I modeled up a meet and greet space for an event we're doing this spring. Regional boss comes in and asks me if I could give what he's looking at to a production company and have them build it. Since I made my meshes with presentation in mind, not building plans, I told him I'd have to remodel it in Vectorworks. Using the measure tool, I don't need to redo anything, just get a bunch of shots of the model and bam, all done.

I thought the same. When I heard him say he doesn't use it at all. I was like clearly he doesn't 3D print. I almost skipped the vid because of it haha.

hi.. how do I keep the measure visible when I click on "move" or some other tool?.. the measure I made only appears if I click on measure.. why?

but ... how to use the measure tool to measure out a given value along a surface. say, to have to move along a face from and edge and stop at an amount like 1.4m from the start point. I am trying to measure out where to put a hole in a face. It must be 1400mm from an edge. I thought I might use the measure tool from point 'a' and then type in 1.4

Life saver!! Wanted to do this in the 3D printer slicer but it's so buggy and laggy.. so I was hoping it's possible in blender too. Nice.

Not that good, if you edit the object the measure will stay there unchanged, it's not easy to remove multiple measure as well, much easier using MeasureIT tools addon, if I do remember it's already integrated in Blender just need to be enabled, it will allow to keep measures angles and other things between points, they will remain visibile or be hidden, if you update geometry both in edit or objetct mode those measures will update too.

Is there a way to get the x,y,z dimensions from the measure? Say I want to measure two vertices but I want to know the difference between them on one axis?

We may have to figure this out; I do it with CAD all day, but with Blender it's almost impossible. (so far. Blender is getting better)

@@roblmurphy4135 I really wish there would be.a stronger push to build a cad like parametric modeler in blender. It's not like artists couldn't use it either. I'm kind of hindered since moving to macos. I like simple things like openscad but it has no use in the real world. Freecad works, but I hate using it. I cut my teeth on acad 2004, had a fair amount of time in inventor 2011... fusion 360 was pretty good until they really started screwing with their licensing.

@@NavySturmGewehr Yeah. I learned on Autocad, but they're the darth vader of industry so I moved to Rhino, an employee owned company. Not so much parametric as surface modeling, but a wonderful program for me. Blender is amazing, but tough to learn, awkward to use, and weird about simple things like CAD. I'm sticking with it anyway.

This doesn't work for me. If I snap to two vertices of a known distance and measure it, I get a wildly different number than what I expect. Then if I pan around, I discover that the measurement line originates at some point clearly not attached to the first vertex. I can't seem to get it to snap to both vertices. 😢
