How to Use Gesso with Water Soluble Markers

In this episode, Cher shares how to prep your coloring book pages with white gesso so you, too, can play with water soluble markers on your existing papers. Cher uses a page from The Artful Mandala Coloring Book as her example. She encourages viewers to watch her previous video on "How to color with water soluble markers" for techniques on the markers themselves (which covers methods involving brushes, blending palette and mist sprays). She also gives you a glimpse of her creating a project from start to finish using white gesso (and don't forget, clear gesso is available).

I am absolutely loving what you are doing with your brush markers. I have just got a set of Tombow dual brush markers and have been practising brush calligraphy and also using them to colour my ink drawings. I have done many similar backgrounds to yours in the past, using Distress Ink pads to smoosh on my craft sheet, spritz and then pick up on the paper but I’d never have thought of doing this with Tombows! I love how you work on the background further, while you are colouring the image, so that the whole becomes harmonious. The end result positively glows! Your art work is so beautiful, and I feel really inspired to try this method.

Your book was my first mandala coloring book that I ordered and I love it ,but, I do struggle with background and this tutorial was exactly what I needed. Thank you for sharing!
