Do you have a Boss pedal? Then you also have a hidden reamp box! How cool is that?
If you are on a tight budget or just want to experiment with reamp to see if it fits your workflow before purchasing dedicated gear? you don need to spend money on a fancy reamp box, any Boss pedal will do the trick just fine and here I'll show you how to do it step by step!
Don't believe me? be sure to use a good pair of headphones or studio monitors and hear for yourself!

Judging by the amount of great feedback I receive for this video you guys seems to like it a lot but, for some reason, it goes almost unnoticed for the infamous "algorithm" of KZfaq. So if you liked it and want to help me, please share it with your musicians friends, on social media, Reddit, etc. and show KZfaq that it's worth reccommending. Thanks A LOT!!

THANK YOU SO FUCKING MUCH. I have been toiling over this problem for weeks and i just KNEW that there had to be solution utilizing equipment that i already own. my question is though, why doesn't anyone else seem to know about this? I have tried asking so many experienced people how to solve this problem and they all had literally no idea. I was literally about to buy a new interface and a passive reamp so you just saved me like 350 dollars and i am very grateful for that. now i can use outboard effects in real time with my production while monitoring simultaneously and i can't tell you how excited I am to get started.

I was getting ready to buy a $250 reamp pedal. While researching, I came across your video and realizing I had a GE-7 sitting in a box thought i would try it. It worked perfectly! Also,. I used it in the "on" position and A/B'd my original signal and used the EQ to match my Les Paul exactly as if it was playing into the amp. Using a battery instead of the power supply seemed to give me a little cleaner sound, but maybe that is in my head. When using overdriven/distorted guitars, I leave that original clean guitar in to give the finished sound some definition. Thanks for saving me $$$$!

This works! I had a one take improvised solo on a song recorded through an amp sim, which was perfect. I bought a 9 Euro Y cable and following the instructions took it from the headphone output of my interface to my pedalboard which has a Boss TU2 tuner then to the amp. No significant noise other than normal amp noise. I was unable to monitor through my RME Babyface Pro but the results are still great Thanks so much!

While I may end up buying a reamp pedal at some point, this video confirmed something major for me... there is a way to get a usable sound without the reamp box... I had done something similar and of course reading all the stuff out there (speaking of rabbit holes) had me questioning my ears. Really appreciate all the hard work... love this down-to-earth kind of thing. Thanks a ton! Just subscribed too.

I think that's exactly the point. This video doesn't means that no one should buy a reamp box again, they are great and the "right" tool for the job, but in a home studio environment, to see if all the reamp thing fits your workflow or just to "try before buy" this can be really useful, specially for people with tight budgets. Thanks a lot for the subscription! I really apreciate it and helps the channel a lot! Cheers

@@InspiringTracks Quick follow-up... I did a version of what's in your video except instead of using a Boss pedal (I will try that soon) I used the cheapest DI box on the internet (which has a -40db attenuator) and I actually have extra outputs on my Behringer interface so instead of headphone jack, I just used one of those... amazed at results... ChatGPT’s take on it: Using a guitar pedal with a built-in buffer to reamp sounds is technically possible but comes with some caveats. Here are the main points to consider: 1. **Impedance Matching**: A reamp box is specifically designed to convert the low-impedance, line-level signal from an audio interface or mixer to a high-impedance, instrument-level signal suitable for a guitar amplifier. A guitar pedal with a built-in buffer may not perform this impedance matching as effectively, potentially resulting in a less accurate or desirable sound. 2. **Level Adjustment**: Reamp boxes often include level controls to properly match the signal level to what a guitar amp expects. A typical guitar pedal with a buffer might not offer the same level of control, leading to signal level mismatches that could affect the sound quality. 3. **Noise and Ground Loop Isolation**: Reamp boxes typically have features to minimize noise and ground loop issues, which can be a significant problem when interfacing different pieces of audio equipment. A guitar pedal with a buffer might not provide the same level of isolation, potentially introducing unwanted noise. 4. **Signal Path Considerations**: Guitar pedals, even with buffers, are designed to work within a pedalboard setup and might not handle the line-level signals from an audio interface as cleanly as a dedicated reamp box. This could lead to signal degradation or other audio artifacts. **Practical Use Case**: - If you're in a pinch and don't have a reamp box available, you can try using a guitar pedal with a buffer. Place the pedal at the end of the signal chain from your audio interface, and then route the output to your guitar amp. However, be prepared to deal with potential issues related to impedance, signal levels, and noise. **Better Alternative**: - For consistent and high-quality results, investing in a dedicated reamp box is recommended. Reamp boxes like the Radial ProRMP or the Little Labs Redeye are specifically designed for this purpose and will ensure the best possible sound when reamping. In summary, while a guitar pedal with a built-in buffer can be used as a makeshift reamp solution, it may not provide the same quality and reliability as a dedicated reamp box.

