This is a good fix for an old car that you are looking to do a budget friendly repair on. I would not do it on a new car because if the AC system is discharged on a new vehicle you have a problem bigger than this can fix.

Yes, this is adding additional refrigerant to your system. If you have a leak though it will not fix the leak.

Hi i have a 2003 s10 and with the a/c on, no cold air blows through. I added refrigerant and the compressor would spin for about 2 seconds then shut off, then a little while later again for 2 seconds, i added the whole bottle. I dont know if i need to add more, or if there is a leak, or if its the compressor. Please help and i love your videos.

I just tried recharging my 2005 Neon's AC system with Super Tech R-134a. The compressor clutch was gong on/off for 20 minutes as the pointer on the gauge fluctuated between 20 psi and 50 psi. The weight of the bottle didn't change during that time so assumed their half-ass twist valve failed to puncture the seal to release the refrigerant. I'm going to return it Wally World and pay the difference the get their more expensive brand I've used in the past with good results.

When using this over the counter, should we just hook it up and start the process? My car is a Chevy Malibu 2005 (4 cylinder). I am curious if we should use a vacuum pump first, or if we need to cleanse the system first? Can we just go ahead and use the over the counter refrigerant without a problem? Thanks!

I just tried doing this and think the valve on the can failed to puncture the seal to release the refrigerant. I bought the cheap house brand from Walmart so will return it to get the more expensive brand they also sell since it's always worked as advertised for me in the past.

If you are low, often the clutch will short cycle until the low pressure switch is happy. You can jump it briefly to speed up the filling. If you do this,it's best to have a set of guages to compare the high side as well. The guages will go up together but you should NEVER see the low side go negative while the high side goes very high as this will men an obstruction at or near your evaporator....An overcharge will show an excessive high and low side above the norm.A flooded evaporator then becomes a "heater" and will produce a degree for every pound excess on the guage.....70 0n the low side and 230 on the high side is usually an over charge or the radiator fan is'nt doing a good job of cooling the condenser in front of the radiator. You can confirm this by spraying water on the condenser and watching to see if the high and low sides come down together.....30 and 150 on a 75 degree day ,average humidity, used to be pretty good for R/12 systems ,134 systems a little higher... There is a scale for performance based on relative humidity but you would have to look it up.............

That's the low side. High side= High pressure (liquid) can fit in smaller diameter tubes. Low side = Low pressure (vapor) expanded, fits only in larger diameter tubes. The R-134A (Refrigerant) cycling between high and low pressure is what removes heat from the inside of the cabin of the vehicle. (Or room.) It is this continuous endothermic reaction, caused by the alternating between high pressure and low pressure that does the job. (Some would argue not NEARLY as well or effectively as the older R-12 refrigerant. [Unfortunately, that older freon stuff is much more dangerous to the environment, (Chlorofluorocarbons (CFC's).) and has since been phased out of vehicle usage over the last couple of decades.]

Many of them now come with lubricant and leak seal in the can. You need to be very careful when you go to a mechanic...especially in summer months as they know you want it fixed and they'll charge you out the ass to recharge it. You can buy a can for $25 and do it yourself....if you go to a repair shop they'll charge you $200 and sometimes they'll throw more money on it and say you needed some repair. Fact is they do the same thing and go right to Autozone for the can..

You can try but it could mean that the pressure has gotten too low. You may need to jump the connector long enough for the compressor to turn on long enough to put the freon in.

Always low pressure side and hold can upside down if you do not then you risk blowing air into system but no refrigerant. You will get the pressure and compressor will turn on but still warm air. You blew air only in so the temp will not be as cold as it should be. Also If you over fill or under fill you will not get as cold air as you should. More is NOT better. 45 PSI with all refrigerant (no air) is the sweet spot. You will get 44 to 46 degrees air coming out vents if you get it right.

Do we really have to have the engine running while charging the A/C with that type of A/C recharging kit, or does it depend on the A/C the car has or on the method used to recharge it? I've seen some mechanics do the recharge with the engine off, but they were using a full size A/C charging machine, so I don't know very well how that works.

I know this post and video is old as dirt but....I always heard that you're supposed to recharge with the can standing upwards so only gas gets into the system not liquid refrigerator it's supposed to go in as a gas and then condense in the AC system. If anybody reads this is that right or wrong????

you are correct, Always low pressure side and hold can upside down if you do not then you risk blowing air into system but no refrigerant. Also these guys over filled/and blew air only in so the temp will not be as cold as it should be.

I had nowhere else to ask this, and can not find anyone that has helped. I have a 1999 Buick Park Avenue. My A/C stopped blowin out of vents. Floor and defrost only. I pulled the head, table top teched the inside. -5 re-spot solders were needed, as some seperate from the board from age. Thought that may have helped. No go. Correct me if I'm wrong but from what i checked there are a couple door actuator's that are in the dash. I have seen the one by left of glovebox is one that people said replace that one. Just want to be sure. Are they all the same when I order one. Do or would you know which one I may need to replace? Also "2" under left side of dash? I'd sure appreciate it.

Not necessarily. It could just be that the freon level is way too low and the compressor is not spinning as to protect itself. Bridging the pressure switch may be necessary in order to get the freon in.
