In this video, we walk you through using timecode on the Wireless PRO in two different setups - with a single camera that does not understand timecode and with a pair of cameras with a dedicated timecode input.
These are two common scenarios that cover using timecode with both single and multi-camera setups, and with cameras that understand timecode and do not.
Check out the user guide for more information on how to use timecode on the Wireless PRO: rode.com/user-guides/wireless...

Many thanks for this tutorial. I do not like the idear, that when using TC-Mode 5, I can not monitor and / or output my audio. A way around would be to jamsync the Rode Wireless Pro with Tentacle Sync E and then use this device to jamsync the recorder or camera. But can the Rode Wireless Pro Receiver run with TC without using a Mode 1 to 5? That would be great!

Hi - I have a Blackmagic 6k Pro. What cable do you use between the camera and the reciever when you use timecode. I have gotten a trs to trrs in my package, and I can’t see that you are using a trs to trs. And I can’t make it work. On the box it says it’s a sc2 that’s included, but it is a sc7 cable that’s in the box. Are the cables interchangeably?

As a current owner of one of these units, I will use them as a regular 32-bit recorder, not a timecode device. If they decide to add the option to receive timecode from other master devices or a second Rode unit, then it will open a realistic and secure option for most of us. Shooting on the field. So far, using the timecode is more made for a short single-camera shoot, and you need other extra units; you can't sync them at all. Please work on that as a firmware update ASAP, and we will see a jump in sales even from people owning one first unit.

Can't you just jam sync your traditional TC device (i.e. Tentacle) with the Rode and then use Tentacle as your master TC? It certainly not ideal, but it should work, right?
@TheTechnoPilot
@TheTechnoPilot 9 ай бұрын
@@RandumbTech yes, but it means the rode still must be the master and then you still must also have it on the camera in addition to the Rode RX. Basically it makes the TC functionality of the Rode effectively useless. It also does not solve the issue of using two Pro systems, for which right now it would be likely better to just turn timecode off as it works right now. Personally I know I don’t intend to turn TC on my Pros until they fundamentally change how they function for jam in and out.

I was looking at purchasing the Wireless Pro system to work with my current setup using a MixPre II as master timecode and an array of TC-1s, however, because I can't jam-sync the Wireless Pro to the MixPre II, I'll have to pass on this product and look elsewhere. RODE hinted that they were thinking about offering this missing functionality as a firmware update but their lack of action so far is not encouraging.

I’m sorry but the camera choice here for the demonstration is super weird. The Blackmagic’s are ones that don’t have a dedicated timecode port and the FX30 is the one that does! Also to be clear the best practice for timecode is for the cameras to always remain jammed, not only occasionally as implied. While similar cameras will often drift similarly in the same weather conditions, it’s not guaranteed. Considering the issues and pushback surrounding the very limited timecode implementation in the Rode Wireless Pro, I would have loved to see this video use other more professional cameras with timecode and the demonstration for audio TC should have been on a camera that doesn’t have timecode. This feels like it’s trying to be a tutorial but the FX30 should NOT be used this way with timecode professionally. Again this video just feels like it’s reinforcing very odd company decisions and leaves me puzzled once again…

Thank you for echoing my thoughts - I have an outstanding support ticket with Rode for how to jam the FX30 as it needs some kind of cable to connect to the micro-USB multiport on the camera, which obviously does not come with the Wireless Pro. The Rode user guide lists the FX30 as one they've tested it with but not how to do it. I've tried the Tentacle cable but it doesn't work. When I saw the FX30 in the preview I was hopeful of a resolution.

So did it trick me and use audio for sync? and then showed the timecodes? Or is FCP capable of using audio timecode?

Can you sync two or more sets of Wireless Pro? 4 transmitters and 2 receivers?
@rodemic
@rodemic 8 ай бұрын
The answer is no- the Wireless PRO cannot accept an incoming timecode to sync to, so you can't connect them together. However, the unit's time-of-day timecode is updated when connecting the units to RØDE Central. So if you connect two WiPRO systems to the RØDE Central (desktop or phone), they won't be 100% syncronised, but they will be accurate with each other to within about a second. You'll still need to manually sync your files, but they will roughly be in the right place on your timeline.