Hey there, thank you so much for the video. I have a question for you that is slightly off-topic but has to do with what you’re saying. I am playing an acoustic guitar through a TC helicon play acoustic pedal. The Pedal does not have a guitar through but has an XLR DI guitar out. I want to run into a boss OC three, then into a NUX Atlantic, and then into a boss RC 500 after the play acoustic pedal… Then run it into my mixer. I am on a forum right now trying to figure out if I need an impedance transformer coming out of the play acoustic which outputs at around 300/150 ohms from the XLR direct out. My question: If I got a female XLR to 1/4” TS cable, would the first boss Pedal I run it into after my play acoustic pedal work the same as a Lo-Z to Hi-Z transformer?

Just to be clear your Mic is never ever plugged to your pedal in any way. 48V phantom power is always send through interface INPUTS and not outputs. So I don't know how you could send 48V to your pedal if your connecting setup is correct. If you have some doubt just never plug your pedal to the input of your interface if the 48v is enable.

@@InspiringTracks so in your opinion i can use a boss eq instead of buying a ream box like the daccapo ...or the radial ? but what about the guitar amp, is it good also for like more bass sound or just for leads and high freq sounds? do you think maybe is better using an acoustic guitar amp?
@InspiringTracks
@InspiringTracks 4 жыл бұрын
Usually when you are reamping trough a guitar amp other things that aren't guitars is because you want to impart the sonic characteristics of the amp to that instruments, kind of like an effect. They have a narrow frequency response with little bass and high end, and they distort easily and in a musical way, if that's the effect you want they are great, if not maybe you can try something else. And this method works great for the casual home recorded who do some reamp every now and then, if you plant to make a lots of reamps it isn't a bad idea to invest in a dedicated box

Hi there, thanks for the video!! I was wondering why do you use a Y cable? Could i just use a normal TS or TRS cable? Great video :)
@InspiringTracks
@InspiringTracks 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I´m glad you liked the video! Used the Y cable because the HP output is stereo. Don't use a mono TR cable since with it you are shorting one of the channels and ground. I don't think you can damage anything but better stay on the safe side. If you dont have an Y cable you can perfectly use a balanced/stereo one (TRS to TRS plugs), the Boss pedal doesn't care

Thanks! It depends entirely of you PC and audio interface. My DAW reports a latency of 2ms I found it unnoticeable. Since this isn't a realtime application, in case you have some noticeable latency you can always compensate it later by draging the audio as needed. Cheers and hope that helps!

Great vid! I’m just confused on the Y cable part. I didn’t see you connect the third tip into anything, so I guess I’m just wondering if the Y cable is entirely necessary? Or if I can use a regular instrument cable?
@InspiringTracks
@InspiringTracks 4 жыл бұрын
Dont use a regular mono cable. Since the headphone output is stereo, if you plug a mono cable you are shorting the ring and sleeve contacts of the interface and you dont want that. Its probably fine and I dont think you can break anything but better stay on the safe side

@InspiringTracks

I think it should work. Since boss pedals are mono I think they use only the tip and sleeve part of a stereo TRS connector. Of course if you are handy with a soldering iron you can make a TRS to TR cable specifically for this and it should work great

Agradeceria mucho tu ayuda, saludos!

