In this video, board-certified pediatrician Dr. Arunima Agarwal breaks down the Ferber method for sleep training. This popular technique teaches babies to self-soothe over time by setting a schedule for how often parents should intervene if they cry while trying to fall asleep. Dr. Agarwal shares the suggested sleep schedule for the first three days as well as how to comfort your child at the recommended times, without picking them up.

On Day 1 Should this be practiced for one of the naps or all naps?

What do you do if your baby stops crying within the set time frame of 3 minutes? Do you stop the timer and then start for the 5 minute when they cry? Or do you still go check in after the 3 minutes if they aren’t crying and start the 5 min?

What about in the night when they wake for a feed? Do i feed and then start again with the self settle method?

And what do you do when your child can’t be consoled just by rubbing their back, etc (until they are picked up again?)

You just go on with this method. We don't always expect the baby to be calm after your quick visit. Most of the time, they'll continue crying, but at least they know you're there

How long do you let them cry before picking up . My baby cried for almost 3 hours and is it ok to tell them cry that long ?
