For Shoryuken, you can use the following shortcut: While holding down, press forward + forward then hit punch button. Movement keys have priority between them, and F takes priority. So when you press F, it has priority. When you release it, D comes out since you've been holding it. Then you press F again, which makes the resulting movement input FDF. When you hit the punch, then Shoryuken comes out, nice and easy.

You can also press forward and press down while keeping forward pressed. After you lift down with fw still pressed and press punch. But you have to do the punch after you release down. So it goes: fw->dfw->fw+punch.

I like ASD+Space for movement, then R-Alt + the four buttons starting with P and the buttons below for attacks. This lets you use your right thumb and pinky. Really good for characters with a lot of negative-edge moves that require holding the buttons. Half-circles in the opposite direction you usually drum your fingers can be challenging at first but a few days of practice should smooth it out.

For some older games where there are no motion shortcuts for its motion inputs you must hit the diagonals which can feel really weird if you're not used to it, nail the timing and its great though. Nice vid!

Excellent content! I feel like I've improved my shoryuken input on keyboard. Another way to set up your movement keys is A S D and space bar for up. It's basically like a hitbox controller and allows you to do shortcus like SPD by pianoing /sliding on ASD and pressing space bar + punch👌

Great video and great tips. I've been using hitbox/keyboard for a years now and I find all this to be accurate. However, I recommend anyone who wants to use keyboard to use the following layout, A=left, S=down, D=right, spacebar=up, and then use your choice of buttons from the numpad like he showed.

Great suggestion, cuz it can solve some issue for certain move; becuz the middle finger is in charge of up and down which is hard to do certain combos

I will second this, though I will say if you play characters that have a TK move (2369) you're gonna want to jump with both thumbs. It can be difficult sometimes to roll your fingers and release down before hitting space, being able to roll 236 with your left hand and pianoing the attack button+jump makes the timing way easier.

Great to see your return! One thing I recommend is to better use mechanical keyboard than a membrane kb, due to the anti-ghosting key feature that mech kb has, otherwise you'll have some key lost input issues causing moves not performed correctly despite correct keys pressed, even as simple moves as DP (down forward+P or worse PP 4 keys pressed). Cheers!

Thanks a lot for the video! I used to play fightings ~15 years ago, but eventually moved away from them. And when recently I got interested in Riot's Project L and wanted to try it out when it when it comes out, I was not sure if it's worth buying a specialized controller for it (maybe I will just not like the game). But I had no idea if it's ok to use a keyboard for such games and how people do it at all, because I never did it. You've answered all of my questions. Thanks again!
@xdragon2k
@xdragon2k Жыл бұрын
For keyboard, you need to make sure your keyboard is a gaming keyboard that has anti-ghosting. Some keyboard are cheaply made that they are not allowing more than two or three simultaneous key presses at the same time. This can screw up your input if the buttons you pressed to do the moves aren't registering because they're not allowed by the keyboard to be pressed at the same time. Use a keyboard ghosting demo to check if your keyboard allows for simultaneous button presses for the buttons you assigned for the action buttons. If they are not then either change button configuration that will allow all of them to register at the same time or change keyboard to a better one that has anti-ghosting.

As a left-handed individual keyboard was my haven for 20 long years of arcade and RPG gaming, it's the optimal choice for me, i use arrows for mobility and QWE/ASD as striking keys. The only big issue you might have is grapplers' 360/720 motion. For old school arcade games it's near impossible to land those consistently without mastering certain shortcut hacks. For example for Zangief you won't trigger his spd with regular motion pattern, but rather i charge down and back then do a quick piano for the remaining 2 buttons + punch. Again, you would run into this kinda brain-cracking motions mostly with old school games such as sf2 and 3rds but for newer games there's alot of motion-tolerance characters. P.S: make sure your keyboard has the antighosting feature and ditch your laptop keyboard at the closest trashcan.

Wow - super interesting and cool. Ironically, I use Arrow Keys for mobility as well - even though I am right handed. I used to play the Piano as a primary schooler, and so my right hand's fingers were used to more complex, precise and fast inputs, whereas my left hand's fingers wanted something more routine (like playing the chords) - which I used to hit buttons. I like to play Dudley in SFiii / SF4, and so I needed a layout for my left hand where I have my fingers on ALL the buttons (atleast 5 of the 6) at all times so that I can unleash target combos on the fly - and so I made this funny layout for myself with Space (thumb), V (index) and F(midde) for kicks, and C(middle), X(ring) and Z(little) for punches. Although, I have almost exclusively used my Laptops' keyboards over the years because I'm lazy like that.
@GentlemanQ
@GentlemanQ Жыл бұрын
@@dhruvsharma6826 i see you're a man of culture too. The last part got me interested because i also use something similar with games that require only 4 button setup (ABCD) like KOF. I also use space for the D button and it feels super effective and my hand get much more relaxed. I'm gonna try to apply the WFVspace input rather than AWEspace, i have long fingers so that's totally fine but your setups looks more practical since our fingers vary in length. Way to go mate 👌. Oh and about the keyboard, you gotta try a separated antighosting keuboard, not too fancy a 30$ keyboard shall do the work. I tried many laptop keyboards even gaming laptop but they're just not up there, they keep skipping commands all time and the buttons are too thin and can easily break on the long run. But if you feel comfortable or found an interesting laptop keyboard i've never tried before that's great. Peace

Agree but you have to have a really stable spacebar otherwise it drops input often. If you have a keyboard like mine with a super wide space and the switch is in the middle it’s best to do WER and spacebar so your thumb sits in the middle. Then I use the numpad 456+ and 123Enter for my buttons

I prefer hitbox style layout on keyboard way more. DFG + Space for movement. And then either use numpad for attack buttons or setup YUI HJK for attack buttons so you can use space with both of your thumbs. Imo the latter setup completely trivializes something like 360 inputs from street fighter where you can just piano the GFD with your left hand and then press Space + Punch with your right

I started to play keyboard kind of recently but instead of only 3 fingers on direction I'm trying to to use 4 fingers; ring, middle, pointer and thumb - with thumb on the down key so I always have one finger on each direction. Right now I have mine set up to be in a sort of slope shape instead of the Tetris T-block, so on the a, w, d and c keys respectively from ring finger to thumb so that my hand is always in a relaxed and natural position to make it more comfortable to string the keys together quickly (though I think I'm gonna try switching from c to v for the thumb to make it even more comfortable for me).

