How to use your arms when running

Keep your elbows bent at a 90-degree angle. This will help you maintain a good running form and prevent injury.
Swing your arms forward and back in a smooth, coordinated motion. Your arms should move in opposition to your legs, so when your right leg is forward, your left arm should be forward, and vice versa.
Don't cross your arms in front of your body. This can cause you to lose balance and put stress on your shoulders.
Keep your hands relaxed and your shoulders down. Don't tense up your arms or shoulders, as this can lead to fatigue and pain.
Here are some additional tips that may help you improve your arm swing:
Imagine that you are pushing off the ground with your hands as you run. This will help you generate more power and momentum.
Focus on keeping your arms close to your body. This will help you maintain good posture and prevent injury.
Experiment with different arm swings to find what feels most comfortable and efficient for you. There is no one right way to swing your arms when running, so find what works best for you.
As you run, pay attention to how your arms feel. If you are feeling any pain, make sure to adjust your arm swing or take a break. With practice, you will be able to develop a smooth, efficient arm swing that will help you run faster and farther.

Breath control. It sounds weird but breathing deeper instead of shallower enables this. So not being scared you're gonna pass out and exhaling all the air controlled while speaking and then quickly inhaling with both mouth and nose in between.

This is the comment I was looking for. I did years of track & by all our coaches we were constantly told never to ball your fists up as you’re creating wind tension, same thing with loose or baggy clothes. But for long distance this stance (but relaxed hands, which look like closed fists) is much better. I was a sprinter though, so I never close my hands.

Never thought about it this way. First time hearing it in very simple words “beat on the drum.” That’s not to say I wasn’t keeping the same form. Learned that technique on my own after running for many years. The full swing however is a must for me when doing a sprint at the last 200 meters of a half or full mary. Excellent tips.

As a stamina runner my coaches always told me to just relax my arms. Generally your arms will follow the cadence of your steps and vice versa. It seems silly but every race at the last 400-100 meters depending on the race, you are pumping those arms fast as you can to speed up your step subconsciously and finish out strong with several passes.
