Episodes 9-12 of season 7 of The Clone Wars brought an exciting end to the series. In this video, I present my analysis of the sequence of events and present a way to watch everything in order.
*It was brought to my attention that Mandalore has 19 hour days according to canon. While it changes some of the times between events, I do not believe it changes the viewing instructions. The updated timeline has been loaded on the site linked below.
pdf copies of the documents can be downloaded here:
ericvw.wixsite.com/cw-and-rots
Also.... yes, I said "Return of the Sith" a few times. It was an honest mistake. With all due respect I won't be answering comments about that because they don't serve any purpose.

I’ve heard that in a few places now, but I ultimately don’t see why that would make a difference. Maybe it just accounts for travel time - but that makes the “we can be there within the hour” line even worse... Personally, I prefer a faster timeline. If things happen fast it makes more sense that Anakin never had the time to stop and think about things.

@@vdubsvideos4619 Personally it feels more like Anakin had less time to be overwhelmed by everything (as more clearly brought to light by the novelization), but I could see it the other way around as well. Now, I'm typing this before watching the video, but I think you CAN maybe even stretch the siege of Mandalore to a couple or more days though. Like if Maul went into hiding to plan out his escape and it took a few days to find him and then there was a few days before the siege of Mandalore was officially ended with the departure of Ahsoka and the 501st. So you could talk about it being roughly 5 days (1 day of battle around the planet, a few, 1 or 2, days looking Maul and 2 days to establish order after Maul's capture and some hours after leaving Mandalore, order 66 kicks in. Forgive me if you immediately notice that does not all mix and match well with how things happened in the movie and the season finales, since I've only watched the final episodes once, so I may be missing some core elements that'll make it difficult to stretch it out like that, but that's just my rough imagining of how it could pan out if the movie and mandalore were stretched.

1 - I think the music in the airstrike on Mandalore implies the Battle of Coruscant starts as Rex and Ahsoka leave the gunship 2 - Ahsoka and Maul don't sense Anakin's turn as it happens, but shortly after. The visions they have actually skil dialog from the film. This also explains the Order 66 problem

@@vdubsvideos4619 man, with hyperspace i bet you could be from whatever place on the galaxy to corousant within the hour, they're not on cars man it's hyperspace travel. also the use of the music from the beginning of the battle of corusant is used when Ahsoka arrives on Mandalore, this implies these moments happen at the same time. you use logical cues and that's perfect but these cinematografical cues also determine what happens at what time. also since order 66 happens at least 5-10 minutes after the end of Mace vs sidious battle and shortly after anakin leaves for the temple but ahsoka just senses anakin's turn less than a minute before order 66 is issued to rex it means her vision is delayed, nothing more. the energy just hit them now. OR by the sake of keeping things moving, they happened at the same time but skipped through dialogue and sped order 66 up so the episode could continue faster, again, these are cinematorgafical cues and they outweight logic when making assertions about 2 interconnected pieces of movie/show

To be honest, I don't think what Ahsoka senses what's happened between Anakin, Mace and Palpatine at the same time. Like you said, the timing makes no sense. First off, we have to take the Force in consideration. My assumption is that the events were already taking place and happened already. What already transpired, I get the feeling the Force was warning Ahsoka about the danger that occurred. When Yoda sensed it, I'm betting he was feeling what Ahsoka was feeling and the Force warned him, which gave him an advantage and the vision he had on Dagobah made him well prepared if the troops ever did turn their weapons on him.

I agree with that reasoning why Ashoka got a force warning delayed moments after the actual attack occurred. I imagine it like a water drop rippling outward and coruscant is pretty much the center of the galaxy. And why yoda felt it practically at that exact time when anakin struck down windu is probably because he is much more attuned with the force than Ashoka is. He was the grand master after all. Which makes me question why the other Jedi didn’t feel it was for that exact reason (that and they were more easily blinded by the dark side)
@darkdesigns

@@vdubsvideos4619 I don't think that's too unbelievable. It's the echo of events that have already occurred reaching Ahsoka and Yoda - kind of like throwing a stone into a pond and creating ripples. I don't think the Force was trying to warn Yoda or Ahsoka, I think they just happened to pick up on the ripples; Ahsoka, because of her connection with Anakin, and Yoda because of his connection to the Force in general. And it takes time for those ripples to reach them. It's not going to be as immediate as, say, calling someone up right after Anakin fell.

Actually, I did address that. At the end of Ep 8 they left Coruscant, and the next time we see them they are in a different ship and Ahsoka's outfit looks like a Mandalorian design. Furthermore, Mandalore is in the Inner Rim while it is stated that Yerbana is in the Outer Rim. In ROTS Anakin says "If the chancellor hadn't been kidnapped...I didn't think they were ever going to bring us back." So they couldn't have been on their way back - they had no reason to go home until they got the call. I think the "be there in an hour" is an oversight. I've seen some sources claim that Coruscant to Alderann is a 16-hour flight in hyperspace. That means the Outer Rim is AT LEAST a day's travel.

