How to Use Proxies to Edit 4k Video FAST | Adobe Premiere Pro CC Tutorial

Full HD and 4k Resolutions
- UHD(4k) 3,840x2160, recommended proxy res 960x540 or 1280x720, H.264 or Cineform
- "Cinema" 4k 4,096 x 2160, recommended proxy res 1024x540, H.264 or cineform.
- FHD (Full HD) 1920x1080, recommended proxy res 480x270, H.264 or cineform
To create a custom proxy ingest preset, go to File - Export - Media and create a new export preset in the dimensions I recommend, then it will be saved with a ".epr" extension preset.
From your Ingest Settings import the custom ingest preset, search for the name of your preset with the extension ".epr" on your computer to locate the proxy export preset file.

Proxy editing is simple! Check out my description for different resolutions and recommended proxy sizes. Just be sure to ingest all your clips with their proxies attached as I show in the beginning then you will rock your edit. When you are ready to export you don't need to click the proxies off with the blue button, as the Gal says. Premiere will always use the full resolution files for export no matter how this button is toggled.

Yes. At 7:00 she also selects "full" in the Program Monitor before exporting & says so! These have nothing to do with the Export. It is extremely misleading.

I tried doing a 4K vlog once. Of course, I was under a time constraint. It was the most painful thing I've ever been through and I eventually ended up scrapping it and starting over in 1080. I might have to try again though armed with this. Thank you!

A small technical correction: dividing both horizontally and vertically by 4 you get 1/16th of the original size.

Very helpful. Shooting in 8K and trying to do some frame zooms and pans. This proxy system will make this easier to do! Looking for 4k and HD final output. Need the 8k to allow the frame zooming.

+ once you are done and want to export if you find issues and you have a large 4k.content with a lot of effects noise cleaning color grading etc.. on it, it won't even render if you click export but to solve that simply click queue instead of export and Adobe Media encoder launches and done ✅.hope this helps some one

It truly depends on the shoot. I have an 8K video camera and my cell phone shoots in 4K so I do it all. 8k, 4K and 1080p. So this is going to be a godsend. Will allow me to edit on my slaptop.

I output in 1080 because it's what the majority seem to be set up for in playback.

Truth! I think Facebook is still at 1080p. Also in a lot of regions people pay by data, and if you stream 4k, it eats up all your data and costs a lot of money.

Or just save the raw footage unedited. Then import saved (raw footage) to time line once saved. Best for non premier pro users, with a slow pc. Render takes about the same time.
