Slow Computer? EDIT SUPER FAST! Premiere Pro Proxies Workflow

If you have a slow computer... or an apple computer... Adobe Premiere Pro might not work too smoothly when you're editing. By following this Premiere Pro Proxies Workflow tutorial, you can fix that and edit super smooth! If you want to edit faster, this is a must!
Video editing can be a pain if your timeline doesn't keep up with you. I find when I shoot in 4k using my Sony cameras, Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2019 has trouble reading the files in the timeline even though my Macbook Pro has a good set of specs and the files aren't that large. Unfortunately, this is just part of being a premiere pro editor on a MacBook (or a slow or older pc). Proxies allow you to make smaller and more easily readable files for Premiere Pro to display while you're editing. By using the toggle proxies button, you can switch between your full-resolution media and the proxy files. When I'm editing, I don't necessarily need to be looking at the full 4k resolution during the edit so 720p does just fine temporarily. At first, I didn't believe it would help much, but now I know exactly how much time it can save to have a smooth timeline (hint: it's a lot of time saved).

This is fantastic. I'm not editing 4K but my computer is having a hard time with almost lossless screen recording in 1080p due to large file sizes, so it's amazing to know that I can actually edit without having to lower the overall quality!

Same here, it doesn't have t be 4K. Mine was laggy (especially when getting towards the end of long videos I was editing) just on 1080p if it's using HEVC at a pretty low bitrate.

This was so helpful. I tried using the stock settings and was wondering why I was still getting a lag. But after doing it this way it is smooth as butter. I followed this to the letter and it's the perfect guide! I noticed that creating my own 720p proxy ingest preset made the creation of the proxy a lot faster than using one of the built-in presets, that also don't have the "PROXY" effect overlay. Cheers Dunna! EDIT: I thought it was too good to be true... now it's cutting out huge chunks of audio on the proxy version in Premiere - making editing it impossible since editing when there's talking is all part of my editing. Back to just struggling along with the original file, sigh. This cutting of audio happens when I export too but I always export a WAV and drag it back into Premiere, that fixes it... I can't do that with the proxy version since exporting exports the original file. Plergh!

Hi, when i am clicking "Create Proxy" on the clip and after choosing the location, the Media encoder doesn't automatically open the file for rendering. The Encoder opens but the clip is not on the queue. What do i do wrong?
