Was going to try leca because of my constant battle with fungus gnats !!! defo gonna try pon. Thanks so much for mentioning the fungus gnats as I couldn't find anyone mentioning it in their videos. Love & Peace 🌿

Aaaaaaah I’m going to try it! You’ve convinced me. Having just purchased a massive bag of leca, all of the self watering pots and nutrient solutions I’m kicking myself slightly that I didn’t look into pon sooner! I’m also a recent plant parent to a Thai constellation and 3 Monstera Albo Variegatas so super on edge about how they’re doing. Thanks for the great advice! Just ordered my first bag and looking for appropriate orchid pots to track progress

I love watching videos to assure me that I'm on the right track. I've had it up to 'here' with fungus gnats! I'm converting all my plants to coarse pumice using a diy approach. I have 2 anthuriums, syngonium and a peace lily in tall glass containers with well-rinsed pumice. There's a little water at the bottom but I much prefer a clear nursery pot and cover pot set up. Thanks for sharing!

how has this gone, michelle? has it solved your issue with the gnats?
@HappiCamper
@HappiCamper 2 жыл бұрын
@@MC-9 It did though I wasn't fertilising enough. I switched back to soil and was amazed at the growth but very disappointed with the soil quality AND the return ofthe gnats... I also had some vessels grow algae. I think when I next sort my soil out I'll put a decent amount of pumice in. Thanks for asking!

Hi, this is the second great video of yours today. I like your style very much. Have you tried mineral substrates for succulents, too? They are a way cheaper than pon and I prefer the bigger size of bims and lava rock. I grow my anthurium like you show and I grow my intergenera orchids and dendrobium in the mentioned kind of substrate with leca as a bottom sheet - semi-hydro. Good luck with your plants! 🌿🌿🌿

Love the video. Pon has become increasingly popular. I don't see many people talking about the cons of pon. It seems a bit expensive compared to soil which can make it inaccessible for some. Can you make a video on how to make it? Does it make your plants heavier compared to soil? Does algae grow in the pon? If the roots grow down into the reservoir, do you find that you lose a lot of roots when you have to repot? I'm about to transition my first plant to pon.

Hi this is all new to me. I have tried having indoor plants before and I have to say I’m serial killer of plants. As much as I love them I either water too much or too little.. But my friends recently bought me a plant for my birthday and I keen to try again…so here we go..I have been doing so much research over the past few weeks and I am very excited to try it, with the self watering pot system. Could you please advise if this pon can be used with ferns? As I have had issues with ferns in the past with pests and think the the benefits of Pon that you mentioned may be the way to go? Thank you

Do you ever propagate in pon? I’m trying to figure out how best to set up propagation in pon (in non draining glass with a layer of water in the bottom, in a draining pot that wicks up water, in draining pot that sits in water reservoir without wick etc.)

I propagate with pon. I put the plant in a plastic container that has drainage and I put it into a cover pot working as a reservoir for the water.

You basically need zeolite for good cation exchange and pumice for improved moisture retention and capillary action, and some other inorganic for aeration (Pon uses lava rocks as the 3rd ingredient, probably can be replaced with some kind of grit). Usually bonsai shops have their own similar mix. There's also the Seramis cactus mix, but I'm not sure how it compares to Pon.
