Well, it's not actually crash-free if it's not protected against crashes when power goes out during a BIOS update. For a totally crash-free BIOS, there should be two BIOS chips and a bootloader that's independent of BIOS and cannot be corrupted. The bootloader should check which BIOS chip has the latest uncorrupted (flash completed successfully) version and run BIOS from that. And the BIOS update process should be in multiple stages: 1/ write the flag "update in progress". The bootloader will check for this flag and consider BIOS bad if the flag is set. 2/ write the BIOS itself. 3/ read the BIOS back and verify the checksum 4/ write 0 to the flag "update in progress" to mark this BIOS chip as valid and ready for booting. 5/ a command to update also the second BIOS chip when the main has been tested as valid. In case if bootloader finds that both BIOS chips have bad BIOS, there should be an option to recover from a USB drive. Also, this should integrate the BIOS Flashback feature (which can be found on some boards) to be able to flash BIOS even when CPU or GPU or RAM does not respond properly (possibly because of corrupt BIOS). And please make it possible to also use USB3 flash sticks or mention in your tutorials that USB3 drives will not work and you need USB2 flash stick to update BIOS. Only when all of these requirements are implemented, it could be called "crash-free". And even then it might still fail. I have seen quite a few servicemen repairing motherboards that have corrupted BIOS despite all possible protections and dual chips and whatnot.

I have Z790-E mobo, my BIOS file corrupted when I tried updating to 0502 version. Few things I did differently which worked for me: 1. Completely shutting down 2. Removing the CMOS battery and waiting few minutes before reinserting 3. Restart the computer first and then plugging in the usb drive with the updated BIOS Few things to keep in mind. I used a usb 2.0 drive and renamed the BIOS file ASUS.CAP (this option is actually listed on the user guide) and inserted it into a usb drive on the mobo (not the usb drive designated for bios). Hopefully this will be of help to someone. I struggled for hours before I was able to get this to work.

Hello Romel, I have a problem with the DRAM light of the motherboard on: I feel like I need to update the BIOS so that the motherboard detects the rams, but for now I don't have any display shown on my screen. Is it safe using the CrashFree Bios 3 without being able to see anything on the screen? Or do you have to interact with something during the update? Thanks in advance

If you had a USB port designed for bios, why didn't you use the bios flashback feature to unbrick your mobo?

Questions 1. Checking to see if the motherboard "contains" ASUS Crash-Free BIOS 3 seems a little pointless. We have looked at the documentation and it states Z10PAD8 runs with that BIOS. 2. We need 100% certain ASUS model number and serial number. 3. BIOSRenamer is not present inside the downloaded BIOS zip file. 4. Do I have to run BUPDATER.EXE on the ASUS computer so that the CAP file gets properly renamed? Maybe "renamed" is the way the video says "creates a bootable thumbdrive." 5. Presuably magic happens when the renamed CAP file enhanced FAT32-formatted MBR thumb drive is in the jack when the ASUS computer is powered on. Maybe BUPDATER.EXE creates a bootable thumb drive? 6. We are not restoring anything, although that is the word used. What we are doing is copying the firmware from the thumb drive to the read-mostly memory where the firmware normally resides. 7. Are there additional steps needed to ensure every necessary update has been installed? 8. Maybe "recovered" is the way the video says "BIOS has been copied from thumb drive to computer."

i would also recommend remove everything from the motherboard, pci-e cards, extra memory sticks, and use a USB stick with an led indicator light. format the usb stick fat32, place the renamed bios file on the drive. put the drive in one of the onboard ports around back then power up the system. you should see flashes from the drive. Let it sit a few minutes, then power it off and plug the video card back in. I went from no POST, to a working machine.

Hello, I am installing the ******.cap file. I then get the message that the BIOS was successfully installed. Then the computer restarts automatically and it always comes back to the error message: BIOS Recovery mode has been detected, Please put the file ******.CAP…. I don't have the option to do F5 or anything else.

Thanks I had to dump the motherboard it would not get to the BIOS was to send back to the seller however I was overtired and scratched the CPU receiver so dumped it and purchased another which worked straight off the bat. Cheers Steve

Does this also work when an old BIOS Version does not support a newer CPU? I have an Asus Pro B550M-C/CSM and a Ryzen 5 5600G, both arrived yesterday. I tried this method yesterday and it does not seem to work for me. Does not seem to boot... I get 1 long and 2 short beeps, indicating an video card memory issue... but the only video card, is the one on the CPU. I guess this behavior is because the BIOS is outdated. Big problem... I wish MB manufacturer would provide a way to update BIOS that is completely separated/independent from the rest of the system, that would even work without CPU or RAM.