what happens with the transmitters tc if you turn off the reciver and switch from tc mode 5 to split mode? I would really like to have tha audio split insted of merge so I only have to inport the 32 bit float if there is trouble with the sound. Can this be fixed in a firmware update? I also have other wishes. That I can change the file names on the transmitters so they are not the same name, and that the actual file name of the recordings in the transmitter I can choose what it should be. For example, the date in the name. Is this something you guys can fix in future firmware?
@rodemic
@rodemic 9 ай бұрын
The transmitters will record timecode to the on-board recordings as long as you have turned timecode on in RØDE Central. You don't need to choose a "timecode mode", timecode just needs to be on for the receiver to send timecode to the transmitters. Once a recording has started, it will contain timecode information even if the receiver is disconnected and/or turned off. If you do disconnect or power off the receiver, the transmitters’ timecode will continue to "free run" on their own internal clock. If the receiver is turned on or reconnected again, the receiver will re-sync with the transmitters. If you have the receiver powered down or disconnected, the timecode will be free-running on each of your three recording devices: transmitter 1, transmitter 2, and your camera. This may result in your footage and audio ‘drifting’ apart by a frame or two, depending on the clock in your camera and how long you record for. Because of this, we recommend leaving your receiver paired and providing an ongoing timecode signal to your camera to maintain perfect synchronisation. Thanks for your feedback- will pass it onto the team.

@rodemic
@rodemic 6 ай бұрын
Hey there, the idea with timecode mode 5 is that it's just necessary to sync the Wireless PRO with devices that can accept a timecode signal to sync with. Once this sync has taken place, you're free to switch to another timecode mode, or use another routing mode (such as split, merged, or safety) as long as the "timecode" switch in RØDE Central is still turned on.

Currently I use Wireless Go II with my Canon R6II and I'm wasting a lot of time in DaVinci Resolve syncing the footage manually. I leave two Wireless mics to record for a long time (on the priest and the groom) and I have a shotgun mic on camera and I record multiple clips during that time - some of the footage is of the couple and the priest and other clips are B-roll. My question is: Can these Pro's work for me when I import multiple camera clips with two long Wireless mic clips (can Resolve sync those short clips to the long ones) ?! Do I have to use the receiver (cause I'd like to have the shotgun backup to the camera)
@rodemic
@rodemic 6 ай бұрын
Hey there @evomix5132! Great question. If your camera is recording timecode, then yes, you will be able to sync the long clips and short clips easily in Resolve. To your question on whether you can keep your shotgun mic plugged into your camera, this would depend on whether your camera can sync with the timecode clock of an external device. If it can, you could just sync the camera with your Wireless PRO, unplug the Wireless PRO and plug your shotgun mic in and use both as you would previously. However, if your camera can't do that, you'll need to plug in your Wireless PRO reciever into your camera for it to recieve timecode.

@rodemic 7 ай бұрын
Hey @mediataal, thanks for stopping by today! We can't always answer questions about third party devices such as the tentacle sync, unfortunately. However, it is quite rare for devices like this to input USB audio, it's more likely that the USB port on your device is for charging and it only uses the 3.5 input for timecode. The USB-C output on the Wireless PRO reciever is great to use with devices like phones, computers, and other devices that accept USB audio.
@mediataal

@@rodemic Thank you for trying to aswering my question. It’s not about the tentacle. My goal is: Record separate left+right from the audio port to my camera. And simultaneously sync the timecode to another device/camera/something. I know I can jam-sync but why should I if there is another port available which provides the timecode audio (USB). I only want to know if its possible to convert the USB audio to audible audio (with a usb to audio converter).

Hey Geffa, the way timecode is displayed on a screen in a video doesn't actually definitively show a camera's internal clock, for a few reasons. The timecode display on a camera's screen may not represent its internal clock 100% accurately, and also the camera this was filmed on uses a rolling shutter. The files were ultimately in sync. Love it,...... But i'm afraid...... I feel like the Rode Wireless Pro stopped just short of receiving external timecode, most specifically the ability to take External TC Auto Record that could trigger the wireless go to start recording on the transmitters at the press of an audio recorder that outputs timecode only when recording. Rode Wireless systems have been an important part of my workflow as a location recordist and sound designer since the RodeLinks were released and I often ran all 8 channels that were available. Rode has done an excellent job of listening to communities and the Wireless range has come leaps and bounds. However it seems the focus group has been mainly that of DSLR shooters. I totally understand that Rode loves camera people (the most common denominator, and clearly who this is built for) but us dedicated sound people need some true love too.... That being said, great product, and it could/would/should have been a 10 out of 10.
