Optimisation here, maybe worth calling out in the video - you don't need to download the app first. Scanning the QR show at 3:36 will automatically prompt you to install the Switch to Android app, and automatically provide the right connection details to pair the two devices. Tested this myself just now, using the QR code shown in the video, and the one code handles the download, install and connection. Makes it a lot simpler than going and finding the app first, etc.

Actually android automatically updates during setup, just connect to wifi or mobile data and it will check for updates. But you might not need an update, and the cable will always work if you have USB-C iphone or a USB-C to USB-A adapter or hub.

There is no app, it's built in your Google App. When you get the new phone and transfer it, it will automatically connect to your old device

NO! For that you will have to transfer your game data over from iOS to Android granted that the game is available on Google Play. I'm getting ready to do the same.
