I've not seen that happen before. It could be an issue with the dongle. There are direct USBC to USBA converters that you can get on Amazon or Ebay for almost nothing. I'd try one of those first to see if that fixes it.

@@JosephByrne 3rd USB cable made it, works like a champ. New to Mac and Big Sur, couldn't resist the massive marketing of the new M1 MacBooks so now I have work to do 😂. Nice channel, ofc I subscribe.

@@Braapncamp Nice one. In my experience it can often be the cable. Back when I had a 550 and it suddenly stopped connecting I tried everything, even a full factory reset and nothing worked. Then tried a different cable and it connected straight away. Think I wasted half a day on that.

@@JosephByrne Now I'm playing with changing old tracks and routes. As a macnoobe I need to relearn functions. I hope that you have som brilliant Mac/Basecamp tutorials on the subject.

The latest devices are capable of map and software updates over wifi. This includes safety camera updates which come with the map.

Have you updated to the latest version of Garmin Express?

That's what it seems like but that's not what happens. When the updates are finished installing in Garmin Express unplug the device from the computer. The device will reboot and there may be a message on the device screen about updates installing. After that the device will boot to the home screen. Once on the home screen reconnect the device to the computer. It will reload in Garmin Express and once again check for updates. If all updates are installed and it is completely up to date it'll say no new updates. If there are additional updates to install it'll prompt you to install them and go through the cycle again. Updates are cumulative so if you've not updated the device for a while you may have to step through the cycle several times.

@@JosephByrne Thanks for the reply! No it’s the factory cable I’ve used before. I’ve decided to make it the last Garmin I ever buy, garbage it, and use Google Maps. Not going to drive, buy yet another cable, only to troubleshoot. Great channel!

@@billytheweasel it is probably the cable. I've had that issue before. Macs are sensitive also. Google maps are not very accurate if you look at them properly.

It depends. The maps that Garmin release are ever increasing in size as they include more information so you may need a memory card to install a future map update.

@@TheLaughinginthedark Once you've installed it in the device it will appear as an option to install things to in Garmin Express. This video shows how it works when installing a new map. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mLqSg6R2xtOwaJ8.html With the card installed you can also send routes and tracks to it in BaseCamp. It appears on the left under *My Garmin Devices* within the device it's installed in.

jobybyrne I see the memory card in express where it tells you how much memory is left on the garmin and SD card. I read you can’t put stuff on the memory card until the garmin is full

@@TheLaughinginthedark That's not true. You can choose to install maps to it if you want and also you can send data to the SD card in BaseCamp.
