So today I go to the subway and all the machines say "cash only" I go to the booth and tell the attendant and she tells me that since I have a credit card I can use OMNI. Screen says "Tap Here", I tap with my fingers, I tap with 2 separate credit cards, nothing happens. The woman at the booth is right there and gives NO HELP at all. I finally go back to a machine and pay with cash. Another woman having the same problem tells off the woman in the booth. Attendant's response is "Hey, I'm just doing my job!" I'm thinking: Yeah, if your job is doing nothing and giving attitude!! Had to come here to find that it only uses credit cards with the WiFi symbol!

Not sure if this has been thought of, but will there be caps for, say, 2 journeys, 10 journeys, 24/48/72 hours of travelling, and season and subscription tickets, say, a weekly ticket, 4-week, 3 month and yearly ticket, or even a direct debit ticket? Perhaps there should be disposable OMNY tickets or tickets like a shop receipt with QR codes on them, available from bus drivers, ticket machines, bogedas, etc., for 1, 2 and 10 journeys, and for 24 hours (NJ Transit, Amtrak, CTRail, CT Transit, etc., should also use OMNY, as well as having a common fare system)
@JamesScantlebury3 жыл бұрын
Yes, there will be. See the omny website for more details.
@hihi2173 жыл бұрын
I don't know if they've talked about doing fare capping, but if they were to do that, that would be phased in 2023, when MetroCard is phased out for OMNY. As for having weekly and monthly unlimited passes, they've talked about having all the features of MetroCard on OMNY, so you'll still have that. They're not doing it right now because the majority of stations don't have OMNY, why would they have an unlimited pass that works for some stations and not others? I don't know if they'll have disposable transfers on OMNY, maybe only on buses, and maybe just local and limited ones, but this is very much speculation. I'd assume they'd decommission the SBS sidewalk kiosks, so the only place you can use coins to get on is the local / limited bus, as well as at vending machines / booths in stations when they roll out, but I have no idea if they had said anything about that, and again, very purely speculation. As for refilling cards and getting cards, they're going to have cards available at vending machines when they roll out. Also, they do have the current backbone of MetroCard retailers as well as they said they were going to have it at CVS, Walgreens, Duane Reade, Rite Aid, and other major drugstores utilizing the gift card model, and they said they were going to have OMNY cards available here before the vending machines. As for which mass transit companies who will support OMNY? Right now it's whoever currently uses MetroCard right now, NYCT (buses and subways), NICE, PATH, Roosevelt Island Tramway, AirTrain JFK and Westchester County's Bee-Line Bus System. As well, LIRR and Metro-North will have OMNY in 2021.

I think tapping at an angle, as someone in this video demonstrates, really doesn't work. I tried it for the first time, tapped a registered card at an angle, and got the TAP AGAIN message over and over. Ended up using a metrocard. Going back, I tried it again, and it worked. Not sure what I did right the second time. Maybe it has to be flat or parallel to the reader? If so, stop showing someone tapping at an angle, because it doesn't work.

I reported this to your support but you still haven't fixed it. The word "tap" means BRIEFLY gently touch and move away. This is not the behavior of your system. If you TAP, there system doesn't have the time to register. You want people to hold there device near the scanner and wait. The single word verb closest to this is PRESS, not tap. I bring this up because the terminology issue has led to dozens of people believing the system does not work, as they follow the instructions to tap the readers, but doing so causes the system to fault as tapping is too fast, so they receive error messages and can't figure out why. This terminology concerning the differences between tapping and pressing has been solidified by smartphones, where tapping and pressing elicit different UI interactions. I can personally attest to approximately 6 hours combined (including hold time) wasted with tech support by about 20 people all over this wording issue. The fact that many personnel in the station have no idea how the system works and cannot help troubleshoot (in several cases, no one physically present even knew what the system was) does not help this issue.
@JeffreyOrnstein3 жыл бұрын
I think this happened to me. I used it for the first time the other day. I tapped at an angle, of a card that I registered, but it kept saying TAP AGAIN. Don't know what I was doing wrong. Going back, I tried again. It worked. Don't know what I did right. I think it has to be parallel to the surface of the reader. On this video, they show someone tapping a card at an angle, like I did. Maybe it doesn't really work like that. Who knows....

I got accidentally charged 2.75 while I had my iPhone out near the turnstile. I just want to know how to get a refund? 🤷🏾♂️ Meanwhile I have 5.50 remaining on my Metrocard. 🤦🏾♂️
@TheRailLeaguer3 жыл бұрын
Dispute it with your bank. Also, if you can, turn off Express Transit if you can. These types of issues are mostly an issue with Apple’s system, not an OMNY glitch. Also, if your stations and bus lines have OMNY, why are you still using a pay-per-ride MetroCard when the OMNY system is right there. You can make the switch now if you want to.
@nlawson20043 жыл бұрын
@@TheRailLeaguer Once the charge went from _pending_ to _applied,_ I was able to click on it and dispute it, and got refunded. Also I turned on _verification before being charged_ or whatever it’s called. So now before being charged on my debit card within the _wallet_ app/feature, the iPhone will require my passcode and face ID.

Fare capping sucks. Not everyone starts taking public transportation on Mondays. Also, what about the 30-day unlimited? Being charged $33 weekly you spend more than on a 30-day unlimited metrocard. FIX THAT! I NEED THE 30-day UNLIMITED for the sane price of a metrocard. Omny 4 weeks (28 days) = $33x4= $132 Then 2 days is $5.5x2= $11 Total $132+$11= $143 30-day Unlimited Metrocard Total $127 With Omny You End Up Paying… $16 EXTRA (per month if you commute daily)
