I love my walker also! lol, one day my 16 year old snuck on my mower while I was at my other job, wife calls and said dont get mad...uh oh...he tried using the walker to mow and ended up driving right through neighbors fence with the front deck! All was well, first response was..hows my mower? Anyhow, there is a learning curve to the walker. thanks for the vids Brian!

Great video. The only ZTR mower I've even been on was a Dixon ZTR. It was one of the very early models as it wasn't a hydrostatic model. It had a couple of steel cones and a ball type transmission...which was out of adjustment as you couldn't get it to track straight without guiding it with the steering levers. Once I got used to it, it was fun. I was surprised how fast the thing would go, however it didn't cut very well at full speed LOL. Only mowers I've ever used have been a regular lawn tractor, and push mowers. I've never had a self propelled walk behind of any type. I spent several hours doing a service on a 26 year old Scag walk behind, but didn't get to mess with it too much as it had to go back to the customer. The little testing I did with it though was a learning experience for sure. It was a geared mower so shifting gears with your knee is a pain...in the knee when you hit that shift lever with your knee wrong. Reverse was kind of weird, I was expecting it to jump into reverse really quick but it doesn't it slowly engages and starts backing up...I believe its like that on purpose for safety. Turning was very weird....after so many years of a regular push mower where you have to steer the dang thing by manually turning it was very weird to pull a lever to turn the machine...that took some getting used to....no you can't exactly force the machine to turn without pulling the corresponding lever LOL. Wouldn't mind having that SCAG. I'd happily walk behind it over using my lawn tractor on my yard. The SCAG is a much better cut LOL. Haven't had experience with any of the commercial equipment other than the SCAG that one time, but I think any of the commercial equipment will be a huge plus for anyone in the lawn business for sure regardless what brand...many times the complaints are related to operator error and lack of maintenance.

Matt did grate for a first time.I always set up an obstacle course with Road cones when I am teaching someone how to use a walker they hit one it is not a big deal As for guys taking things out with The Walker I have had one guy put it through a conservatory another guy took out a fence and a car in the same day and I don't know how many letter boxes have been hit. Then there is shrubs, Gardens and various other things have also been taken out with it you name it they have hit it

@wildbill23c
@wildbill23c 9 жыл бұрын
Roger Meza I can say for a fact that the first time you run something like that you want to be in a wide open area. It really does take some practice to get things down especially after running a regular lawnmower for many years. It took me a good 15 minutes to get the turning and overall feel of the SCAG walk behind down that I did a service on a while back. Until that point I'd never operated one before. Luckily I have quite a big back yard to practice on LOL. Don't try to mow or operate the machine very close to anything, house, car, etc. Open area get the feel of the controls, turning, speed, etc. Even after I had operated the SCAG for a while, I still felt more comfortable outlining everything with my regular push mower first. I'm sure after a few uses I could mow my whole yard with the SCAG though...its just a lot of learning of a new tool for me. 28 years of mowing with a regular push mower and a riding mower its very hard to get used to a different machine.

When the rep. came to show me the Walker we took it up to a nice big long property. Mows great, she has what I call a Beyonce rear end for sure. And I took out a metal fence on the day. gotta keep those drive wheels moving at all times. you can do a zero turn but not easy. ive gone the whole season now and used maybe half the tread. started with new tires spring and still looks new. everybody i work with drags inside tire and dont care. sometimes if its wet or incline u cant avoid some kind of mark but.
@blonchay123

you dont need to ride your forward speed control.... the whole machine can be driven with just the two control levers. its designed to be a one handed operation. the forward speed is set and forget. that way there when youre turning, both wheels are always spinning. thats one of the main reason why walkers are so nice. it doesnt have to be done like that but that is the intent of the design. i hope this makes sense
@314biggy
@314biggy 7 жыл бұрын

If you like that Walker for the out front mowing deck and you don't bag all the time, you should try a Grasshopper. I think they have more comfortable and natural controls and are better on hills, especially if you get the hydraulic lift deck. Might be worth demo'ing one if there's a dealer near you, it's all I run, for riders, after 20 years in business.

I can see how these might be nice for high end yards, golf course looking mows, but for general yard mowing I will stick with my hustler ztr...it's faster and easier. That steering arrangement isn't complex but doesn't lend itself to blasting through a yard like a ztr controls
@JonBecker81
@JonBecker81 Жыл бұрын
A friend let me borrow one of these the other day to try it out and I agree with you completely. They are designed for perfectly leveled high end yards. I got used to the controls pretty quick probably because I’ve been running heavy equipment since I was 10 years old but the one thing I missed the most was my deck pedal that lets me raise my deck up and down for obstacles like roots or uneven ground so I don’t scalp the grass. I know these were designed to articulate over uneven ground like that and it did but it still scalped. Plus it’s just so much easier to adjust the deck height with a dial like my kubota ZT has. I also mow some really nasty areas that I wouldn’t dream of taking this mower on. I guess if you have the money you would have both a regular ZT and a walker for the nicer yards.

Question, my father in law has a walker just like this but without the box. In his, when you get past a certain speed, it won't let you reverse, you have to slow down. Otherwise it starts bucking like crazy. Does yours do this? Actually, even though they look the same, i think my in-laws is probably about 10 years old, that may be why.

Hm yeah kinda liked them. Had to get used to it but it quite nimble with that one-handed way to move it around. Cons... TO bloody fragile, the impeller can get dislodged by branches. The fat swinging ass, mind that all the time with obstacles around. Next, the noise level is quite high, the engine frequency is annoying.

I've never had a blower issue and I've ran over some stuff. It is a little loud and the caboose is bigger than most.

I'm enjoying watching your videos and listening to your exchange of dialog, But I have to turn the sound way down. The tunes you play are too loud, and way too overbearing, sorry ! I guess I'm just too old to like this sort of thing!

Richard Schreiber I'm sorry about that Richard. When I use a song I don't turn it up or anything, so I'm not sure what the deal is.

Richard Schreiber FWIW, sound is fine for me. But I have the same problem with Jake the Lawn Kid's videos, and a few of Stan's.
