Restarted my plant collection this year. I got frustrated when the prices skyrocketed so I did some sort of sabbatical from plants from 2021 to mid 2023. Now I'm back! But where I am, we get a lot of tiny frogs, some slugs and a lot of insects. So I decided to pon-vert all my plants. Initially, it's cos I don't want to deal with critters. But now it's for the convenience and the results. My thai constellation loves it, my anthuriums love it, my maranta loves it, my begonias love it. Done deal. :)

OMG, I have never had gnats and I'm 53 and have had tropicals forever. I bought a few plants in Orlando and have had the worst winter with gnats ever! i transferred all my Anthuriums, monstera and philodendron to pon. They loved it! never seen so much growth! my A. regale which always put out 1 leaves at 1 time, now has 3 huge leaves! Lechuza pon is expensive, but if you have expensive plants - why not go to the extra mile right? the only plant that is not doing well with pon is my Alocasia mac. It could be lighting issue as i know they are outdoor plant.

Hi PJ, it is ok to rinse your pon, I just don’t have a problem skipping this step because, It will get rinsed as soon as I water it anyway and I do flush my pot again later as needed. If you are to rinse before you pot, make sure to only rinse what you need because the fertilizer that the new bag came with will start activating as soon as it gets wet, is what I heard as well. Then again, you do you and what works best for you. PS. I have made my DIY poles on one of my vlogs, check it out! 😁🙏🥰

@@plantandstylewithpeachy I'll rise the pon really good. I have it all clean and try in storage. I don't care about the fertilizer in it, since I prep my nutrition water separately. If you have an outside hose I would truly wash it well. Here in Germany we can get all sorts of Lechuza pon. Even without fertilizer. There is a lot of dirt in it. It even says to rinse it in German.

What do you mean "when it's ready to have a water resovoir"? I am new to pon and not finding a lot of information about using cache pots rather than self watering systems. I have a great planter collection and as I slowly transition my plants from soil to pon I'd love to continue to use them rather than buy a whole bunch of self watering ones... A video dedicated to using cache pots with pon would be awesome! It's surprising how little information there about that specifically. Thanks! Great video, and beautiful pots.
@plantandstylewithpeachy
@plantandstylewithpeachy 6 ай бұрын
I must be talking about using a wick rope with the reservoir. When you transfer from soil to pon, it will take time for it to wick up water from the reservoir using the wick rope since it is used to getting watered from the top. I recommend submerged method if you want to use cache pot. I have talked about this on my recent Hoya care in pon. Check it out! Thanks btw. Let me know if you have more questions.💚

Hello. Thank you for your videos. With regard to Lechuza, in six months the fertilizer is no longer viable. Can you then just use normal fertilizer pellets on put them on top or do you have to go semi hydro and use Hydro fertilizer. Hope this makes sense
@plantandstylewithpeachy
@plantandstylewithpeachy Жыл бұрын
You can use any fertilizer that is synthetic and not organic. You can use pellets like Osmocote but be very careful because if you put too much, it can burn the roots and kill your plants. I like liquid fertilizer like Dyna Grow Foliage pro 9-3-6 for mine.

Thanks for the video. Another video said not to water the pon for at least a week or two when you first transplant into pon as the plant needs time to acclimate to the pon. Do you agree with this?
@plantandstylewithpeachy
@plantandstylewithpeachy 3 ай бұрын
If the plant came from soil then I would wait a week but not 2 weeks, I think that is too long. Also, I have been getting 100% success with the “Submerged method” especially if the plant is from soil. I basically just let it sit in a little bit of water and refill as it gets consumed. This way, I don’t need to water from the top, the pon will wick up the water from the bottom and deliver to the roots. So much easier to transition.

Hi 👋 😊, Great video!! Ironically i just put my Burle Marx Flame tissue culture in pon as well. First time using pon! I potted her in a wicked self watering pot. My question is, since Monsteras like to dry out some! should i not fill the Reservoir like for 2 days or so if i notice she is drinking from the Reservoir? And if she not drinking from the Reservoir, how long should i wait to reflush/water her again? Not sure on how to notice yet when the pon is dry enough to do so... I will definitely appreciate your help since Ironically you just repotted your little Burle Marx Flame on this video!! Ty 🫶
@plantandstylewithpeachy
@plantandstylewithpeachy 10 ай бұрын
Hi, thank you ☺️ My burle marx flame took to my self watering pot set up very quickly. I would wait a week to flush it again regardless if it is drinking from the reservoir. On the second week, inspect if the reservoir for some uptake before flushing it again. Mine started drinking from the bottom right around this time, I think. If it is, then just fill the reservoir. But keep an eye on the pon just in case. It should be darker in color when moist and if it is lighter, flush it again. You can dig a little from the top to see if the underlayer is dry, and only flush it if it is dry. I hope it makes sense 😅

@plantandstylewithpeachy Thank you for answering me back!! 🫶 But OK, let's say mine is drinking from the Reservoir! Being that Monstera like to dry out... Should I let the Reservoir run dry/empty and after I see it's empty Should I leave it empty for a day or 2 days? My concern is if its constantly moist that root rot will set in!!? Verses Anthurium that they like there Roots moist all the time!! Lol it's so confusing 😆

Everything I read says to not water for 1-2 weeks after transferring to pon to let the roots assimilate to the new substrate
@plantandstylewithpeachy
@plantandstylewithpeachy 8 ай бұрын
I wouldn’t trust that 😮. There are many factors on when you should/shouldn’t water though. One, if you’re previous substrate is soil then I would water when the substrate is dry (depending on your environment, it could be 1 week or 2 weeks). Another is if your cutting is water rooted, then you must keep the substrate moist thus requiring more watering frequently than the previous. You see, it all depends on your personal situation.

Can somebody tell me if its bad for the plant if water got through the pon into the tank in the first 12 weeks of watering from above?
@plantandstylewithpeachy
@plantandstylewithpeachy 6 ай бұрын
I don’t think I understand completely. What tank? Did you mean the reservoir? If so, I don’t think it’s bad for the plant. I would keep water below to see if the plant is drinking it while still watering from the top during transition. The water from the bottom is my indicator when I can completely move on to watering from the reservoir. If the water is significantly less than what it started then it’s drinking it from below. I hope that makes sense. Let me know if you have any questions.

Once the plants are in the PON, what’s next? Not sure how watering is managed in the different types of pots-self watering, closed vessel, etc. Getting ready to transition cuttings to PON and want to do it right! thanks.
@plantandstylewithpeachy
@plantandstylewithpeachy Жыл бұрын
You’re right, there are different ways to care for it depending on the vessel that you use. Ideally, you want to get your cutting to get used to a self watering system/ with a wicking rope from the bottom. But to get there, it will take time (at least a month depending on the plant and growing conditions). I would set it up with the wick and self watering right away but continue to water from the top. I have had plants start drinking from the reservoir sooner and I know this because, my reservoir started to lessen and when that happens, you can start watering by just refilling the reservoir as soon as it is empty. If you are using a no drainage vessel, fill your water level 1/3 up then refill when it’s empty. If it is for a water rooted cutting, don’t let the water level dry out completely as you have water roots and you need to keep them moist at all times until you see new growth. That means that your cutting is already acclimated to pon. Good luck! Let me know if you need more help. 💚