I actually think there was quite a bit of time between Ahsoka leaving Coruscant with Bo Katan and her reunion with Anakin. Months, even, because Anakin was on Coruscant at the beginning of the Martez sisters' arc, and we know that he didn't find out about Padme's pregnancy until she was 5 months along, so the Martez sisters' arc probably takes place around the same time that the twins were conceived, or maybe a few weeks after. Then the bad batch arc happened, because Padme is visibly pregnant, and then The Siege of Mandalore.

There’s one key thing in the way of that: if Obi-Wan said the fleet was within an hour of Coruscant, that means they were closer to Coruscant. Since the battle there was already underway, the two fighters you see at the beginning of the movie would’ve been dispatched the moment they arrived. Meanwhile, Asoka’s fleet would’ve had to travel farther, and then launch an entire offensive.

My estimate is a few years have passed when Vader visits the downed cruiser. The lightsaber looks rusty. The grave markers would have stood for a while under normal conditions and I don’t believe the clones were fitted out with Stormtrooper gear so soon, or that gunships would be replaced by Lambda class shuttles in that time either.

The Vader scene at the end of sith is a few months in the future, I believe. One reason for my belief in this because in the comics Vader goes straight from being put in the suit to his very first mission, which then expands into a chain of missions, plus it’d make more sense for the time taken to construct the Death Star, matching up with Galen Erso’s story from rogue one.

About the confluence between Anakin's turn and Order 66: I'm reminded KOTOR 2 and its emphasis of "echoes" in the force. Because an echo is a sound, you hear it sometime after you've made the original sound. In my opinion, that's why Ahsoka felt the disturbance just as Sidious was speaking to Rex, because what she felt was an echo in the force.

The scene looking over the deathstar is actually a timeskip originally. You dont see it but he has his new lightsaber clipped to his belt as is discovered in the behind the scenes, and we learn from the comics it took him months to a year before he finally crafted it after bleeding a crystal from a fallen jedis saber. This matches up with the enslavment of the geonocians following the war to build the deathstar.

I've got nothing for the "within the hour" line. Maybe Obi-Wan was exaggerating and he just meant we can be there quicker than others can? But for the delay in Ahsoka sensing the conversation in Palpatine's office, maybe the explanation is that Ahsoka isn't actually sensing those events, and she's actually sensing Order 66 (just like Yoda in the movie and Jaro Tapal in Fallen Order), NOT Anakin's fall. And they just put in that dialogue because it was the most recognizable dialogue from that scene so that we know it's about to happen. That way there's no actual delay because she's sensing Order 66 instead of the actual conversation we hear in the episode. Maybe she can sense Anakin has something to do with it which is why she whispers "Anakin," but she's not actually sensing his fall. Plus if she sensed it there's no reason Obi-Wan wouldn't have as well. Other than that there's no explanation I can think of that makes sense. And it'd also explain why Maul senses it. Maul hasn't met Anakin so unless Anakin falling creates that big of a shockwave in the Force (which I don't think it does or all the Jedi would've sensed it), Maul has no reason to sense it, yet he does. If it's Order 66, however, Maul could definitely sense that.

I always thought Revenge of the Sith took place over the course of a couple weeks, at least. Palpatine gradually working Anakin as Padme's pregnancy, and Anakin's fears, progressed seemed more realistic. But I guess I can believe the tighter time frame since Anakin has had the whole Clone Wars series to slip closer to the dark side now. As for Ahsoka sensing Anakin's fall: spacetime is weird and the dark side, which is stronger than ever, is clouding the precognition of the Jedi. Not to mention that it was likely an ECHO of the events that had transpired, not a direct line to them. Ahsoka's personal connection to Anakin is probably the in-universe reason for it being so vivid, but it's a stroke of luck she sensed anything was amiss to begin with. Even Yoda didn't sense anything was wrong until the Jedi were already dying.

I would say the meeting near courascant/core worlds was both convenience, but also necessity for Obiwan/Anakin. They just finished their fight on Yerbana, so they need to restock on munitions, artillery/air support lost, supplies, etc. We would assume courascant would be the main area for restocking, or a planet within the core worlds.

