Slight correction: the vga and hdmi ports on the desktop and laptop computers are actually "output", not "input", ports. Great explanation! Far better than a lot of stuff on other similar channels.

Very nice explanation. I thought my son how to do this since it was very helpful for me during my college years. Over 15 years ago😊😊 it's been a big help for him with his virtual class. It's even better and easier now to do it with the Smart TVs. I highly recommend Sony Bravia and Samsung😊

As some one who is not very techy I was able to set up a second monitor and get my sound to come out of the speakers I had not attached to the tv I needed set up as my new main monitor. This vid helped me in 2024. The sticking point for me was that the hdmi output from my pc to tv was NOT the same one that I had been using for my pc to monitor connection. Still not sure why on earth this should be the case haha but this vid was a godsend while waiting for a replacement monitor.

You are wonderful! I actually understood what you were talking about!! I successfully run 6 one hour Zoom programs for homebound seniors weekly. I've taken on a weekly assignment of bringing my program to an assisted living community. I encounter all kinds of issues trying to hook my laptop with my program all set up with You Tube and Power Point. My screen is not duplicated on the TV screen. All that shows is the Screen Saver photo with my task bar across the bottom. I am hooked up to their HTM1, but cannot make it work. I have had help from a computer person at the facility and they are running out of patience with how much of their time I am using up trying to make it all work. They have given me options of putting my one hour program on a flash drive...and while I have been able to do that with my PP, I am unable to do it with You Tuber intteractive quizzes or entertainment clips. Since I see from this video I cannot "test drive" the change in multiple monitors until I am at the community. I think I will go in a day before my scheduled class and try it out....

I instantly noticed that, when pointing out HDMI inputs, you didn't mention that a GPU has it's own HDMI input. That will be the input you want to use if you have a GPU.

👍🏼 Wow! Excellent video that even a tech dummy will be able to understand! You really go through the whole setup thoroughly and answer most questions one could have regarding using a TV as a monitor. I still have another question though: Don't you have problems with e.g. the input lag and other parameters on a TV? Usually TVs are set up for watching Movies and the like and not for playing games and the color space is not set up for image editing etc.

I was using my Gaming PC with a 32 Inch Sharp Aquos LED T.V.It was immersive, large ...Movies games ..Everything was awesome.. Until one day I went to a PC shop for some fixing & I noticed the result of a regular PC Monitor.I was blown away to see the difference in crispness & quality. May be my T.V was not so good but now I am using a small 27 inch Monitor which is smaller then my T.V but the quality is better then the T.V

I haven't had cable for 20+ years and I have used the various TV's I have owned as my pc monitor. I have had 3 flat screen TV's, each one bigger than the last and this last one, a 65-inch RCA, doesn't have a VGA connector, so I was forced into using a HDMI, which I love. I can't play my DVD player on the new tv without a VGA adapter, which sucks mad apples, but I do have a DVD player in the pc and I can watch DVDs through it --- although, most of what I watch is downloaded material from online. Picture and and my Surround-Sound is great. I don't miss cable or regular tv. But who needs it when I have a home theatre running from my pc. I am making a move from Windows to Linux this year, and I already think that transitioning will be seamless. Everyone should get their giant flat screens running off a pc, or a powerful laptop.
