Ah finally!! It took so long to find a video like yours that actually shows how to walk with both legs equally weight-bearing with forearm crutches. I’m so grateful to you for making this!!

Dude, thank you for making this. I just got a crutch for my fibro pain and fatigue and couldn’t for the life of me find a damn video about walking with them that wasn’t about amputee life. Thank you 🖤🖤

How'd it work out? I use a rollator walker or cane depending on the day, but cane messes with my gait and walker is so bulky.

Thank you so much for this! There is such a need for this kind of content; its very hard to find! I spent so long considering wether to get forearm crutches because it was so hard to find information about using them for fatigue/chronic illness or gaits that are appropriate for those who are fully weight-bearing on both legs and just need some more stability. I've personally found my crutches very helpful and even more so thanks to your informative video!

I found this very useful. I’ve got spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, and facet arthritis. I mostly use a walker, but decided to give IV on crutches a try especially if I go to a relatives house where there are stairs involved, or if I need to go to a place where there are tight spaces and I can’t maneuver my walker about. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for vid. There are some super formal sounding videos by some physio therapists that make it all complicated. I just got forearm crutches. Although I am used to regular under arm crutches with no weight baring on foot since I have had a couple brakes. I want to walk, a walker is too slow and inconvenient, but just a single cane isn't enough. I have SCA (Ataxia). I want to walk and I hate using walkers if I don't have too. This video made it seem much more casual walking with crutches and that is what I was looking for.

Thank you for making this video! I'm gonna be getting crutches soon. Both my legs are in pain due to EDS. I already have a cane that I use alot but I need more support haha. Thank you for the video. They just sized me for mine and then sent me on my way with no instructions on what to do. Diagnosed with PPMS and I feel like once they got me to pain management and neuro everyone else just seemed to be done. It's sad when after 4 months on these things I'm YouTubing to find out how to walk without running out of breath and being in pain all the time!

@GenePavlovsky
@GenePavlovsky 2 жыл бұрын
Heh, same here. I broke my foot and I shouldn't put any weight on it for 6 weeks. With crutches, I'm able to jump around faster than an average person walks. Although it does get my heart pumping, and when it's hot outside, it feels like a cardio workout. Up and down stairs, I usually put the crutches two steps up/down, and then jump on the next step, so it's three steps at a time. Have to be a bit careful with this, though! The biggest gripes I have with crutches is that palms get pretty sore from all the pressure on the handles (better cushioned grips might help, I was thinking about wrapping them with gel handlebar tape), inconvenience when "parking" the crutches (a product called "XCLIP", a piece of plastic that costs as much as a pair of crutches, goes a long way in relieving this issue), and most of all, inability to bring stuff around in my hands. I just got another thing this week, called iWalk 3.0, it's like a prosthetic leg. It's quite a different feel from crutches. I am not as fast on it as on crutches, but the energy expenditure is lower, it feels almost like normal walking. Best of all, the hands are completely free, so it's very good for doing any kind of work around house, e.g. cooking, bringing things around. Pretty happy about it so far.

It seems like all the tips in your video are for a full weight bearing case. Both legs/feet are working equally, the crutches are used for balance and/or to reduce loading on the legs/feet. I am guessing you could also use nordic walking or hiking poles to achieve the same or similar effect. My case is non weight bearing (a broken foot), so the way I use crutches is completely different. I put both crutches forward, then hop with my healthy leg approximately the same distance beyond the crutches as where the foot was before the crutches. It's pretty quick, but both shoulders and the healthy leg are getting a good workout, i.e. it uses quite a lot of energy this way.
@bethc8809
@bethc8809 Жыл бұрын
Hiking poles don't have the same support. For someone like me, with hypermobile joints, a hiking pole wouldn't support the wrist at all. A full crutch can completely wreck the shoulder joint. Aligning support through a forearm crutch can help bear the weight in a way that doesn't damage the shoulder or the wrists.
@GenePavlovsky
@GenePavlovsky Жыл бұрын
@@bethc8809 Ok I understand. I was just commenting that your "how to use crutches" video is only applicable for some particular cases, not a typical case when full weight bearing is not allowed (e.g. a broken foot). Maybe it would make things more clear to be specific in the video title, e.g. mention "full weight bearing". Have a lovely day
