that those Robertson screws are hardly available here in Germany 🇩🇪, at least I've never seen them anywhere in practice. My favourites are hex (Allen), Pozi and Torx (although the latter are less available for some applications).

The building industry has been like this since the the late 1980s. One reason for this, college's. My son went to college to become a Electrician back in the mid 1990s. I don't think I've ever seen such a joke in my life... And nothing has improved since. What the further education facilities call 'learning a craft' is nothing more than a scam and a brilliant revenue earner for the college's. Many moon's ago, City and Guilds was a respected and highly regarded certificate of standard. Now, over many decades, its become a watered down piece of useless paper. If my my father, who was a professional builder came back today, he'd turn his back on the industry and the craft that made him a respected builder.

The problem im seeing is backward logic and standards in british culture. I see many people talking about how "old houses have stood the test of time and I wouldnt trust a new build." This is a twofold problem. First, builders work ethic is terrible in the UK. This has given new builds a bad reputation. Second, as a nation we are averse to change and look back for legacy. Problem is we are being left behind in the world in housing quality while we shiver in wonky, falling down terraced houses, other countries are building high quality modern houses. Seems to me theres a gap in the market for reputable builders.

Worst thing about new builds is the way the estate is set up. Every home is crammed in to maximise profits from the plot. You have to be mad to buy newbuilds.

Great practical review and demo. And very reassuring hearing you've put it to work for 15 years - rare indeed in these "designed to a MTTF" disposable times! And I guess a tribute to the fact that @4:34 you "always grease your bits!" Too much information, especially from a "handy man!" Thanks for posting, I'm off to buy one to replace my Bosch that blew up when the bit jammed on encountering a reinforcing rod in the concrete!

Same everywhere - Doncaster council approved a new build with parks and bowling green and shoips and a new doctors = nothing . Now their latest one is in a village called Rossington . A look at the plans and it's a joke . They moved the pit tip to cover 100 acres of farm land and demolished the farm with the consent given that when finnished the new tip would be 20ft and covered in trees with a peace garden around the cemetary it encircled = 100ft and no trees or peace garden and the footpath to a vilage called Wadworth hasn't been re-instated even though it was closed for opnly 6 year's , now been 10 . They come up with the utopian outlook to get the planning approved then the councils never followup once the BS comes to light . Too many " back handers " floating around for the elected representatives to be bothered with the ones they represent .

Amazing job , tbh , I have look at everything, copper job will look better inside the house , you do need lagging inside the pipe work, if you run the heating for an example at 24 degrees inside the house , the legionnaires disease grows easily in stagnant water from 20 degrees Celsius of the heat , and be-careful when you drilling trough those walls, the cover on the walls looks like old artex to me , the house is old , the red tiles on the floor the old cement and what knot , ain’t matter what size they’re, careful with everything inside the house specially when you drilling and where you exposing the dust in the air , old house are nightmare, they use to much asbestos, same as the external rendering wall where you running the gutter, wear the FPP3 mask , and make sure the beard is shaved , before you wearing the mask , I’m only trying to be helpful, you wouldn’t believe how careful you have to be , living in an old houses .

We had a Leech house in the 1960s, Leech was downmarket but affordable. And the houses were adequately built. There was another builder with lots of developments and his houses did have better finishes, The plasterwork was excellent! But you paid for what you got. The 'posh' builder apparently saved on site costs because he had 'connections'. I think he landed in jail. But the houses were good. Your electric system was a disgrace, and the electrician clearly incompetent but the guy who certified it should be locked up for gross negligence. My guess is that too many so called craftsmen are not trained and examined. In Germany an electrician, bricky, plumber or whatever has a 3+ years apprenticeship before he or she is allowed to work unsupervised. In UK apprenticeships used to be 5 to 6 years.(Time served) So how are craftsmen trained and examined nowadays?

"They're will always be problems" when you were talking about newbuilds..... that's the problem..... there SHOULDNT BE PROBLEMS. It's bloody new. That your list was "Generally OK" to you demonstrated the issue, that the industry is so dire that the list of things you said was considered to be "OK". THE ELECTICAS WERE LETHAL. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS.

Interesting to see about the equity issue. This really must be a regional problem because here in the south east we have seen the price for new-builds to sit a good 10% below the local market value when sold off plan and gaining as much as 20% when sold on 2 years later.

I've been saying this for years. These new builds are poorly built, thrown up on mass with no thought to the community longterm, overpriced and generally shite. The government need to get on this asap and deal with it. Because these developers are fleecing the public with this. There is no infrastructure being put in place, no schools, no GP's, no shops, no pubs, no additional police, no public transport etc. It's a joke.
