This video is to teach you how to use the grid method for beginners step by step. There is no timelapse on this video. I take my time showing you how to draw your grid on the reference photo, and then on your drawing medium. In addition, I will then demonstrate by transferring an image from the original to the drawing paper.

Hi Rix, Thanks. The way I do it is starting from the center, draw the X and Y exis and from the center divide the exis starting at 0 (center of the exis) and draw the parallel lines (horizontal and vertical ), normally I use the with of the ruler to make it easier to draw the parallels, and you do not have to fill the entire page. Saludos

LOL! I take on short-term contracts. Looks like I've got a new one for 3 months so we'll see what happens.

The grid method has brought me to my current level of realistic drawing, I’m struggling with applying darks mid-tones. I’m trying to learn from your tutorials how to decide what level of graphite to choose as the darks, ie.6B darkest B mid tone, highlights the white of the paper. I’ve tried this but, am I wrong trying to add these 2 distanced 6B to B, is it not realistically “doable”? I purchased Bristol paper but I think I might be overloading the graphite and making it more trouble. So many questions and so little time. Thank you again for posting I look forward to each new one!

If you really want to push the realism you need to push the contrast. That means going well beyond 6b, like using charcoal or carbon for your darkest areas.

Insightful video, thank you! Also, that tool you use to measure the space between lines, what is it called?

Hi Rix. I was just looking back at some videos you did 2 years ago and enjoyed the video showing the drawing of you and your wife. Is the video only in 2 parts because it ended with you starting to shade your jacket and I can't see a video that continues from that and shows the final drawing 😊

I'm not a big fan of drawing from a phone or using app grids. All I can share with you is how I do it and that's by printing out a black and white image and drawing my grid on the image. I would go crazy if I had to rely on drawing from a computer screen or phone.
