Beginner's guide to using the Gradient Mesh Tool in Adobe Illustrator CC 2019. The gradient mesh tool can come off as scary, and complex, to some users. Contrary to common sense, there is a right and wrong way to start using the tool. The tool requires very specific steps in order to have a successful, smooth, mesh come to life. These are the beginning steps to learning how to use Gradient Mesh. Check it out :)

Now (4 yrs later) you can create the center line first then use Path> Offset to make the 2 sides (I tried it, it works). Then it's just a matter of adding points to make all three lines equal, then connect them with lines to make one mesh for the candy cane. But the concept is still the same. ;)

It.s a long way, I actually discovered that in a short way and I was crying because it was super easy but I was at work at that time and forgot to record that process and then I forgot those steps literally my head is spinning and feeling regret why I did not take screenshots at least it was the answer I was searching from last 4 years, although this was also my concept as I said earlier it is very looooong and precise work. anyway, good work keep it up you will get more subscribers. peace

You have to control click the eye ball of the layer your mesh is on, which will allow that layer to be viewed in outline mode

are you on pc or mac, because mac is command click, also what version are you working on, ive never had an issue with seeing outline mode on a layer :(

its not as easy as it looks but im sure Ai will one day beat this process, but i dont think that will be the case for a bit. The ability to have a workable vector is very important for professionals looking to print large format and other applications.

haha yea no problem, I like that tool too for most things, just limiting compared to mesh but free form gradient makes life easy.