Hi, power went off in my city and when turning my PC back on I got the same message as in 0:33 . I carefully followed every step: choosing an appropiate flash drive, formating it in FAT32, downloading the right BIOS version for my motherboard, renaming it and uploading into the pendrive. But when I connected it in the PC and started it, the same message as in 0:33 would still appear. Help please, my motherboard doesn't seem to have any special usb-port for this purpose, at least it doesn't show in the manual. The motherboard model is: PRIME B450M-A

This isn't working on my ASUS Tuf Gaming z790-Plus WiFi D4, which supports Asus CrashFree BIOS 3. I need to do this because upon clicking "del" at startup to enter the BIOS I'm greeted with an infinite BIOS black screen. I've tried resetting CMOS Battery, unplugging GPU and using I-GPU, using 1 ram stick, and all to no avail. The only thing I haven't been able to do is update BIOS via AI Suite 3 because I keep getting an error code "AsIO3.sys Error Code 2: File Not Found," so I'm unable to download AI Suite 3 because of this error. Please help thank you!

@@TorHugo_ Hello, I was not successful. The only way to update the Asus TUF Gaming Z790 Plus WIFI is with a 13th generation processors. I returned the motherboard and bought a GIGABYTE Z790 AORUS Elite X WIFI7 on Amazon.

I bought an Asus Prime Z690M Plus D4 motherboard alongside an i7 13700k, however I do not know if the bios will come updated with version 1620 (needed for 13th gen CPUs) Can i use this method to update the bios (with the 13700k in the socket) to a version that supports the 13700k (>1620) or it won't work?

Please help. After installing ASUS Aura something happened to my bios and now my pc shuts off after running for 20 seconds. I tried resetting the bios using the jumpers and removing the battery but it's still happening. Any way to clean the bios before it goes to post? My mobo is an Asus Tuf plus gaming Z370. Thank you!

Asus prime b450m-a, ryzen5 2400g (integrated gpu only). My setup never showed post screens or bios, screen stays black until windows logon screen, works fine after that. I tried to update bios to the latest via ez flash, pc rebooted and i got infinite black screen without beeps. Tried without all devices and only 1 ram stick in A2 slot and cmos reset. Tried usb drive with renamed bios file, nothing happens after 30mins, crash free bios not working or i cant see it because of black screen. Not sure what to do next.

I have a brand new Samsung 64 GB USB drive that I used just 1.58 GB of and formatted to FAT32. I downloaded my mobo model's CAP file. Used the renaming tool. Copied to the USB drive. I've removed the GPU and so nothing is plugged into the mobo except for necessary parts like RAM, HDD, PSU & CPU. I've waited more than 10 minutes and tried every USB port on this beast to no avail. I'm thinking the USB ports aren't even getting power, because I have a known good wired USB keyboard that isn't getting the power light when plugged into it.

Hi there, is this solution for CORRUPTED BIOS ONLY? My problem is following... I have bought brand new motherboard Asus Prime A320I-K and CPU AMD Ryzen 4600G, after connecting all components I got black screen, just nothing. After a while of searching I suspect that BIOS version is old and not Supporting the CPU, so need to flash new version of BIOS. i am using h510m-k bios recovery not showing up no display. it just keep on rebooting about 3 to 4 times then after that it will remain on. fans are spinning but keyboard or mouse no lights. I tried to use diff bios firmware saved to different usb but still. this happens to me also few months ago. but i think this bios recovery using usb is more on trial error cmos reset and hard reset of pins of cmosrtc also done

After the bios recovery is finished via usb, it restarts and goes back to recovery. If I remove the pendrive and restart it like that, the "WARNING! BIOS Recovery mode has been detected" error message returns. I don't have any opportunity to enter bios after the recovery. What should I do?

My system works, I'm running on Windows 11, but I can't get to BIOS, it shows a Black Screen. I already tried reseting CMOS by removing battery, jumper in motherboard, it seems like it does reset because it asks me to press F1 to continue settings when I turn computer on, but still just a black screen. Have an ASUS ROG STRIX X370-F, updated to 6042 BIOS using the built-in BIOS utility EZ flash but during the update process the PC froze and it got stuck at 50%. Now after restarting the PC, the monitor show no video (monitor displays "no source found") and PC makes 2 short beeps, pause, 2 short beeps and CPU LED turns on. Rest of the components were tested in a completely new system with a new motherboard and everything works except the motherboard. When using the DVD that came with the board, PC does 2 short beeps, pause, BIOS beep post; but still has no video, Im trying to boot the motherboard with a Ryzen 5600 Could you help me out to find what might be the issue, motherboard does NOT show anything in screen and monitor, CPU, GPU and RAM are completely functional and tested with a new motherboard, is the motherboard itself not posting video.

A demás es un fallo de vuestra placa, porque el proceso iba bien hasta que a la mitad se reinicio solo y nunca volvió a arrancar y mi otro ordenador estaba encendido al lado y no fue tema de la corriente.