Hey bro, not sure if you’re still reading comments, but I had a thought about Obi’s holo meeting w/ Ahsoka. He had his hood on, which leads me to believe he may have already been on Utapau or at least that may be what was implied by the writers since he has his hood on until he drops down to fight Grievous. Also, for the Anakin vs Mace “vision” that Ahsoka has, and the fact that Order 66 came immediately after... I chalked that up to Ahsoka being finally able to decompress after the siege and everything horrible that happened hitting her at once with the order coming right after as sort of a lucky “coincidence” since it put Ahsoka on her guard that something was horribly wrong. “But as one trained in the force knows, true coincidences are rare,” and may just have been the Force working to alert Ahsoka. :) Great vid bro, wish I would have seen this the other night I watched the Siege of Mandalore arc then ROTS after and thought, man I wish there was one complete edit of these together.

Very good video, I love that! I also think of a timeline and we mostly agree with the exceptions of two points. I will try to explain them, please excuse me for the long comment. First point: the Battle of Kashyyyk/Battle of Utapau. The Battle of Kashyyyk starts right after the Council meeting when Obi-Wan is sent to Utapau. The Battle is still ongoing during Order 66. With your timeline, that means that they fought on this same beach for more that 36 hours! And nothing happens on day 3 (Coruscant time) neither on Coruscant nor Mandalore! Here is my proposition. I think that Obi-Wan leaves for Utapau in the morning of day 3 (Coruscant time), and the Battle of Utapau starts on the afternoon of day 3. Order 66 would then takes place on the evening/night of day 3. Hence, day 3 and 4 are merged. Second point: Almec's assassination. With your timeline, two days took place between Maul talking about Sidious to Ahsoka, and Maul sending Saxon to kill Almec. Why Maul would have waited two days during which Almec was held in custody and can reveal Maul's plan to kill Anakin? And why did Ahsoka wait two days to question Almec? Here is my solution. The attack on Sundari takes place on the morning of day 1 (Mandalore time) as in your timeline. The Siege lasts approximately 30 hours. In the afternoon of day 2, Almec is captured while Ahsoka meets Maul for the first time. Then, Obi-Wan contacts Ahsoka (it is the morning of day 3 on Coruscant). I know that we see sunlight on Mandalore. This could be explained if we supposed that the Council meeting takes place very early (around 7am) and Obi-Wan contacts Ahsoka right after (around 8am on Coruscant), and we extend the Coruscant/Mandalore difference to 10 or even 12 hours, so that it is only evening on Mandalore. Then, everything happen as you proposed. The only differences is that day 3 and 4 (Coruscant time) are merged and Almec's capture/Maul-Ahsoka meeting are separted with the attack on Sundari. In this modified timeline, ROTS only happens in 5 days. This might looks short, but I have a "justification" for that. I think about the timeline of the other episodes and I find that Episodes III, IV and VI could happen in 5 days, while Episodes I, II and V could happen in 8 days (for ESB it could be longer because of the Hoth-Bespin journey, but 8 days is still possible). So, this means that there is some kind of a balance in these storylines, with 3 episodes of 5 days and 3 episodes of 8 days. From a classical/theatrical storytelling perspective, this looks very balanced for me, with very short timelines (with the same length) during which many events happen. Well, this last "justification" may be a little far-fetched! Thank you if you read me and please excuse me for my poor english, I am not a native speaker. May the Force be with you.

On the last scene, you can tell that time had already past, not only the Stormtrooper armor but you can notice Vader's suit. In ROTS, Vader's suit has his pauldron over the robe whereas in CW, he has donned the classic robe over the pauldron and the red lenses of his mask. To reinforce this, Filoni said that this took place within the golden age of the Empire. And top it off, Obi-Wan's "within the hour" line might be an exaggeration. Not to mention, remember that The Force dwells within every living being, surrounding, connecting and binds them. The reason Ahsoka felt the disturbance too late within the timeline is because The Force (the light side) is already weakened but just in time to warn her or experience the same thing as Yoda did as many Jedi are killed during Order 66

One also has to keep in mind that this is a mapping of the Galaxy within the Star Wars Legends, 'Galactic Atlas'. The Old Canon and Expanded Universe has different locations for some Star Systems, planets, sectors and regions of the Galaxy, compared to the rebooted New Canon. In Canon it seems that the Unknown Regions and Wild Space are switched around, relative to the Old EU Galaxy Maps. Even then, Hyperspace is and can be faster than the speed of light, it seems that a vessel can be in Hyperspace as long as the plot demands it, so I don't think there is a discrepancy, considering Yerbana could be near the north-west tip/area of the Unknown Regions and Mandalore is located Galactic Eastern side.