Gracias Hugo! Saludos!

Great video man, I'm having trouble doing this on vocals but I just need to watch this over and I think I should be able to figure it out.. problem is im tryna use my Distortion boss pedal on my vocals, so I did buy a reamp box, but looks like input on my ProRMP reamp box is only an XLRf so ima need an XLRm to 1/4" adaptor. Also, the sound on the reamp guitar imo sounds better cause its a bit DIRTIER! I dont like that super clean sound, I like the guitar to be muddy and dirty, that shit sounds harder to me idk Anyways great vid man I hope you can help me if I have questions haha

I'm glad you liked the video!. If you only want to use the Boss pedal to add dirt to a vocal track then just plug the output of your interface input of to the pedal and the output of the pedal back to an input on your interface and adjust the levels. You don´t need to be super picky about getting the absolute perfect levels since what you want is precisely add dirt. Hope it helps!

The Boss pedal DID NOT sufficiently eliminate ground noise which could be heard within the first half seconds once the DAW started recording the reamped track. Most reamp boxes will significantly reduce the ground buzzing noise, but most do not completely eliminate it. Reamping through extreme distortion pedals for extreme metal will only make this buzzing noise much louder and annoying, especially on djent or muted chugging with lots of silence breaks.
@InspiringTracks
@InspiringTracks 3 жыл бұрын
No noise at all, a reamp box is better of course but this works just great
@tauvholiik7936
@tauvholiik7936 3 жыл бұрын
@@InspiringTracks Yes, what you recorded worked for the type of riffs being played with the types of distortion you are using. I have tried your technique with my gear and it does eliminate some noise but only slightly. I am building my own 6 channel reamp box with volume and impedance control knobs for a Roland GK2/3 breakout box of which other DIY breakout boxes do not use. But I use both the Digitech and DOD Death Metal Pedals which already requires 2 noise suppressors to keep silent. I use my Roland VG88 for its Virtual Guitar and Virtual amp for reamping back into impulse response pedals. I must eliminate all noise in DI and Reamp, and possibly a vst plugin (next agenda), without losing high fidelity so as to NOT amplify any additional noise

So... i can't use a Typic Guitar Cable to conect the Headphones out to the Boss Pedal? And i need to use the boss pedal with a batery? can i use a Power Supply?
@InspiringTracks
@InspiringTracks 4 жыл бұрын
No, dont use a regular guitar cable. The headphone output is stereo with a TRS connector and guitar cables are mono with TS connectors. If you only have a guitar cable you can use one of the mono outs on the back of the interface. Is a little less convenient but you can do it without problems. And of course you can use a power supply with the pedal. I used a battery just to avoid (more) cable clutter

Thanks so much for this awesome video. Question, what purpose does reamping the guitar track direct to the DAW serve vs just using the original direct signal? Only thing I can figure is that it will help keep levels consistent.

It’s so you can get a perfect take without running a loud amp the entire time and only reamp the take you want
@trevorcoleman9125
@trevorcoleman9125 Жыл бұрын
It lets you keep a performance separate from the sound quality / settings of the amp -- so later you can change the amp if you want something different in the mix without re-recording the whole part. You can also create huge sounds by taking the same clean signal and running it through several amps with different mic placements / distortion, speaker cabinets etc. On big albums a single guitar part might be reamped 8 or 10 times to create an absolutely enormous sound. Also re-amping is a way to use guitar amps / pedals as outboard effects in your studio. You can run a vocal out through an amp and then mix it back in with the dry signal to give it a raw live feel.

I think this would work but it can’t be ideal, some interfaces have balance only outputs, also there’s no transformer in a Boss pedal, the transformer steps down the line level signal coming out of the interface and converts it to a high impedance signal that your amp input expects to see. Also the transformer (a good quality one) should eliminate noise and hum. Not saying this won’t work, going straight from the interface to the amp will also work, again it won’t be ideal.

Definitely not ideal, but good enough for demos or just messing around. The good news is you've still got the clean signal, so you can re-re-amp it later with a proper re-amp box if you ever want a more polished mix.
