Man it’s so good to have the “teach” back on Thursday night. What a great short lesson. Phil I have never forgotten the video you did when you announced the passing of your lovely wife. I don’t imagine there was a dry eye on site. I just wanted to use that example to announce I lost my wife back on October 12, 2021. She had Dementia but God spared her and the family of dragging it out over many years. As a matter of fact it was much shorter that it took us all by surprise. I saved your video of that night and look back on it occasionally, especially now. I tried getting in touch with you after my wife’s passing but never found a good address for you so I will just share it this way. I do hope you are doing better because you mean a lot to us out here in the cloud.

That was great Phil! I had a "master" turner tell me one time that people that use wood worm screws are idiots. I should have told him he needs to watch Phil's videos and learn something! I have watch MANY turning videos over the years and I have to say that I have learned more from watching your videos over the last year than I have from all of those others combined! I am forever grateful to you and your teaching style! I look forward to your next course! Thank you Phil Anderson!

The worm screw that came with my chuck has a ring that has a set screw to tighten it. Then the ring fits inside the tenon on the chuck. And I totally agree on the flat spot. In the 4 months I've Been turning and have made 10 pieces, I've only tightened up the set screw once. It won't go flying. Just like Phil d said. I totally trust it

Enjoyed the video Phil! I have started using my woodworm screw more, the one reason I wasn’t using it for the longest is because I just popped it in the chuck and tightened it down without paying any attention if it had a flat spot or not and I would twist the bowl on to it and when was getting to the tight point it would slip, and I would think 🤔 what the heck 🤷‍♂️, and so I just didn’t use it and all the years that I’ve been turning that’s a really handy piece to use, but one day Dave messages me and says why don’t ya use your woodworm screw and I said because it slips, and so I did give it another try and started messing around with it and that’s what I was doing to just not realizing there was a flat side. And it’s been within this year that he messaged me about that woodworm screw 😄 and all these years I could’ve been using it.

Thanks, Phil, for making the effort on another weekly presentation. I never used a woodworm screw until I started watching your videos several months ago. I decided to upgrade my chuck from a two-handed model. "Hey, what does Phil use?" That's what I bought, and it came with a woodworm screw. I use the woodworm screw most of the time now. Thanks Phil . I did not appreciate what the flat spots were for. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks.

Thanks for sharing Phil. It's not always about the wood and what one makes of it, it's also about the tools and how to use them properly and safely. Take care and get well soon. Oh, and another Wonderphil video!

🙋‍♂️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Hi Phil great tutorial, I'm not a wood turner just enjoy you at your lathe. I guess that there is quite a lot of force applied to the wood worm screw so to get it located in the chuck correctly is vital. 👍👍

So good to see you in the workshop, Phil, and taking time to teach the masterly tricks of the trade on how to use a woodworm screw properly. Extremely important, i'm sure, although i'm a total novice in wood turning, i'v always loved wood in any shape or form, especially natural pieces of driftwood found on the beach. Also, used to renovate old furniture to their natural state but, alas, those days have fallen away, with still unfinished projects to finish. Just so glad you're out there doing and sharing, and most of all, i hope you are getting better each and every day. Take care and stay warm Phil, know that you are loved and blessed by many around the world.💛🫂☺️

Great explanation. Same thing is true for Steb centers that fit in the chuck. If you don’t have them properly inserted, they have very bad runout (don’t ask me how I know this 😉). The round parts of the center have to be gripped in the round part of the chuck jaws (on my style of chuck) and then you get dead-on true running out of them.
