Can you use a different size gauge or does it have to be only 20 gauge wire?

I can’t get the wire to stop slipping up and down no matter how I squeeze hard to hold it in place

As nice as these pliers appear to be, there are no close shots of what you’re doing.FMG usually has better demos than this.I know what you’re saying but I can’t see what’s happening.
