I like the chain. I can put a lot more fish on it since i poke the pin through just below the lip and put several fish on each of the closed pins.

I do not see the need to bleed out crappie or trout, as it doesn't change the flavor one whit. It also ruins the best and fastest way to clean trout.

Well, for Salmon, I use the chain, those rope stringers from the store are garbage when it comes to big fish, had a King on a stringer and it broke the ring

For smaller fish, rope stringer is fine, but I don’t use the ring anymore because that Salmon broke it off into the river somewhere, lol. I just tied a loop on the end

this may seem very obvious but once you get your first fish on the string stringer you can just keep sliding fish on without unlooping the first fish. you can fit twice as many on there and its easier. You might have a couple viewers that don't realize that.

Somebody said to put the spike through the bottom of their mouth instead of through the gills but I have always done it your way

I prefer the rope style for everything other than surf perch. For perch I clip the metal on onto a d ring on my waders. I like to poke the clip through the bottom of the mouth instead of through the gill plate. I am able to get at least 2 fish on each clip that way.

I used to use the rope stringer until I had a bunch of fish on it, the bottom fish gill ripped and I lost almost all my fish. I'm really glad I didn't kill them and they swam away. You can actually double up or triple up your fish on the clip style. Now I Ikejime, bleed and throw the right in a cooler. (Even Crappie) Haven't lost a one lately. Thanks for the video. Good to see the little guy enjoying things as God intended. Way better than a video game for him. You're a good dad.

There is also what they call a fish basket it is possible it has two spring doors on it that's another option to keep your fish to everything is good information still good job

When I was 12, i had a monster rainbow trout 4lb on my stringer, tied to a tree and the fish was in the water, all of a sudden there was a bubble , small splash, I went to check on the fish but couldn't get him out, 2 second later a huge snapping turtle riped him into pieces 😳 ..

Never put the stringer thru the fish gills. Definitely a no no.

I take the metal clips and put them on my rope stringer. Bigger fish go straight into the rope. Also if bank fishing use a tent stake to secure it to the shore

Paracord makes the best stringer imo. Tough as heck and you wont have to worry about the ring breaking or clip popping open if you have some big fish on.

I remember one time with my pops he decided to put some smaller gills on a stinger. We were fishing from a canoe look back at the stringer and there's a pike trying to inhale the bluegill stringer and all. Shit was wild.

I never use a stringer in the gills. Fish last longer and less stressed if you run the stringer in the bottom jaw

Why put it through the gills? It inhibits the fish from breathing, Just puncture through the soft tissue of the bottom lip. The fish will stay alive a lot longer. I see many videos on KZfaq that make the same mistake you are showing.

QUESTION: Is it better to dispatch your fish before putting it on the stringer if your out all day, or put them on the stringer alive and dispatch them later, either just before you leave the water or when you get home? I remember as a younger child putting them on alive in the lake, then in a bucket for the ride home, and dispatching them at home. I've only learned about bleeding a fish in the past week. Suggestions Please

Stringers are to keep fish alive without keeping a live well or ice chest. Don't dispatch them on the stringer until you can get them in a cold space so they don't go bad.

mans tortured the fish... if you’re gonna let it die there is no point in the stringer, it’s only there so you can release the ones you end up not keeping. if you know you’re gonna keep it just kill it quickly.

A chain stringer is too heavy for backpacking and the cord stringer's spike is too short to anchor in the rocks and gravel around the reservoirs, as well as the cord is too short. The other problem I had with cord was the first fish getting bound up in the ever tightening loop of the cord and ring. After a full day of fishing, that first fish would get torn through. I took one chain clip, knotted it to a longer parachute cord, and use a tent stake to anchor it.

When you're done fishing for the day, do you just clean the fish at the shore and then throw the guts in the lake and transfer them to an ice chest? Making sure I have everything right for my first time fishing.

If you put the stringer though the gills, it can possible kill the fish. The purpose of a stringer is to keep it alive until you leave. The best way to do it is to put it though the bottom of the lip. It allows the fish to live longer than putting though the gills.

The best is made by Bass Pro Shops - the ones where you have to slide a holder back, put the fish on and slide forward to close....99% plastic with stainless steel crimps - I attach mine to my tackle box. No rust - have had mine for 30 years. If you have a slow day and just put one on many times its swimming around and I can just let it go...catch does not have to be a kill

With the first stringer, once you catch another fish do you loop it through that metal ring just like you did the first time? Great video we've always done catch and release but if I can save a buck here on a meal I'm for it!

Word of caution! Rope stringers will lose fish If you catch a lot of fish because the weight of all the fish are on the first one caught. The weight and even the rolling and twisting of catfish can and will tear out the first on stringer and if you don't catch it in time you will lose a lot more fish because the others are not tied!

In a canoe, NE MN Superior National Forest... Caught a fat 39 inch Pike but first it dragged me around for at least 5 minutes.... then I put the chain stringer clip through the bottom lip and paddled around... no problem! Incidentally, the meat was tough and rubbery... I never keep the big/old/fat ones anymore...my experience is a thumbs up for chain stringers through the bottom lip!

7:30...Bleeding the fish? I thought the idea of the stringer was to keep them alive until you leave?

Generally, I like to fill a bucket with water, clip the gills, and put the fish in the bucket to bleed out. But if you don't have a bleeding bucket, you can put them on a stronger back in the water to bleed out. It's just cleaner than leaving them to bleed on the ground or in your cooler.

Don’t use the rope stringer for jack!(chain pickerel etc)..you can hook fish thru the lips to get more on each link..

I feel like these videos are fishing for dummy's .if we are watching we no how to fish we are looking for that extra that no body knows that's y I asked when kokanee fishing what depth are you fishing how you find fish not how to use a stringer 🤣🤣if I keep fish I keep them on ice just heads up the fish always taste better when put on ice water mixture. Question. A "fishing expert" keeps breaking his metal stringer EVERY TIME he goes fishing for the past 4 years. I've had my same metal stringer for over 25 years and NEVER had it broke. What's this "expert fisherman" doing wrong? Besides fishing like a dumbass ?😂
