Does anyone know what's actually happening when you select the travel mug setting? Is it making a larger size? It would seem like you could accomplish this on the 4300 or 3200 by making a double. I haven't found any info yet on this feature.

Hi Kerry, The travel mug function allows you to access closer to approx. 12.2 oz. You could achieve a travel mug in the 4300 for example, but you'll need to brew two beverage. Cheers!

I would have liked to see more the travel mug as it differentiates the 5400 series from other models. Like how large of a travel mog can fit in the machine? What drinks are available for travel mug setting? Why cant you just specify travel mug in the amount settings available on standard menu. Unfortunately, I was in the process of blinking when it was demonstrated in the video and i missed it. 🙃

Hi Karl, thanks for the comments. Great question. The travel mug function is a beverage selection on its own. It is a longer coffee to accommodate a travel mug. For example, you cannot choose a flat white travel mug. Your choice would be travel mug and you can adjust the volume and strength. 12 beverage options: Espresso, Coffee, Americano, Cappuccino, Latte Macchiato, Flat White, Café au Lait, Caffe Latte, Caffé Crema, Ristretto, Espresso Lungo, Travel Mug Function, Frothed Milk, Hot Water Cheers! Hi Tom, Yes, the froth consistency will be the same. You can choose the milk volume. Keep in mind different milks dairy vs nondairy will froth differently depending on the fat and protein make up. Warm-up is only about 90 seconds from a cold start. After 90 seconds you can begin preparing hot coffee, water and milk-based beverages.

My EP5443/90 seems to be jammed/stuck but not in the way anyone would imagine - when I use normal coffee (second option) it gives few seconds of normal flow and then starts drop-by-drop like its jammed, takes 3-4 mins to fill my cup up, so by that time its not that hot, but it flows fairly normally when trying espresso (first option). Fairly, not great. I tried replacing filter, washed brew group (or what that thing's called from the side), still same problem, tried without filter, same thing. what else? machine is just few days old and was doing this from the start

If you are using an oily coffee bean this can cause the machine to plug up. Oily beans are generally shiny and sticky and are not recommended in any super-automatic machines. You can do a search on Google for more details on Oily vs. Non OIly beans. This might be the cause of what you are experiencing.

Remove the brewing unit out and rinse it just as shown in video marker 7:10. Dry the brewing unit thoroughly. Clean the inside of the machine before replacing the brewing unit. Do not use preground coffee. The powder will clogg the machine. Only use beans and let the machine grind it.

is it easy to just greb the milk froth thingie and put it in the fridge? wish i t was bigger. filling it every time seems annoying, and it'd go bad outside.

Hi Amelia, great question. You can keep the carafe in the fridge for a shorter period of time. The spout is opened, so for longer storage time, you can simply pour the milk back into the milk container in your fridge and then toss the LatteGo carafe into the dishwasher for easy cleaning :) Thanks for commenting, I hope you have a great afternoon. When you select an "extra shot" option when making espresso, how is that different from selecting the 2-serving option (double shot)?

Hi there, If you choose an extra shot for espresso there is not much different than selecting the 2- serving option. The extra shot function really comes into play for other beverage choices like cappuccino for example. The 5400 will grind and brew twice, yielding two shots in that one cappuccino. Hi there, you must ensure on the strength setting you are selecting the bypass option. You have to scroll down all the way to the bottom on the strength option, this will inform the machine to use the bypass chute instead of grinding fresh beans. Thanks!

I have a question about using the “ground coffee” option.when I do as indicated the coffee just drips out of the dispenser. It literally took 5 minute to get a cup of coffee, what am I doing wrong?

Hey there, it sounds like your ground coffee is too fine. It should be similar to the consistency of table sugar... any finer, the water cant absorb into the fine grounds well. Thanks!

It's like Philips added and took away functionality and customization at the same time. On the 3200w/iced coffee you can make ice coffee with the specialized brew routine that brews at a lower temp for a longer period of time. It lets you do single and double shots while still controlling the brew strength and amount of coffee. Comparing to the 5400 based on the videos I've seen. You can adjust the strength of 1 shot but if you want a double shot you lose the brew strength customization per shot and can only control volume. This doesn't have the ice coffee function as well. I'm not sure why they made these changes. I was about to buy this one til I realized the loss of those functions from the 3200w/Ice Coffee model.

Hey Rusty, Thanks for the comments. The 3200 EP3241/74 has cold brew technology, and that beverage replaced the Americano on the 3200 EP3241/54 version. With the 3200's you cannot access a double shot the same way you can on the 5400 model. On the 5400 there are 4 user profiles, 12 beverage options (all hot), and an extra shot function. The extra shot function will brew an extra shot of espresso in certain beverages. For example, a cappuccino with an extra shot for those who love an extra bold-tasting beverage. Hi Alex, The 5400 model does not offer cold brew technology. You can view the 3200 model that offers a cold brew beverage - www.consiglioskitchenware.com/products/philips-saeco-3200-lattego-fully-automatic-espresso-and-iced-coffee-machine-ep3241-74 Otherwise, you can look at the DeLonghi Dinamica Plus machines or the Jura Z10, those have cold brew technology. On the 5400 you can brew your beverage and toss it in the fridge to chill it, this way you require less ice while maintaining the trew flavour profile of the drink. Ciao for now!

@@Consiglioskitchenware The 4300 also has the extra shot functions according to the manual. Could you confirm on the actual unit? I'm trying to decide between the two currently as well. Looks like the 20% premium will enable +2 User Profiles, +4 Beverage Options, Slightly more height clearance for larger vessels, increased water dispensing to fill such vessels, Color Display Upgrade Trying to talk myself out of it but you guys are making it hard. hahaha. There is currently a free gift filter on your website as well. My wallet is not safe.

Hi Amel, Always avoid oily espresso beans with any automatic machine. The excess oil over time builds up in the grinder. Usually flavoured beans have a lot of excess oil. You can tell this is the case if the beans are very shiny. Here is another video that explains this in more detail -kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ecCJjapkm7DNk4U.html The units have a bypass chute. I would recommend buying that flavoured coffee in preground form, then use the bypass chute for it :) Have a great day!

Hey there, that is a good question. It depends on the style of beverage being made. For a coffee, machines generally max out at approx. 6 - 8 ounces. If you are looking to fill a large travel mug, it is suggested to brew 2 or 3 times to ensure a full-bodied and flavourful end result. The more the water that runs through the coffee, the less intense it will taste. So, by brewing numerous times for very large travel mugs you can get a tasty end result. Thanks.

Hi Cora, The unit has a bypass chute for preground coffee. In the strength menu of the beverage 'scroll' all the way down, this will siginal the 'bypass' to activate, ensuring the unit will not grind fresh beans for your shot being brewed. Hope that helps. Ciao.

Cleaning inner mechanism isnt as close as easy as shown here. It takes about 20min to clean and gease. You were warned 😅

Hi Moj, Thanks for the comment. That is not common feedback we get. You can easily remove the water tank, then open the door to access the brew group. Rinse under tap water to remove any build up of espresso grounds. This takes about 1 minute or so. Then you can shake it off to remove as much water as possible. Place back into the machine, close the door and add the water tank back. You do not need to grease every week. That can be done as needed or about once every few months or so. I hope that helps.
