Review important guidelines, discover where you can fly your drone, schedule flights, and request permission to fly in airspace controlled by NAV CANADA all from the palm of your hand. Download NAV Drone on your mobile device or use the web version.

It seems to me to be another example of Canadian regulations becoming a "big brother" approach to controlling things. If you are like me, and fly legitimately, safely and legally in all ways in rural areas only, there is no need for another NAV drone app to control my movements. Other apps currently available do just fine in defining restricted airspace for those who do need to know (I check each time) So you register your flight, register their drone with the app (again), and go for a flying session. Then you arrive home one day to find a ticket in the mail for flying beyond visual line of sight. The government has DJI flight records which show you strayed beyond VLOS rules and their ticket is then validated by actual documentation. Thank you but NO ! Regulations in this country are far too intrusive. This seems to be the mindset of the younger generation who are now in power and who know nothing of how regulatory "creep" can intrude on personal liberties (and no, I am not a conspiracy theorist in any way) My drone are registered for two reasons..one it's the law, and two it gives me a fighting chance to recover it if lost. Beyond that, the government can go suck eggs....

@U You have to get permission to fly in national parks period. Doesn't matter what the app says. Wouldn't bank on Banff giving you permission.

What are you complaining about? If you arent flying in controlled airspace you dont need to use the app.

@@ttonAb2 The app has some value in that it shows where you can fly and not fly. I still use it whenever I am somewhere near an airport to determine the correct course of action. The fact that I can't sign in just makes it worth less overall

Why in Heaven's name would you need to know which rules you're complying with - pure fluff. Does NAV CANADA really think that drone pilots don't know the rules ? If that were the case, they wouldn't be using the app... The claim that NAV CANADA is 'simplifying the authorisation process' is pure nonsense. As often as not, the app cops out and sends the request to a human, which makes rapid response a laughable matter - they only work office hours - and that's stated on the app !
