It's much worse when using loops from loopcloud, everything sounds so small and lifeless. But fortunately this workaround makes me be more creative in how I use those loops. I hope this video has given you a few ideas to use with your Syntakt 😊

yeah. that would be great, but ram is too small. lets hope for a 2nd version one day. they count on the octotrack for better sampling capabilities. would love the digitakt to do also sampling at start of recording, not only with threshold.

Even if they allowed us to choose left, right or combined left and right for a sample file that would make a world of difference. I would love to be able to set recording trigs or have residing in sync with the pattern somehow!!

You should check out the app linked in the description, you can bulk prepare samples just by dragging and dropping, which I find really useful. I do wish the Digitakt was made to allow stereo but we gotta do what we gotta do I guess 😅 I would buy a stereo Digitakt in a heartbeat. I love my Octa but the new machines in Digitakt are just too tasty!

@@HelicopterRidesForCommunists look up tempo to bpm converters. the new ability to record a certain number of steps allows for some nice stuff. you can record a perfect loop with the werp machine, and then slice it

Digi can’t sample stereo.

Yes, like Ivan said. Unfortunately when you sample a stereo track into the Digitakt it squashes it down into a mono sample. So the stereo effect will be mono (and potentially have phase issues) 😢

Sorry for my late response! Unfortunately you can't do that because the Digitakt will squash the recording into a mono source. The same goes for when you place a stereo sample into the hard disk, both channels will get squashed into one mono track. Currently the only way to separate the left and right channels is before you put it into the Digitakt by putting them into separate files 😕

It all depends on what your source sample is, when we split a stereo sample into two files we are creating dual mono files that can be panned left and right to recreate the full stereo experience. Without doing this manual process the Digitakt will squash the left and right channels together and treat it as a mono source. You could have the same mono source on two tracks and pan them left and right and tweak them independently to create a stereo image. That's how other tools do it, the Octatrack stereoiser for example does this using a micro delay on one side to make the sound wider.

@@tinygregmusic yes, therefor I find your approach and suggested app very useful to recreate the ‘original’ stereo field (including the effects like delays, phasers etc.) 👍🏻 When creating a ‘new’ stereo field we could also use one (dry) mono sample and pan it into the mix -or- assign it to multiple tracks and get even more creative like you did.

That's absolutely correct 💯. You may need to check for mono compatibility after using the same mono source for both left and right channels. If the end listener is listening in mono or with speakers close together then sometimes the waves cancel each other out due to phasing and things can get quieter or have some unexpected changes in certain frequencies. I should have mentioned this in the video actually 🤔 I'm still learning to make videos so I sometimes forget details

First of all, I think you did great!! For me this video has the right amount of detail / depth. It’s more than well enough explained to grasp the key concepts 👍🏻 And, it’s also good to have a discussion afterwards, that’s also part of the process. In my case, I simply will not try to use the Digitakt as a stereo sampler by the use of external computer software. For that I would use for instance my Maschine+ or an iOS app like Koala on my iPad. They allow me to reproduce the original stereo signal, do some looping, slicing and dicing. The power of the Digitakt are it’s creative capabilities, which you’ve demonstrated in a way that absolutely inspired me. So again, thanks! Looking forward to your future videos 😉 Ps. regarding the ‘mono compatibility’ of a sound source, therefor I would use / choose the left channel and/or mix the two stereo channels into a single ‘hard panned left’ output channel. Maybe you would like to do a video on that one…

Thank you buddy 😊 I really appreciate the feedback! By all means if you have a sampler that can do stereo samples already then there's no use performing this technique. I have an Octatrack which I could use for stereo sampling but I find the machines in the Digitakt (werp in particular) very fun for chopping up loops in ways I wouldn't think to do. And so I'm forced to use the Digitakt like a 4 track sequencer haha 😂 Maschine+ looks really awesome, I would love to try one out some day. I'm a big fan of Native Instruments