6:30 I too initially had issues with this continuity error. I concluded that, due to how close Anakin and Ahsoka were, they must have developed a Force Bond, which would allow them to feel one another when they are either A.) nearby or B.) in great pain. In this case, both are triggered, as Ahsoka is on her way to Coruscant, so she would become increasingly close to her master as the ship got closer and closer to the planet, and Anakin's turn to the Dark Side would have been a painful moment emotionally for her master. I don't think she was feeling the moment as it happened, but rather felt the echo of that moment through the Force. Anakin's turn to the Dark Side is a pivotal moment in the galaxy. It's the moment where the entire galaxy at large changes forever. The moment the Dark Side gains control of the Chosen One. We know that Yoda was able to feel this echo all the way on Kashyyyk, so it stands to reason that Ahsoka would feel it, given how much closer she was to Anakin than Yoda.

I think assuming that the final scene in the final Clone Wars episode, takes place a few weeks or months after the crash is a bit underestimating. All the stormtroopers are wearing armor that resembles the well integrated and finalized armor we see in Rebels, the orignal movies and the Solo movie. Adding to that, they even have established the exact same snowtrooper outfit that we see in Empire Strikes Back. In the Bad Batch series we see the new "stormtrooper armor" that they are integrating which is different from the originals stormtroopers. I know this was made before The Bad Batch series, but we can only assume that these outfits took probably on the good side at least a year before integration, possibly a few years. I think the last scene in Clone Wars also wants to represent that Vader has spent years hunting down the remaining Jedis, while doing so he stumbles upon an old memory. At that moment he remebers exactly how his last ineraction with Ahsoka was and that the lightsabers he gave her was a gift she never would've left behind. He assumed her dead in the crash or atleast exiled. And then he leaves the area in the constant pain he resides in. (Most likely he assumes her dead, as he can be heard in Rebels saying "The apprentice lives", when he feels Ahsoka is alive.)

For the issue of "Being at Coruscant within the hour" or whatever he said, it's resonable that Yerbana is close to a Major hyperspace lane, which goes straight into the Core in once continuous journey, wheras a trip to Mandalore from Yerbana would take several pit stops, and be more awkward to get to. Remember, Hyperspace doesn't work in a straight line. They need to follow Hyperlanes just like cars need to follow roads. As for the Ahsoka sensing Anakin's turn to the dark side, if i remember correctly the force does kind of travel in ripples, of sorts. I remember that being implied somewhere, but I could be totally wrong about that. But I digress. Either way, fantastic video :)

Might I add Tarkin was on Kamino for a long amount of time during The Bad Batch. Yet we see Tarkin on the star destroyer near The Death Star. So that scene where Vader and Palpatine look upon the Death Star wouldn’t have been during the movie, weeks or months after is more accurate

I think the fight sent ripples through the force but wasn't felt until after the four minutes of dialogue with Anakin and Palpatine. Love the idea, but one important thing is the concept of days. Not every day in the galaxy is the same length, which is why they are usually referred to as "rotations". 6:45, the most likely explanation I can think of is the fact that Ahsoka got that force... vision (?) probably 30 minutes to an hour after the scene actually happened, as a warning from the force that something was about to happen. My guess is, Palpatine waited for Anakin’s arrival at the temple assuming that they had to get the clones there, debrief the plan, then march in. Right as Anakin and the 501st started marching in, or when the clones arrived at the temple even, Palpatine issued the order.

How the fleet can be there within the hour? It's hyperspace, it doesn't really follow any physics, or rules, it's a HUGE plot device, laways has been and always will be. Like what is the probability that when Maul pulls the destroyer out of HS that it appears EXACTLY near a habitable moon? Hyperspace cannot be made sense of. and it probably shouldn't. In my headcanon it is an aspect of the force, like it's implied in rebels. Therefore it's basically magic.
@Neonytic
@Neonytic 4 жыл бұрын
No no. Hyoerspace is not magic, it's technically wormholes and parallel dimension fast lanes. I don't remember what's implied in the rebels, but all that force had to do with lightspeed/hyperspace travel is that if you don't have a nav computer calculating the route for you, you'll most likely die, but with the force you can find the right path even with manual control. So unlike the force, hyperspace is just a thing that most people traverse with the help of technology, because it's safer and more convenient, like using a targeting computer to shoot a torpedo into the Death Star exhaust port.

Taking into account the comics. The order 66 scene in the Kanan comics obviously has to happen at the same time as The two main scenes from ROTS and TCW as well as Jaro Tapals death in Fallen Order. As for Cere and Trilla getting captured by the empire they say that it happens sometime after the Order 66 and the Purge. So assuming ROTS order 66 scene happens over the course of 1 day then I'd say Cere and Trillas capture happens at around the time Anakin is speaking to Padme on Mustafar, if not that then maybe when he's killing the Separatist leaders. As for the ending scene of "Victory and Death" I'd say that takes place around 5 years maybe just before the beginning of Fallen Order. I say that because in that scene Vader already has his signature red lightsaber. So that scene has to take place at least after the events of Darth Vader:DLOTS Vol 2. But that's just a rough placement of where I'd say these events happened obviously.