For the half circle and forward you want to rock or roll your fingers and then press forward, think of it as the same motion as tapping your fingers on a table, if that makes sense. Just try it in game a few times until you get the hang of it, it’s not bad at all. 360s are pain tho, I keep a controller by me for when I want to use characters that have 360 motions, it’s hard to get consistent with using the up key in motion inputs, at least personally speaking. I even struggle with cammy’s hooligan combination sometimes because of it, not even mentioning instant dive kicks

Hi, a experient gamer that played alot fighting games here almost all of them on PC. I usually use WASD + UIOJKL(some shortcut buttom around) configuration, fireball and hori(DP), two direction charge comands are very easy on keyboard but is hard to make full circle, is almost impossible make 1080 degree from Tager's Astral or Blanka's Ultra Art in SFIV. Keyboard is one of the best controllers to me, very fast, very precise and dont make my hand suffer in pain like stick. But restrict to some characters and games. Some games you need make the diagonal.

I recommend main-ing the arcade stick, imo i think its easier to use in the long term and good with many games, and also if u ever visit game places, u can get on the arcade cabinets and challenge ppl lol

Since I grew up playing a lot of flash games I find it weirdly uncomfortable to use my left hand for movement. Instead I prefer my right hand in the arrow keys and my left hand im wichever buttons I feel more comfortable for that game, usually QWEC (I play BlazBlue a lot). However, recently I tend to use WASD just to build muscle memory for my right hand since I'm planning on buying an arcade stick.

KB plays pretty much like Hitbox, with the only downside that its SOCD depends on the game, for example on Fightcade u can set it the way u want, in other games like Skullgirls u have to set "-socdlikehitbox" in the steam launch parametters, in other games u cant even change it so relying in the usual Hitbox shortcuts isn't the best thing to do unless u know exactly how SOCD works in the game u choose Note: in some older SNK games u need to be really precise with ur inputs because if u skip a diagonal in a special move u arent going to get it.

Good to remind people that keyboards are a perfectly viable options, there are many players in regions of the world where controllers/sticks/boxes are prohibitively expensive, but anyone with a PC will have a keyboard. Sticks are ridiculous, inefficient, and t unergonomic holdovers from before people knew better. Started playing SF2 on PC on a keyboard, and watching people ‘invent’ hit boxes was a bit confusing, but it is ultimately by far the more precise input method and it doesn’t force you to hold your arm in an unnatural position. A well built stickless is superior to both sticks and a keyboard, but a good keeb can get really close if you use something like keys2xinput to enable SOCD, which really ups the bar vs sticks (unless you’re using something like Antagonist, but iirc those are now banned). My preferred layout on a TKL was to use ~,1,2 for L, D, R, space for jump, and the home, end, pgup/down button cluster for rest of buttons. Happy fighting.

I remember how quick it was to use the keyboard on Street Fighter Online (SFO for search purposes). Back in the day, I didn't expect to be up against a Level 90 Ryu, so I locked him down for as long as I could with my speed before my stamina gave way. G went "damn you're good", congratulating me for locking down his offensive for so dang long.

What kind of keyboard do you have? I find WASD, then 789.456 on the numpad most comfortable for me. I just have a normal keyboard and have no real issues with it and don't really understand the benefits of a mechanical, yours sounds good. I wish I could customize my keyboard so my numpad keys are slightly raised so I don't accidentally hit surrounding keys no mapped to anything

Is antighosting about all keys or just WSAD? I cant do any combos involving 3 attack buttons pressed at once because my keyboard only allows two at once +WSAD. Will getting anti-ghosting keyboard allow me to press three or more attack buttons too?

Thanks for the video! I am a keyboard player, but I found games like KOF really difficult because of how many half circle motions there were, and accidently getting DP when trying to do forward fireballs. Also when playing GGST, I struggled with the QCB + HCF motion. Do you have any tips for these? Great video, glad to see you're back!
@markrobertson1116
@markrobertson1116 Жыл бұрын
For QCB + HCF motion, piano the arrow keys as follows (when your character is facing right): down, left, left, down, right + attack button(s). If your character is facing left, just reverse it: down, right, right, down left + attack button(s). Essentially just combine the two motions he demonstrated in the video.
@chronology556
@chronology556 Жыл бұрын
KOF is so fast you’re bound to mess up motions even on a keyboard or Hitbox. I mess up hcb f a lot. On Arcade Stick I mess up both hcb f and double qcfx2. I don’t have issues with qcb hcf or qcf hcb on keyboard.
@JoystickNY

Yes, kof is very strict; i wished they reduce it alittle bit; and more forgiving with frames; cuz its alot of light attacks into super, and its alot of forward backward, i will make a video down the road on how to buffer command while doing certain combos, and it will help reduce time.

Hi, I don't know about kof but here's a trick that helped me well in games like 3rd strike & vsas to excute half circles with perfect accuracy. For a forward half circle, instead of doing forward, down, forward try doing down, forwars down. You will be surprised by this. As a Q player in 3rds, this has helped me alot to excute Q's command grab (forward half circle +kick) from a low parry! Now i can command grab from both high and low attacks.
