Well, here's how I do it!
Keeping a fursuit looking and smelling clean is vital if you want to be a fursuiter.
Take care of that multiple thousand dollar luxury carpet you own. ;)

Another tip: be cautious when lifting a wet body suit - the water makes it heavy and could pop a seam!

thank u very much! im currently still a kid (under 13) so i would need this info for the future when i do end up making a fursuit and you guys prob are like “why dont you commission one?” its a skulldog fursuit so technically you r forced to make it

Kuromi, can I just say, for someone under 13, you sound like a pretty responsible person for actually looking into these things so you dont do something wrong, miss a step, or endanger yourself and or others in attempting to make a fursuit, or just have one in general. I respect you. Not even teenagers are always that responsible, nor always think ahead before trying to do something, and I say that as a 14 year old.

Yeah, maybe one could fold the suit and pick it up with both hands instead of just dragging it with one. I don’t have one so this is just an idea, if this is incorrect, please tell.

I have known most fursuit owners that they have to cover up the eyes so it doesn’t damage or wetting the eyes paint design.

i learned of someone who made the japanese style, multi layered eyes that he just pops out of his suit. he 3D printed brackets that are sewn inside the head

@@ann6442 You don't need to do anything special, just shove a whole bunch of paper towels in the eye sockets and take care to not douse them completely in water

Same I own a dino mask and have a few cardboard heads, so they aren't considered fursuits 😖👌

Smokey you shouldn't wear those cardboard heads. They aren't actually safe. (There are some videos that explain why if you search youtube)

Hot tip for more delicate pieces: Invest in mesh washing bags! It'll keep long fur from snagging anywhere and ripping, it'll protect your seams, and overall, it's just a good thing to have, even outside of fursuiting.

...Okay, I need to ensure that my eventual corset that holds extra arms can have the arms removed - and have the "skin" removed from the arms - so that everything can be washed. I was going to have the arms permanently attached to the corset for strength, but I forgot about the hygiene angle. Thanks for this information, I'll be sure to include "How To Clean And Care For This Costume" in my calculations as I make my stuff. (That's an easy thing to forget in all the hype of "How To Make This Costume Look AWESOME".)

If I ever get a fursuit this cleaning always intimidates me because I never know what's washable and what isn't and the extra steps to keep them super fluffy and clean. Thank you for making a well detailed cleaning video.

Yes it is so very important to keep them clean! Helps with the longevity of the suit but dirty suits are very gross lol. I do pretty much the same process as you as my handpaws and bodysuits are machine washable. I make my tails machine washable too as I have a hidden zipper so you can take the stuffing out and wash.

Having a dehumidifier near your air drying space is also a good idea

I only have a partial and haven't properly washed my pieces yet (i plan to closer to con time, though), but I use a detangling brush instead of a slicker brush to brush out the fur on my pieces. It seems to give a similar result with less loss of fur. :3

I always use my bathtub, and every time I wash my fursuit in the tub, my arms hurt! But when you do it in the tub most of the time, it's not that bad. I also have a Honeywell fan that I got for free, it's amazing.

I used to do it in the tub as well before I made my bodysuits washing machine safe. :)

Im really happy that when you do commissions, you put a warning so that ifthey are allergic to cats, they can go to another suit maker

This is so helpful, thank you! Would it work to use a front-loading washer as well? My washer also automatically loads the soap after the stuff is inside, so I'm not sure if it's too risky to do it that way

great information, cant wait till i have enough for my own. but its gonna be a while until leone is actually made because its probably gonna cost around $1000-2000.... fursuits are surprisingly expensive and hard to keep clean

So basically: Flat or mostly flat pieces: washing machine on delicates, cold, with gentle detergent and optional fabric softener & scent, then brush backwards and hang to dry. Pieces with foam: little green with diluted gentle detergent, then place over fan to dry if necessary.

Thank you for this! Just wondering, how do you make your wings removable? How do they attach to the bodysuit? I’ve made a foam base for wings similar to your wing tutorial, but I’m not sure how to smoothly transition the wings into the bodysuit

I personally don't recommend using Etsy. It treats its sellers horribly and takes massive chunks of your profits.

When you were removing the wings and stuff from keaanu I noticed behind you the blue mermaid fins I have the exact same things, same color, except mine are in much worse condition (meaning I shouldn’t still have them they’re like 5 years old)
