How to use Structure Blocks | Basics | Minecraft Tutorials Java Edition 1.16+
This is a Minecraft Tutorial made in Java Edition 1.16.1 (This has not been tested in Bedrock Edition (xbox/ps4/switch/win10) and will most likely not work or work differently for those editions as the game mechanics are a bit different).
In this video I go over some of the basic functions of structure blocks to create a simple and cohesive how to use structure blocks video. Structure blocks can be used to copy and paste your builds around your world or shared across your different worlds.

I wish Minecraft did more to advertise features like this. I’ve been working on a city on and off for over 4 years using no mods, just commands like /fill and something like this would of tremendously came in handy multiple times. I don’t understand why they have such a useful feature they tell no one about.

I think because Minecraft want players to be creative and create the things by themselves and they think that it is a lot more interesting, fun and challenging. But I agree too that why this feature is hidden!

this is actually great for making custom forest, you would just need like 6-10 designs then use the structure blocks to quickly fill in large areas. great tutorial!

I have wall around my seaside village that has a very large and detailed dual-towered gate. I wanted to clone it over to the castle wall/compound but needed to rotate it 180°. Your tutorial about structure blocks was a life-saver. Thanks so much for putting together such an informative video.

Very helpful. I'm trying to build a volcano, but I want to have a larger canal area between my island and that, so I just wanted to pick it all up and move it 30 or 40 blocks instead of tearing it all down and hoping it looks right when I redo it lol

i really REALLY wish it had an UNDO command once youve placed something, or a better preview. i always seem to have the front door facing the wrong way, or its 1 or 2 blocks too high or too low. great tutorail, did you mention how MUCH or the size limit and/or could you do another video how you would save/load a LARGE build.

6:56 I saved several sized structures with nothing but AIR so that if I need to destroy what I just pasted I can just load my AIR structure blocks save. I named them according to their sizes, e.g air 10, air 25, air 64 etc. That way I don't have to manually destroy a huge building by destroying block by block.

i have a question, how do you place a structure block, preset to load a certain structure you have made in a certain way using /setblock... like I want the block to load "room1" with a relative position of -2 1 -2 instead of it being on the corner of the structure

This sounds like you’re trying to do two different things. As far as I’m aware, there is no command that does what you’re saying. Secondly, the structure block doesn’t have to be in the corner of your structure when you save it. Additionally, you can change the relative position of where your structure loads in so none of the above matters anyway.

on playstation there are 2 options where we can save it, one is save to disk but i forgot the other one, do you think this means the other option can be used to copy things between worlds

If you mess it up it’s an easy fix actually. Look at the corner block of the build itself beside the structure block Type /fill then hit tab three times and hit enter. This should enter the coordinates of the block you’re looking at. You’ll get an incomplete command message, but that’s normal. Go to the other corner and open chat. Hit the up arrow on your keyboard and hit tab three more times, type in air and hit tab one more time. Then hit enter.

This would be more like an alternate solution to putting a band-aide on the problem than actually reverting it to its original state like an "undo" process would do. While yes, there's more than one way to fix an issue, this is not what i meant in the video and is not specifically related to structure blocks as it falls more into game commands.

I'm not sure that's possible unless you've previously saved an original structure as a structure file. Otherwise your structures folder has nothing to draw from when loading. Again, not sure as I've never tried but as far as I'm aware, it doesn't work that way. maybe you're thinking of command blocks?

It will copy anything considered an entity but I don’t know if it will hold onto trade information specifically. Something you’ll have to test I guess.

Is it possible so that the blocks only replace air? Lets say I have a volcano that I want to spawn in the world. I don't want the volcano to replace blocks, except for air and liquids. Is that something I can specify with the structure. Like the anti-void or something?

Not that I’m aware of. It sounds like what you’re looking for would involve command blocks.

I am having a problem where it keep saying Structure 'minecraft:mappers' position prepared instead of loading it in did I do something wrong it is an nbt file called mappers

Is mappers what you named your file? If so than that’s normal. I explain in the video that loading is a two step process. I show you in this video that when you hit the load button the first time that it “prepares the position” of your structure and that you can confirm it’s possible before loading it in. You have to hit the load button a second time to finalize the load the process. Please rewatch the video and pay attention.