Re the quickness- I think most of the video is good just the place where you download the BIOS file then you rename it goes by very quickly almost just a snap I think that would be a good thing to lengthen with detail. Going from memory here those subtitles are almost hidden and do not linger long. I mean the subtitles mid video and a second one later on about getting in to the BIOS more. While updating the bios, (b450-f gaming) it crashed now will not boot. Will turn on, flash orange, the go to red and just stay there. No boot screen. Have cleared cmos, both jumping and battery. Have made a usb with latest bios in hope for the crashfree prompt would come up nothing. Tried 1 stick of ram, older ram. Re seat the cpu. Nothing plugged in (usb wise) just the usb with bios, power, gpu and have tried with and without boot drive. Still nothing. Any help or time for another board or new bios chip

@ASUS Support I know the cpu is fine worked before the bios crashed during updating. But I did reset it, tried my old one. Nothing. Have ran diffrent sticks of ram with just one stick both 3200mhz and old 2400mhz. Tried using every USB slot to see if it would read the USB doing start up but noting. Don't get light on keyboard or mouse and no video. Don't have a ps2 mouse or keyboard to try that. I do get lights on motherboard, gpu and waterblock. Push power orange light goes then goes to red and just sits.

@ASUS Support I have not been able to find a usb that 2.0 at the moment. It will show its plugged in, flash as it's reading then nothing (being read). I went to up date the bios from 3003 to current. Uploaded the current 5003 cap file to the USB, went to bios everything worked but froze about half way. I let it sit for 30 min and was at the same place. Know not to turn off but wasn't sure what happen. The board a strix b450-f v.1 and when last running bios 3003 on windows 11

So you have any knowledge on fixing asus prume b450? Was updating bios and it restarted in the middle of the process. Now keeps restarting back into ez flash 3 reparing bios and restarting again half way through the process. Progress bar keeps going to about half its length and restarts forever again and again and again. Tried so many things. Battery removing, ram sticks moved, only 1 ram stick, different bios versions and noth8ng works it does the same thing every time. Using usb stick 128GB formated to fat32 no problem ez utility recognise it and its size properly and the renamed bios file, it uses it to repair itself starts repairing and half way through the process (progress bar on about 50%) restarts and goes back to reparing again. Tried to wait (30+ restarts) but didnt help.

Was lucky it wasnt another mobo without such option. Jist fir future reference if any1 ever read it that mobo does flush without need for cpu or ram nor turning pc on at all

@@asus_support Hello. Yes, the yellow light stays on without blinking. And yes, I have cleaned the RAM and placed a single one in the A2 slot. It's hard to place in, I have to manually close the clip, but it's closed and properly in place. I believe the lack of display is because my processor doesn't have an integrated graphic, and due to the RAM problem my graphic card doesn't get to work (althoughit has energy and it's on). Still, I'll try to test with another monitor. My product model is an Asus Prime Z690-A. It says it was manufactured on the 01/2022, but I don't know how t get the bios version without accessing the BIOS. I have checked and the RAM I'm trying to use is on the list of compatible RAMS. For what I read online, the problem could be the bios version, but like I mentioned, I don't know if the update can be done via CRASHFree bios3 without a display. Is it required to press any buttons during the update? Thanks in advance.

@@asus_support Hello again. I already tried both ram sticks by themselves in any ram slot, clearing the CMOS, and they are still not recognized. Regarding the video, my issue is with the DRAM light, not the booting. And I'm aware of that CrashFree BIOS 3 is for update fails situations. But as I probably need to update the bios, and I can't properly access the bios (as my screen is black), I feel like it's the only tool by which I can update the bios. So I ask again, can the CrashFree BIOS 3 be used without screen display (just inserting the usb), and could it be used in my case to update to a more recent version ? (because I can see that in most of the bios updates it is mentioned that DRAM compatibilities are fixed). Regards.

Process presented here didnt work for me. Upgraded my CPU to Ryzen 7 5700x on my B350 Prime Plus, attempted to flash the BIOS to version 6062 using EZflash, system automatically restarted before displaying any sort of confirmation that the process had complete. Now I am presented with only a black screen with fans on max when attempting to boot. Followed steps as presented however no text is displayed on screen and nothing appears to be happening. Tried this process with all variations of components installed, down to just 1 RAM stick, and both the new and old CPU installed, I also removed Motherboard battery to reset CMOS, still nothing. Looking like the Asus provided BIOS update bricked my motherboard.

Video needs a update so you can slow some stuff down, not only that but it was so dumb I could not get pass the one point were press F1 as the keyboard did not show up. Best thing to do to do is just turn PC fully off take that battery out put it back in or do a reset on the mother bord helped me more then the video 😅

I have to return the Motherboard according to your people it has a problem This is great and thank you however the NZ Agent has not got back to me as regards an address to send it to. @@asus_support intially it started due to a failed update via internet, will not be doing that again. When I boot without a drive I get the repair message. When I insert a thumb drive, I come up with a blank screen, its not a no input screen, like it is getting some kind of image but nothing is displayed.

@@asus_support it's a rog strix b450f gaming. I don't know the bios because I can't get it to boot into the bios. I was able to get it to cycle to a blank screen with some signal output but now it won't even recognize a video card once a thumb drive is inserted but it will recognize it and post the repair error if there's no drive present.

Asus Prime z690-A with i5-13600KF, doesn't post anything or unclear how to enter bios set up (BIOS FlashBack functionality removed from this motherboard for some reason). You really fudged up with your mobo and software -.- Old motherboards in warehouses with old BIOS that are rendered unusable by average users with intel 13th gen. Will stay away from Asus, absolute joke.
