Ok so like most folks I was having issues with the airplay display icon not showing up - I doubled check my systems etc etc etc. I had my MacBook Pro connected to my iPad Pro with a USB C. I went to Finder, selected my iPad and clicked "trust." That allowed the airplay display to show up and gave me the option to share screen. Hope that helps for other folks still figuring it out

Yeah I also had the same issue, I searched, I updated, I rebooted, clicked everywhere, I've done everything but nothing worked (even the "trust" process)! My solution was found by clicking on "synchronize" in the Finder, by clicking on the iPad, like when you need to transfer images, music and stuff. Finally.... Spent the whole morning finding the solution gosh... And they say that Apple network system is easy to use. Haha sure.

Thank you so much! I'm teacher and my tech guy didn't know how to connect my iPad to my computer. I went searching for help online, including Apple page and the instructionn they provided did not help at all- few crucial steps were skip in their explanation, that prevented me connecting my iPad to my Mac. Is there a FREE way to use my ipad pro as a second screen for my 2017 macbook pro running mojave?? Via airplay maybe - just as I can do this on my Samsung QLED TV? I don't want to buy anything to do this now, as when I change OS to Catalina or Big Sur, this is available for free via sidecar. But still stalling leaving mojave because of the 32 bit app problem the next OSes have.

Justin, I am on my way to pick up an MacBook Air M1 and hook to my IPadPro (1st generation) for the second monitor. The IPadPro is running a recent version of IOS (15.3.1) and not sure on the MacBook (I haven't picked it up yet). Will newer versions work as well? I am assuming they will. Not a techy guy but your videos are very helpful

For me its not working even though I have the latest MacBook Pro updated and an iPad Air 3rd gen on iOS 14, and they're both signed into the same iCloud. The wifi and bluetooth and all are on but the iPad won't show up in the screen mirroring on my Mac. I don't know how to connect them pls help😭 also I don't think I can connect with the usb because the charger thing for the Mac doesn't work for my iPad Air 😭

My iPad Air (3rd gen) works well as a second monitor with my MacBook Air (2020) when it is connected via cable. I can't get to use it as a second display when it is not connected physically. It does not show up under displays. Any suggestions to get it to show up using bluetooth? Both operating systems are up to date. Thanks.

Great video man! Question do you think the lag you got while editing was due to the iPads capabilities? I’m other words do you think the new 2020 iPad Pro would work better for editing? I’d be connecting it to my 2018 15” MacBook Pro and premiere pro.

I’m not sure, but that sounds very possible! I haven’t test with an iPad Pro. Unfortunately don’t have access to one. I would expect that to work fine and I’d say try with the cable if there’s any lag.

@@Justin_tech I appreciate the video, but the background music is very distracting and unnecessary. There's no need to add music. Would you want that music playing in your ear when you're trying to learn something? If viewers want to hear music with your voice, they can hear any song they want with the click of a button. Background Music has hit youtube like the Black Plague. So sad.

It’s your Mac. You would need a (late) 2018 and later MacBook Air.

I do not have an "airplay button" at the top corner of my mac. Also, all this "sign in" stuff is overly complicated.I have a cable that connects my apple ipad to my apple laptop, one would think it easy to share screen, but I cannot. My workaround is to open a zoom session and share my screen using zoom. I would prefer to share directly without zoom. All I really want to do is connect my ipad to the class projector screen, but the cables require me to wire everything through my laptop.

Not supported. Need 2018 model or later. Hardware limitation due to the hardware encoder on the T2 chip.

I'm not sure if you will see this comment, but i want to use Evernote on my iPad with my apple pencil and have it show up on my MacBook screen. I want to be able to only share a single tab so that people I share the screen with won't see anything else from my screen or my iPad. Is this possible? Thanks :)
